Additional text formatting within the iOS app
My idea is to add text formatting options to the iOS app, so that text formatting can be changed both in the app itself and between emails.
I’d particularly propose the following features:
- The ability to “centre” and “justify” text alignment
- The ability to use lists and sublists
- The ability to use additional fonts, font sizes and colours
- And possibly the ability to highlight text.
If these features could be implemented, without compromising security, I think it would greatly improve the quality and readability of the emails we can send.
The app has changed drastically since I’ve first started using…

Add fields to contacts
Please add more fields and flexibility to Contacts so data isn't lost when we migrate from Google, Apple, Microsoft, etc. For example:
- Spouse
- Child (and/or Son and Daughter)
- Custom Text Fields with label
- Custom Date Fields with label (I do Baptism, Confirmation, and Ordination dates)2 votes -
Integrate Dangerzone (FOSS malicious file cleaner) into Proton Mail
Dangerzone is developed by the Freedom of the Press Foundation, is free and open source software (FOSS). Implementing it would dramatically reduce Proton Mail users' attack surface as it cleans attachments from potential malware. Dangerzone currently offers the following features:
- Optional OCR
Dangerzone can optionally OCR the safe PDFs it creates, so it will have a text layer again.
- Reduced File Size
Dangerzone compresses the safe PDF to reduce file size.
- Open Docs Safely
After converting, Dangerzone lets you open the safe PDF in the PDF viewer of your choice, which allows you to open PDFs and office docs in…

Do not display icons on hover.
Currently, the email subject list displays the timestamp on the right side. This changes to action icons (mark as read, move to trash, etc.) when the mouse is hovered over the message.
The problem arises when the list is narrow because the divider was dragged to the left or the browser window is not full screen. When the user moves the mouse to a message title to open and read it, the icons suddenly appear over the title, resulting in unintended clicks on actions.
Proposed solution: do not change the UI on hover. Either never hide the icons, or never…

Sync only certain accounts or folders with Proton Mail Bridge
I'm setting up Proton Mail Bridge and it would be nice to be able to decide which emails to sync when using Split Mode addressing. This could be either by address, or by only syncing some folders.
Ideally, this would be decided in a UI similar to the business SMTP access where you generate a token that gives permission for the bridge to read certain emails so that the bridge has no way of increasing it's own permissions.
This would be very helpful for my home lab setup where I would like one email address to be able to respond…

Adjusting Image Size in Signatures
This would be nice, especially in business emails when you need to adjust the image size of a signature when it's too big after attaching.

Preview filter results
I have several sieve filters, and it can be difficult to figure out what's working or not other than to see if the desired result occurred. This processing can be slow, and it can be difficult to distinguish between something not working and something not having happened yet.
I would like the ability to show test what a sieve filter would match.
Gmail's filters are able to easily do this because its search and filter languages are the same. Protonmail's is not. Perhaps they should be unified so we could test filter conditionals based on the sieve query language?

favicon / email sender icon
Favicons / email sender icons for incoming emails are already displayed in the Proton mail web app and iphone app (if the sender has set such an icon, of course), but I haven't found a feature to add such an icon for my outgoing mails (I use a custom domain name). Any possibility to add such a feature?
(please correct me of this is something that has to be set somewhere else, I haven't found any info about that)

Real-time Search
Search your emails in real-time as you type into the search box.
Current behavior: User must type their full search query and press enter to initiate the search and get results back.

A button to archive an email without the attachment
I think it would be very useful to have an option to archive without the attachment. It would be incredibly cumbersome to have to forward myself the email without the attachment and then archive that one in order to keep the record of the chain. It would be great to archive without the attachment, because the attachment takes up too much space on my account, and I always just have the attachments downloaded to my computer anyway, so don't need the digital attachment floating around and taking up space on my account.

Hide notifications
Since Proton is privacy-focused, notifications should be hidden by default. Notifications for new mail should be as simple as "1 new message received," with no sender email or contents displayed until the owner opens an app to read the email. Accessing an email with just a pull-down of notifications is not a great thing for privacy.

Email encryption keys
As a company administrator, I can connect a mailbox to my colleagues. But these mailboxes are not shown in my colleagues' profiles - they don't have a key, they are not active. Need to make such a feature, so that the administrator can generate a key for the new mailbox of his colleagues.

Offer 3 distinct alias types seamlessly within Proton Mail
I pay for the unlimited plan mainly for the SimpleLogin aliases but since using them I've realized there's a benefit to multiple types of aliases and each has its place.
I would love to see Proton Mail offer 3 types of aliases to better compete with Fastmail's aliases and masked emails (they're great!):
Standard alias (or additional email addresses). These are great when you want full control of the address because you may hand it out or it's intended to be used regularly as a receiver and a sender. These are also useful if a service denies the known SimpleLogin…

Mobile Apps: option to store all emails in the account on the device
This would allow me to set a setting in the Mobile App that would tell the app to download all messages and their attachments to my local device.
The mobile device would have every email in the account that is on the server, stored in the app on the local device. This would bring the mobile app to parity with "desktop" email apps that usually do download all emails to the local device
Benefits would include
- being able to search all emails and their contents including attachments locally very fast without having to ask the server to search stuff…19 votes -

create new filter that only apply to inbox and not all existing emails
When I have a filter then I can apply to all existing emails. This is great but when I create a new filter then I would like to only apply to arriving new mails as well as to the so far not categorized/moved mails, so those which are still in INBOX. Would it be possible to have another possibility to apply existing mails in INBOX?

Sending an email from a specific alias could be memorised on each device or based on context
If you have different aliases, the composer always defaults to your account email.
A fantastic feature would be to memorise the alias you use.
1. per device
2. depending on the context
Example: if you have a professional device and a personal device, the app on each device could memorise the "send from" address instead of defaulting to the account email. The "send from" could also simply default to "last used" on a specific device.
Example2: if the context is inside a folder for a specific alias, the app could be smart enough to detect that "new message" action does…2 votes
