  2. Browser extensions remember recent servers / cities

It would be nice if the browser extensions remembered a few of your most recently used servers / cities and made those available as buttons that are shown when you click to open the extension. For example, Nord VPN's app has this feature directly below the blue "quick connect" button.

  3. Add Proxy capabilities to VPN servers

Proton, could you add proxy servers or modify/add your current servers to expose a proxy feature?
I will try to explain what i am trying to do:
I want to have my OpenWRT router connected to one of your secure core servers. After that i would like to be able on my laptop:

    1. See US content: okay, exit to a US proxy
    2. See japanese content: okay, exit to a JP proxy Etc...

This is very flexible and i just need to encrypt the traffic 1x time (to your secure core server) because afaik proxy traffic is mirrored, isn it?

    I…

  4. Circumventing Censorship and Connection Issues

In regions with strict censorship, NAT mode, campus networks, and other specific environments, a proxy is often required to log in and connect; moreover, success largely depends on luck, and speeds are quite unstable.
I have reviewed the latest proxy protocols—such as hy2, xhttp, and anytls—which have strong anti-censorship capabilities. Why not combine the features of these protocols to develop a new protocol that is compatible, stable, and fast? Based on these protocols, a new configuration file and protocol could be developed, allowing users to choose whether to route traffic through this protocol when logging in, sending the traffic to…

  5. iOS Dynamic Island VPN Indicator

On the iPhone Dynamic Island at the top of the screen, it would be useful for proton vpn to utilize this space that Apple allows devs to use for indicators such as showing that the vpn status if connected or not.

Currently you have to swipe down to see if the vpn is active or if you go into the app to check.

Other apps including other vpns use this Dynamic Island as an indicator for a quick glance/stuatus.

  6. opt-in to MTE

Could you add opt-in to MTE for GrapheneOS newer devices please? There is a pull request open in your github:

    https://github.com/ProtonVPN/android-app/pull/168

    More details:

    1. Modify your: app/src/main/AndroidManifest.xml

    <application
    android:name=".ProtonApplicationHilt"
    android:allowBackup="false"
    android:memtagMode="async"
    android:banner="@drawable/tvbanner"
    android:icon="@mipmap/ic
    launcher"
    android:label="@string/app_name"

    2: Add -> android:memtagMode="async"

GrapheneOS will gladly appreciate this. Thank you.

  7. Kill Switch option in Profiles

    Hi ProtonVPN team,

I’d love to see an option added to the profile creation process that lets users set up Kill Switch preferences right from the start. Specifically, it would be great to choose whether the Kill Switch is enabled or disabled for that profile, and also select between the standard and advanced modes.

This would give users more control over how each profile behaves based on their needs. For example, someone might want a profile with the advanced Kill Switch enabled for maximum protection, and another with it off for more flexibility.

Thanks for your time and for continuously…

  9. easier way to report broken/unavailable site

Currently we are asked to fill out the entire form at https://protonvpn.com/support-form
It would be nice (likely to result in more feedback, which presumably helps techs to ID issues and fix them) if it was simpler and quicker to report a site is broken due to using Proton VPN.

  10. After update, icon is not in the taskbar

    On Windows 10.

Since I have about 20 apps that add an icon to the taskbar, I hide many of them.

I want Proton VPN to be in the taskbar so I know if it is connected or not.

When Proton VPN is updated, the icon disappears and I have to go back into the task bar settings to re-enable it.

    Thanks

  11. "Random" option when creating a profile

When creating or editing a Standard VPN Profile, you select the country and then are given the option of "Fastest" or a given city/server. ProtonVPN used to have the option of to select "Random" here as well, ie a random server from within a specific country, but that seems to have been removed. Please add that option back.

  15. Name IP addresses specified for split tunneling

It would be helpful to be able to name or tag IP addresses that are added to the split tunneling list. Names would help users avoid deleting an address by accident, and easily review the sites that have already been specified.

  16. Reconnect option for active profile.

Please add an option to reconnect the active profile. Right now, if I'm using the Fastest Country profile, and I see that my server load is high, I have to disconnect and then connect again, leaving my network open for a second.

I assume that a proper reconnect button would avoid any lapse in VPN coverage.

  17. Support for prime video on KDE plasma

Can add support for streaming website on Linux with KDE plasma dektiop environment.
Is impossible to use protonVPN to watch prime video if using Linux with KDE plasma (tested on prime video with fedora 42 with the latest KDE/QT version 6.3.5)

  18. Support /etc/host like format for custom domain names

Considering Android requires root access to update the /etc/hosts, the usual way to override this is by using a "local VPN" that will intercept requests and resolve based on that local /etc/hosts file.
It would be great to have that extra capability in Proton VPN.

  19. Split tunneling file selection dialog used to remember the last folder you selected, now it defaults to documents

This is very useful and was included in the previous version, now we have to constantly navigate to appdata for re-adding discord since every discord update comes with a new folder and executable

  20. Proton VPN’s kill-switch isn’t Direct-Boot aware on GrapheneOS

On GrapheneOS, the updater runs before first unlock (BFU) to grab security patches, but Proton VPN’s kill-switch isn’t Direct-Boot aware. Enabling it brings up the VPN UI BFU, yet no network ever connects, so updates fail until you unlock the device.

    Repro:

Install Proton VPN on GrapheneOS (e.g. Pixel 6 Pro 2025.05.15)

    Turn on kill-switch

Reboot and stay at lock screen

Watch the BFU updater time out for lack of network

    Impact:
Devices miss critical patches until next unlock, extending exposure to exploits.

    Fix:
    • Mark the VPN service as android:directBootAware="true" in AndroidManifest.xml
    • Move its config/certs into Device-Protected Storage…
