2. Add Shared Folders to Proton Drive Sync

   My wife and I fully utilize the Proton sharing features across the platform. We share files in Proton Drive, but the biggest gap for us is not being able to sync shared folders/files (using Proton Drive Sync for MacOS). The only way we can access the files that have been shared is through the Proton Drive web application.

   Why is it so important that we be able to sync using MacOS?

   Because we heavily utilize the MacOS Spotlight feature to find specific files that contain specific search terms in the body of the document. For reasons we understand, this feature cannot be made available in Proton Drive (the web application or mobile applications). However, we use MacOS Spotlight to deliver what Proton Drive cannot. As such, it is imperative that we be able to sync shared folders to MacOS,

   Why not add lifetime storage purchases like PCloud?

4. Synology NAS Cloud Sync

   I miss the capability to connect my ProtonDrive with my Synology NAS by CloudSync or Hyper Backup. This would be one of the last disadvantages compared to conventional cloud providers

5. Photo album shared link support

   Please add shared link support to Photo albums so albums can be shared with non-Proton users.

   Drive already offers shared link support for files, folders and individual photos, but shared links for albums is a feature gap.

6. Sort-option for folders and albums

   Organizing files and photo's is crucial for data-storage.
   It doesn't feel very complex to implement too.
   So please make it high(er) priority to be able to sort folders and albums in Proton Drive (windows/ios).

7. Support for syncing multiple Proton Drive accounts on same machine

   Having multiple proton accounts, ie personal and business, currently only allows one of those accounts to sync Proton Drive to folders on a single machine. Need to have the ability for Proton Drive to handle different accounts with different syncing structure.

9. Photo albums needs love!

   Photo albums currently have exactly zero options for sort customization. Please help!
   The ability to sort by name or date ascending or descending would be greatly appreciated.
   And album groups would be next level awesomeness. For example you could make a group called "Cats", but in it have different albums for each of your cats.

10. Support for the ODF file format when exporting and importing files to Docs

    If you support and live open source, you should also support ODF and not just Microsoft's docx.

    This makes the ecosystem even larger and allows for more flexible exchange.

11. View or Filter UNCATEGORISED Photos (those NOT in any Album).

    For those of us who like to sort all of our photos into albums as we go along and may periodically wonder "Which ones haven't I filed anywhere yet?", I propose adding a view or filter of UNCATEGORISED Photos -- meaning, those not assigned to any album.

    This could be a filter on the main Photos tab -- or it could be implemented as a "magic" Album that cannot be edited by the user and automatically provides a view of all of the photos that do not exist elsewhere.

12. Lightweight notetaking/todo app

    I’m looking for a lightweight notetaking/todo app like Google Keep. I want to be able to write quick notes and organize lists (groceries, chores, tasks, etc.) in one place. It should stay in sync between my computer and my phone so I can add things anywhere. Markdown support would be great so I can bring my existing notes into it.

13. Google Takeout Import Tool for Proton Drive

    Dear Proton Team,

    I’d like to propose a new feature for Proton Drive: a dedicated Google Takeout Import Tool to streamline the process of importing data from Google Photos exports while correctly respecting the photo/video timeline.

    When importing videos from a Google Photos Takeout archive (photos are mostly ok), Proton Drive currently sets the file’s date based on the filesystem timestamp (e.g., when the .mp4 file was downloaded), rather than using the actual creation date stored in the accompanying .json metadata files.

    This leads to incorrect chronological ordering and loss of accurate historical context—especially for older media and large libraries.

    Introduce a Google Takeout Import Tool in Proton Drive that:

    • Detects and parses .json metadata files included with Google Photos exports
    • Extracts photoTakenTime or creationTime values
    • Applies the correct created timestamp to the corresponding media file (photo or video)

    This ensures accurate and consistent date metadata across all imported files.

    Let’s say I have these two files in my Takeout folder:

    With the json file having the following content:

Without proper handling of these JSON files, the file download date (e.g., July 2, 2025) is used instead—resulting in an inaccurate and cluttered timeline. This mainly affects videos, as photos generally retain metadata better. A dedicated import tool is especially important for users migrating years of content from Google Photos.

14. Delete current photo in the web app

    Add a "Delete" button to the single photo view in the Proton Drive web app.

    If I have several similar photos and want to keep just one of them and delete all others, I need to close the current photo, find it again in the photo list view (which can be a hard task if the photos are very similar) and delete it from there instead of just clicking "Delete" for the specific photo.

15. Non-Pageless Design for Proton Docs

    I really want to switch from Google to Proton for everything, as I am concerned about the surveillance of the modern tech era and would like to be more privacy-driven. Unfortunately, I can’t use Proton Docs for very much, though, because the professional writing features are severely limited. Personally, my priority would be adding Page Breaks to Proton Docs. This is for a few reasons:

    1) It would help students/professionals who have page requirements in their work, or anyone who wants to know how much they’ve written

    2) It would show a clear separation between distinct ideas, chapters, etc.

    3) It would allow for easier printing, since we would be able to see exactly how many pages we have. This is especially helpful for students or others who may need to pay a certain amount per printed page

    4) It would improve legibility and comprehension by breaking up the text. This is a really important accessibility feature for anyone with vision impairments who use screen readers, or whose brains get overwhelmed by lots of text at once (including myself, which is why I space everything out like this)

    5) Bonus: It would break up the computer screen. I have a hard time looking at Proton Docs because it’s just a big, landscape, white screen with zero indicators of where your cursor or text will appear or stop. This is frustrating on an aesthetic level and gives me anxiety for some reason.

    As someone who would regularly spend hours of extra time on their writing assignments making the formatting perfect with clean page breaks for new topics, headers/footers, and spacing, a page break in Proton Docs would allow me to actually use the program. Thank you for your consideration in adding a non-pageless design :).

    Proton Docs need the ability to edit simple, plain text files. Ideally, one should be given the option to open text files as text regardless of extension, as long as they are actual plain text files.

    This will give the option to have and be able to edit a bunch of file types that can make proton drive more useful and versatile. For example, one can have a markdown notes folder in proton drive, or even a text-based database, or simply take some simple notes and sync across devices.

    It does not need to have any complex features or even syntax highlighting/rendering stuff, even though it would be nice to eg be able to have syntax highlighting for markdown or json etc. Just being able to edit one's personal, plain text files on the phone or web apps would already be a huge improvement.

18. Photo deduplication feature

    The Drive does not mind importing photos multiple times, even though being advertised differently.
    Examples:
    - exact same name, created date, but different last modified date => 2 copies.
    - modified photo on iPhone => 2 copies (not 1 photo with two different states)
    - importing the same photo from multiple sources => multiple copies

    This is driving me crazy, as I want to have a single version of a single photo and don't want to waste my time merging etc. The switch to Proton was supposed to be simple.

    Just like you have a section for your Proton photos, you should have a section for your Proton music, because most of us have to listen to our downloaded music from YouTube Music, Dizer and Sportifay. To avoid this and to maintain folder optimization, most of us need Proton music.

20. Tags or labels for files and folders

    I would love to have the ability to better organize my files in Proton Drive by using labels or tags, independently from folders.
    For example, being able to tag a file as both “Project A” and “Budget” would make it much easier to find and group related items across different folders.

    This feature already exists in Proton Mail and works wonderfully for organizing emails by topic or context — it makes daily use much more efficient.
    Having a similar labeling system in Proton Drive would greatly enhance productivity, search, and overall organization, especially for users managing multiple projects or shared files.

    In short, tags would bring flexibility that traditional folder structures can’t provide, while staying true to Proton’s privacy-first philosophy.
