Proton as the one integrated app to rule them all.
Hello friend,
I've been using Proton services for almost a year now with little to no complaints and I'm sitting here in disbelief that there still isn't a way to integrate Proton Drive to connect and backup Mac folders easily.
I wish to exclusively use Proton for my startup, and here are some ideas I had throughout last year.
Before I begin, I want to add that I HATE Google Drive and Gmail with all its oddly vanilla but at the same time awkward features (Gdrive is a complete mess when working with large groups of people and files, it…

Selective syncing of files for Mac/Linux/Windows
Actual syncing of files is so important, that I was considering to upgrade my plan today for getting 500GB storage. But then I realized that ProtonDrive doesn't sync files, and that it works with manual upload/download only, so it wouldn't be useful for me, and so I'll wait rather than upgrade now.
I work with Mac, Linux, and Windows computers, so I need to sync across them.
Also note that I said "selective syncing". It would be highly desirable that if you have 200GB of files and you start working with a computer you didn't sync yet, this doesn't trigger…

Back up files based on comparison of date last modified vs. date last backed up to Proton Drive
Of the many thousands of files on my computer, only some will have changed since the last backup to Proton Drive. The backup would proceed much faster if Proton Drive would compare the date of last PD backup with the date the source file (on my laptop, for example) was last modified. Perhaps Proton could provide this option: f the latter is more recent than the former, then backup the file. Otherwise, skip.

Optional One-way or Two-Way synchronization direction
I want to use ProtonDrive on Windows for backing up my data.
In order not to loose my local data I would suggest additional options to improve the synchronization process.1. One direction sync (send files to Proton servers only) vs two-way sync.
Now local files cannot be deleted when data from the Proton servers is removed (by accident or intentionally)
This also would enable to link the synchronization to an already existing backed up computer on the Proton Servers. In my case I got a duplication of saved data after I re-installed the Proton Drive Windows app.2. Propagate

Windows app: give same options as in web and Android to share files, etc
Currently the desktop Windows app only lists what is on Proton Drive
There is no functionality like being able to share files, etc. These functions are in the web and Android version. Please add to Windows app.1 vote -
Upload from a hyperlink
Ideally we would have remote upload but then I guess that's not possible due to E2EE. So, instead give a web UI feature, where instead of having to manually download and then upload, the Web UI itself downloads the file onto storage and encrypts and uploads it.

Allow swiping between pictures so it is easier to browse
Within a folder or album of pictures, instead of having to tap each picture and then pressing done to move to next photo, allow a user to swipe left or right to be able to see the next photo.

Windows client on mutli-account PC
I am using two different user accounts on my PC (one for work, one for private purposes).
I want to access and sync my private Proton Drive folder while using my work profile. OneDrive supports this, I just create a folder, e.g., c:\OneDrive and enable sync on both user accounts. If I do the same with Proton Drive, it tells me that's not possible because the folder has to be empty to initialize the sync process.
Right now, I would need two separate folders with the same content, wasting disk space and bandwidth because all files would be synced twice.

2023 - No one Uploads files through a website
I don't know who is the head of "bringing new products" to Proton, but in my opinion he/she needs to be fired ...
Now days, whenever someone is working on a PC or MAC, they have a sync cloud folder, into which they drop their files ...
MacOS is even capable of deleting the file when necessary (out of space), but keeps it visible to user so, just by clicking on it, the file gets downloaded again ...Proton Calendar - unusable
Proton Drive - unusable

Have an option to automatically convert PDFs to PDF/A if needed
PDF/A is a standard for PDF archiving: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PDF/A
An option to automatically convert imported PDFs in a specific folder or in the whole drive would be very helpful for long term storage of important documents.1 vote -

Crucial information on reinstalltion is not documented, seriuosly impacting on what is cloud stored. Default setting not appropriate
New features:
* Relevant documentation
* The removal process in the app should NOT have the default set to "Remove Proton Drive settings and previously remembered credentials"
* Removal of a named folder from the list of folders that set to be synced is too simple.I could not find any documentation on this, only found out by multiple tests.
If your plan is to reinstall the Proton Drive app and expect to return to syncing as before with all previous versions intact - Be careful.
If you have to reinstall on the same PC/laptop at program removal time you…

Register Proton Drive mobile app to open local PDF files
The Proton Drive mobile app can open PDF files uploaded within the app. However, it is not registered to open PDF files from within the system (e.g. a PDF file inside the File Manager). Adding this won't be difficult, especially since Proton Drive mobile app can already open these files.

Self-Destructing Files
Self-Destructing Files: I believe there is an opportunity to enhance file security by implementing self-destructing functionality for shared files and files in the deleted files folder. Currently, shared files do not have The ability to self-destruct, and files in the deleted files folder remain indefinitely until manually deleted. Adding a self-destruct timer for both shared files and files in the deleted files folder would provide users with greater control over data privacy and eliminate the need for manual deletion.

Option to ignore sync issues in specific folders
ProtonDrive displays a bunch of sync issues for file locks which may be unessential to sync immediately. This presents a problem for when actual sync issues show up which may go unnoticed. There should be an option to disable sync issues for specific folders, as well as a section to display "ignored" sync issues.
In my case, I have ProtonDrive to sync my Thunderbird profiles. Thunderbird constantly uses these files, so there is a file lock on many of them and ProtonDrive is unable to sync. This is expected functionality however, and the files will sync once Thunderbird is closed.…
