How can we improve Proton Drive?

You've used all your votes and won't be able to post a new idea, but you can still search and comment on existing ideas.

  1. limit number of link accesses or file downloads

    Introduce feature whereby a user can only download file once or allow a link to only be used once so file can be listing on online marketplaces like ebay or trademe - so the link expires after download. Perhaps even a feature where you can assign multiple links on the same file that can be downloaded once only by each user - that is a feature I would upgrade to pro for

  2. Edit photos

    Now that we have the photo backup in Proton Drive, it would be great to have the same edit features for the pictures as Google Photos (crop, ajust luminosity, contrast, etc)

  3. rclone for photos

    Expose the "Photos" location to rclone. Perhaps allow the user to specify a custom folder name to synchronize photos to. Then rclone could be used to simply sync that specific folder.

  4. Use mobile SD card for offline storage

    I have little storage capacity left on the Mobile but plenty on the SD-card. Please make shift possible to store offline data on SD-card instead of the unit's storage.

  5. Export all Drive data

    Please provide a feature like "Take Out" from Google, I constantly make backups of all my data to an offline drive, downloading everything manually is really time consuming.

  6. Hidden app data folders

    I'd like to propose the addition of a feature allowing applications to create a secret, hidden folder within Proton Drive for storing application-specific data. Similar to Google Drive's app data folder, this would enhance security, isolate application data, improve user privacy, and align with industry best practices.

  7. Segmentation - Multiple Drives Per Account

    The ability to completely segment a drive and have multiple drives per account would be a good feature. It would ensure that you could share and/or sync specific drives to a desktop app without the risk of unintended sharing data stored on the other drive(s). Additional drives could be purchased as an add-on or users could elect to split their available account drive capacity across multiple drives.

  8. Open file with a third party app on mobile

    Need to just being able to open a file with a third party application.

    Tap on menu file, choosing "Open with ..." , selecting appropriate application. That's all.

    Now, if I want to open eg. a passwords file I need to download it, opening a file manager app, selecting folder and opening downloaded file.

  9. Backup mobile device

    I think it would be useful
    to make a backup of your android phone or iphone with protondrive
    I have an android phone and it makes an automatic backup on google drive
    and I prefer not to use google apps

  10. Access desktop sync files on mobile app

    I can choose to sync any folders on my Windows PC, but they don't appear anywhere in the mobile app (Android).

  11. Memories feature

    One part of Google Photos that I will miss is the "Memories" feature. Not the creepy cloud-based processing, but just the notification to scroll through some of my old photos.

    It doesn't have to be fancy, and you can play the same cheesy jingle each time!

    (Unless there's a workaround and I can use another app that can safely read local photos while Proton Drive backs them up securely?)

  12. Delete local copy of files when logging out

    I would like it if when i log the protondrive app out (from the pc itself or remotely) to have it delete the local files of protondrive aswell.

    When i have used protondrive for a bit on a computer, after that i have to logout and then manually delete the folder to make sure no-one has access to my files afterwards.

    This is a feature that should atleast have exsisted if you remote logout the app from the browser (like dropbox has incase the device is lost / stolen)

  13. Detailed Disk Space Insight

    I've been exploring the storage options, and while the current interface allows me to see the total storage usage, it doesn't provide insights into what is consuming the disk space.

    I'd like to suggest an enhancement to the storage management feature. It would be immensely helpful if users could view a breakdown of their storage usage, specifically identifying the space consumption of emails and ProtonDrive. Having a detailed overview would empower users to manage their disk space.

  14. Replace file metadata modified date by upload date. Or add column for upload date

    Metadata modified date could be irrelevant when backup to cloud (example: it could be a file with lot of read without modifying it or metadata got deleted and defaulted to some date).
    Either replace or add a column for date uploaded to Proton Drive could be very helpful when sorting through file.

  15. Create folder shortcuts (so you don't have to make a duplicate)

    In Google Drive, you can "Add Shortcut" of an existing folder so you don't have to duplicate folder content (you can enter the same folder from multiple locations). Similarly, macOS allows you to "Make Alias" of a folder, & in Linux you can create symlinks of folders. Would be great to be able to do this in Proton Drive!

  16. Allow to download all data from photo and drive

    Recently I had to remove an address and all of its associated data, the issue is that downloading all of my data was painful, as a lot of the downloads took, a while, and the download often failed. Forcing me to manually select smaller folders, and download those, then merge them.

    As for photos scrolling through all photos and selecting each month, it appears as if there is no "select range" key binding.

    It would be useful in general to have a "take out" feature for both drive and photos.

  17. Desktop App with Web View

    The desktop app only shows the content of "My File", I want to see everything as in the web portal, photos, my files, shared etc

  18. Support folder picking on iOS

    When using another app like Logseq or Obsidian, you cannot use ProtonDrive because the ProtonDrive iOS app does not implement NSExtensionFileProviderSupportsPickingFolders.

  19. Increase Proton paid plans' storage for free

    "Proton Mail Plus" plan's storage space isn't value for money.
    Mail Plus: 15 GB storage, 48 EUR per year.
    Google Drive Free: 15GB, 0 EUR per year.
    Microsoft 365 Basic: 100GB storage, 20 EUR per year.
    Same goes for Proton Unlimited which is too expensive for 500GB space while other cloud providers offer double storage at half the price.

    I appreciate that Proton offers privacy, security and many Mail features. However the storage space it currently offers is unbearably low for the long-term.

  20. File REPLACEMENT functionality

    Please add a button that allows us to replace any file with a newer one.

    Current Problem: After we have generated a link for a file, and we want to upload a newer/updated version of that same file, we have to upload a completely new file and generate a new link. This is problematic if we have already shared that link with folks and don't want to send them piles upon piles of new links for the same or updated file.
