1. Backup on schedule

   Would be great to have an option to backup on schedule. Problem I have now is if a program does a lot of real time changes in a folder, then Proton Drive will go rampant with trying to save these changes to the cloud and often bug out because the files are in use etc.

5. Set External Drive as main location

   My mac is the lowest spec but because of the speed of M processors it runs all my software for work better than any PC i've ever had. The cost of having a massive storage space inside my Mac is the reason I cannot use Proton Drive at the moment. I have 1TB external SSD which is my Dropbox location, if I could set Proton Drive to my external SSD as the main folder my life would instantly be better. I actually love how Proton Drive functions and am desperate to get out of the chaotic Dropbox ecosystem. Please explore an option to do this with Drive. It's extremely important that a large amount of files are locally accessible but also backed up on the fly for my work. I trust Proton more than any other service out there. Keep up the good work :]

6. Powerpoint editing and preview

   I have transferred across to Proton because of the privacy features. I'm struggling with the lack of preview for Powerpoint files. I use them all the time for work. My last drive provider had the ability to edit these files online. Please add this feature as a matter of urgency

7. Ability to Prioritize Sync

   As a user of Proton Drive, I would like to prioritize files and folders above other file syncs. There are certain files that are critical to be updated as soon as possible over other sync files. For example, you have added a bunch of photos to proton drive and they are taking hours to be added to proton Drive Cloud. Suddenly you update a critical file. It would be convenient to prioritize that file above the photos so it get updated as soon as possible instead of behind all the photos.at present there is no way to prioritize sync updates. A low, medium and high is good enough or just a high priority would work.

   It would be great to have an optional feature that generates short, easy-to-share links for shared folders and files. For example: pm.me/share/<share_id>. This would make sharing simpler across emails, chats, and mobile devices, while still keeping the full URL available for those who prefer it.

9. Proton Sheets: allow relative references in data validation functions, or allow fns like INDIRECT() and ROW() in data validation context

   I'm trying to find a way to create dynamic dependent dropdowns in Proton Sheets WITHOUT creating individual data validation rules per row. It could be that I simply haven't found solutions that are already possible with existing features. I'm finding that the usual solutions from other spreadsheet software don't work in Proton due to peculiarities of how data validation is handled. It seems like cell references in validation functions are always absolute, which makes it hard to set up validation that can simply be dragged down a column when the validation is dependent on a value in another column but same row. ROW() and INDIRECT() also don't work as expected within data validation functions -- it's as though they're evaluated in a separate context, so they return nothing, or return 0. If there's already a good way to solve the dependent dropdowns problem without needing a validation rule for every single row, it would be great if it could be added to the documentation.

10. Improve preview speed of document

    I find that Proton Drive is the best in the market in my preference. But I'm using it to deliver project to my client. The slow speed to preview, especially video and photos, makes it almost impossible to make my client happy.

    Please do something, we need Proton.

11. File history should show previous file names after renaming

    When I open file history, I can’t see previous file names.

    For example: yesterday a file was named “Document X”. Today I accidentally renamed it to “Document Y”. In file history, this rename is not reflected at all — I only see the current name.

    This is a serious problem. I accidentally mixed up documents, edited one, then renamed it. Now I can’t tell which part of a case this file originally belonged to, because the old name is completely lost in history.

    Please include previous file names in file history. Rename events are just as important as content changes, especially when working with many similar documents.

12. Be able to read EML files within proton drive

    Not sure if this is be asked for but when I save EML files to my drive either my files or shared folder on my pc I can read them when I try to open like a pdf. This would be very time saving. Currently on android you have to download onto your phone then either upload online to a converter like apose which I'm against due to privacy issue or one of very few apps (only 2 I can find) are available so you have to install this to the read which again not keen due to privacy. Yes I can go into my computer then open but again have to use outlook which I've dumped or import to thunderbird or as I have done yet another free software for windows simple reader. A facility within would be very important and to me critical for privacy

13. resuming aborted downloads/uploads

    Due to instable wifi, it happens that my connection breaks when doing some bigger transfers. That's why I also voted for the speed limit cap elsewhere in this community. When my connection breaks, transfers are aborted and started all over again, instead of resuming after the connection is established again. Because of this, I cannot tranfer files of some gigabytes. I hope you can make Proton Drive more mature by implementing a kind of download manager, pausing and resuming transfers, instead of restarting complete files. Thanks you.

    Hum... I can't edit nor delete my first post about that, so I try republishing it... 🤔

    This is a repost (deleted my former suggestion) as suggested by another user, to make it more clear, thank you. ❤️
    I'm a curious, sometimes geek with nerd outbursts, user exploring and using newest technologies since 40 years.

    Unfortunately, I still see very old concepts and ideas still being implemented today by default, not because they're good, but because we're suffering from operational blindness.

    🌏 Context
    Managing files for users has not changed since 40 years: You work on a file and at some point you need to save it somewhere. You can chose drive C, D, ... then folder and subfolder A, B, C or library Documents, Music, Pictures, Photos, Videos and, oh gosh, this file should go into folder G and at the same time into the Documents library... Aaawww... 😵‍💫

    And there begins of all our data mess.

    💡 Idea
    Users shouldn't be bothered anymore to have to think of where they store their data (once of course they consciously selected a trustworthy service provider like Proton 😜), only how they can find them again. This would be consistent with ProtonMail's labels/views philosophy. 👍🏼

    They should only be offered the possibility to tag/label their files (manually, AI-automatically?) in order to find them easily later with views (flexible, not hard coded like a distinct Photo library for instance 😉).

    ✅ Reflection points
    I'd like ProtonDrive to consider:

    • merging all types of documents (office, audio, video, etc) into a single environment (as opposed to the Documents/Photos distinction)
    • allowing the user to chose to expose these documents to the OS (for instance I can listen to music with my favorite 3rd party application instead of putting lots of effort for additional ProtonXXX apps)
    • providing labels/tags management (add, remove, batch rename)
    • integrate these labels/tags within the files metadata without changing their modification date (as opposed to libraries systems strongly linked to products and service providers)
    • providing views management (add, remove, rename) based on the aforementioned labels/tags/keywords
    • providing a functionality to generate a folder structure based on views for portability (today I'm happy with Proton, tomorrow maybe not anymore, and I wouldn't want a migration nightmare with the risk of loosing years of organization)

    Thank you for considering shaping a futuristic UX with an open and portable file system management post-GAFAM and service provider independent! 😍

16. Show upload/download status in tray icon tooltip and left click option

    When hovering over the tray icon, it would be really useful to show status information like whether something is uploading or downloading, current speed, how much is completed, and how much is left.

    There’s a lot of useful info that could live there instead of the tray icon being mostly passive. This would make background activity much more transparent and actually justify having the tray icon at all.

    It would be great if the tray icon had a meaningful left-click action.

    For example, in OneDrive, left-click opens a small window showing recent uploads and current sync activity. In Proton apps, left-click on the tray icon does nothing, which feels unfinished and not very user-friendly.

    A left-click could open:
    recent uploads/downloads,
    current sync status,
    or a compact activity panel.

    Right now the tray icon exists, but interacting with it doesn’t provide any value.

20. Preserve albums from device

    I backup my photos from my phone onto Proton Drive. However, the albums that the photos are in on my phone are not preserved on Proton Drive. Instead, they are just dumped into one place. This, unfortunately, makes the photos pretty much unusable, because they are a nightmare to look through all mixed up.

    I already have placed my photos into sensible albums on my phone. I should not have to redo that on Proton Drive. Without this feature, I have to use another service for photo backups.
