3. Slow load time, Checkboxes, iPad functionality

   Several changes to Docs.

   1. Too slow to load
   2. Checkboxes should be checkable when in view mode
   3. One tap to position cursor on iPad, currently requires 2 and often loses focus

4. First-class support for XLSX files in

   CURRENT SITUATION
   Currently, when opening an Excel file from Proton Drive in Proton Sheets, a conversion takes place that makes a copy of the file with filetype 'application/vnd.proton.sheet'.
   That means you now have two different versions of the same file, one of which can only be edited in Proton Sheets and one of which can be used in any other spreadsheet application.

   SUGGESTION
   I am aware that Proton Sheets can be exported back to the XLSX format, but I want to request first-class support for XLSX files without conversion. Reasons include:
   - Being able to edit my XLSX files locally using the software of my choice (especially relevant when using Proton Drive sync).
   - Also being able to edit my XLSX files from Proton Drive when pulling them local is inconvenient (e.g. on a shared computer) without generating semi-duplicate files.
   - Reducing the chance of malformatted XLSX files. In theory, conversion shouldn't break formulas, formatting, etc. In practice, this is never without flaws (in my experience).
   - Preventing vendor lock-in. Google Sheets has their own proprietary fileformat, but they also support editing XLSX files without conversion, which ensures that (if you use that) you can copy-paste the contents of your drive to anywhere else, and not lose anything.
   - Promoting & keeping in line with industry standards. XLSX is the de-facto standard for spreadsheets. ODS exists, but is less commonly used (though first-class support for that would also be great).

5. Prevent corruption when cutting and pasting proton sheets and docs using windows explorer

   If you cut and paste a proton sheet or proton doc using windows explorer, there is a significant risk the file will be corrupted and not open, and that you will lose the version history. Current guidance is to ONLY use the 'Move to folder' button on the web interface. We need to correct this so that Windows Explorer can be used to move proton sheets and proton docs using the cut and paste functions.

6. Docs: Preserve RTF / HTML formatting on paste or load

   It would be nice if, when pasting or loading formatted (italic, bold, etc.) text into the Docs editor, the formatting was preserved.

   As a writer/editor I'd like to use Proton Drive to share edited manuscript copy with clients, but dropping the formatting makes this impossible currently for anything chapter-length or longer—I can't hunt down every single word my client has chosen to inadvisably bold. :)

   This is related to the request for Markdown, perhaps, but often I am working with docs prepared in a word processor, so rtf and html formatting on paste would be nice too.

7. filesystem upload should create intermediate parent folders

   proton-drive filesystem upload -c replace -f replace -d merge -t true /home/me/myfile /my-files/home/me/ should create the directory /my-files/home and /my-files/home/me if they don't already exist.

9. Allow for copying (a selection of) files from one album view to: another album or a new album

   I want to be able to make an album with all the pictures of one broad category say: Animals,
   I make an album named: Animals. And i select and add all the pictures of animals to that Album.

   Now i want to make an album named: Cats.

   Then i want to be able to navigate to the: "Animals" Album and select from there all the pictures of cats.
   That makes it so i wont have to scroll so much trough my whole library on desktop while images load slow.
   I then already have a subcollection to choose from.

11. PDF annotation and SPen compatibility for Samsung tablets

    PDF annotation is possible via Windows but not on my Samsung tablet. SPen compatibility and Android functionality would allow Proton Drive to exist across ecosystems more effectively.

12. Landscape mode for iOS

    In iOS, there's no landscape mode. Thus in portrait mode, if you use files with long filenames you can't see the full name and it's hard to select the correct file. That makes me Drive unusable in iOS.

    I find Shared Drives in Google Workspace very useful. It's very easy to navigate, search and find information within the organisation for every team member (not only for the admin or user who created the file or folder). It would be nice to have a feature in Proton Business

    Add a shortcut available on Excel and Google Sheets, where Ctrl+Semicolon allows for the date format to be inputted in the format that the user has already selected for that cell.

15. More view options for shared folders with images

    I really need more options on how to view images in a shared folder. I work as a real-estate photographer and deliver images through Proton Drive. The brokers are complaining about the lack of preview and I really need a grid-view and carousel or other options for previewing files. I will have to terminate the use of Proton if there is no option very soon!

17. Proton Drive for Windows Share Function

    With Proton Drive for Windows, I can't figure out a way to share a file or folder (invite another Proton user or create a public share link). The share button in the context menu uses Windows' native file sharing, which is not what I'm looking for. My workaround for the time being has been to open up the Proton Drive web interface, navigate to the file/folder in question, and use the share modal. Please let me know if I'm missing something. Thanks!

    iOS currently has a global “Keep Originals” setting, but many users avoid enabling it because they’re worried it will break compatibility with messaging apps, Windows users, or older devices. This creates a psychological barrier — people don’t want to change a global setting that affects every app on their phone.

    Because of this, cloud‑storage apps like Proton Drive end up receiving converted JPEGs instead of the original HEIC files, even when users think they’re backing up originals.

    A real example:
    A family member sent me a photo that was 1.1 MB in HEIC, but iOS converted it to a 5.3 MB JPEG before upload. The file became five times larger while losing HDR, depth, color information, and overall quality. This is exactly the kind of silent conversion that makes users think Proton Drive is degrading quality, when it’s actually iOS doing the conversion.

    A per‑app setting would solve this completely.

    Proposed per‑app options:

    Always upload originals
    The app receives the full‑quality HEIC/PNG/HDR file with no conversion.
    Convert for compatibility
    iOS provides a JPEG/SDR version when needed for cross‑platform use.
    Ask every time
    iOS prompts the user each time the app uploads a photo, letting them choose Original or Compatible.

    Why this matters

    Users avoid the global setting because they fear breaking other apps.
    Cloud‑storage apps like Proton Drive need originals for proper backups.
    This mirrors Apple’s existing per‑app permission model (Location, Camera, Photos).
    Only apps that actually upload photos would appear in the list, keeping the UI clean.
    It prevents silent HEIC → JPEG conversions that increase file size and reduce quality.
    It gives Proton Drive users confidence that their backups are truly original quality.

    Modern Android phones fully support HEIC and HEVC, so cloud services like Proton Drive do not need JPEG conversions. The current iOS behavior is outdated and unnecessary.”

    Impact

    This feature would dramatically improve the reliability of photo backups across the iOS ecosystem and would help Proton Drive compete directly with iCloud Photos by ensuring users always get true originals when they want them.

20. Live Picture Download

    Support the ability to download live photos that are stored in proton drive as live photos. Currently you can save live photos and see them live in proton drive. But if you download the live photo to your phone it doesn't save as a live photo.
