File management paradigm change
Hum... I can't edit nor delete my first post about that, so I try republishing it... 🤔
♻️ File management paradigm change
This is a repost (deleted my former suggestion) as suggested by another user, to make it more clear, thank you. ❤️
I'm a curious, sometimes geek with nerd outbursts, user exploring and using newest technologies since 40 years.Unfortunately, I still see very old concepts and ideas still being implemented today by default, not because they're good, but because we're suffering from operational blindness.
🌏 Context
Managing files for users has not changed since 40 years: You work on a file and at some point you need to save it somewhere. You can chose drive C, D, ... then folder and subfolder A, B, C or library Documents, Music, Pictures, Photos, Videos and, oh gosh, this file should go into folder G and at the same time into the Documents library... Aaawww... 😵💫And there begins of all our data mess.
💡 Idea
Users shouldn't be bothered anymore to have to think of where they store their data (once of course they consciously selected a trustworthy service provider like Proton 😜), only how they can find them again. This would be consistent with ProtonMail's labels/views philosophy. 👍🏼They should only be offered the possibility to tag/label their files (manually, AI-automatically?) in order to find them easily later with views (flexible, not hard coded like a distinct Photo library for instance 😉).
✅ Reflection points
I'd like ProtonDrive to consider:- merging all types of documents (office, audio, video, etc) into a single environment (as opposed to the Documents/Photos distinction)
- allowing the user to chose to expose these documents to the OS (for instance I can listen to music with my favorite 3rd party application instead of putting lots of effort for additional ProtonXXX apps)
- providing labels/tags management (add, remove, batch rename)
- integrate these labels/tags within the files metadata without changing their modification date (as opposed to libraries systems strongly linked to products and service providers)
- providing views management (add, remove, rename) based on the aforementioned labels/tags/keywords
- providing a functionality to generate a folder structure based on views for portability (today I'm happy with Proton, tomorrow maybe not anymore, and I wouldn't want a migration nightmare with the risk of loosing years of organization)
Thank you for considering shaping a futuristic UX with an open and portable file system management post-GAFAM and service provider independent! 😍

Shortcut to move a bullet point up or down in Proton Docs
It would be nice to have a shortcut to move a bullet point up or down in Proton Docs. Similarly to the shortcuts in WPS Office on macOS. With Options+Shift+Up Arrow you can move a bullet point up and with Options+Shift+Down Arrow you can move a bullet point down. I think there is a similar shortcut in Microsoft Word.

Fix Underline Bug
If you have a sentence such as: "This is a sentence", and you mark the sentence with an underline, the line under the bolded text will be slightly above the rest of the line, e.g., the underline will not be even.

Viewing photos - Display icons for DELETE, favorites, info, map...
When viewing photos and videos, display icons for delete, favorites, info, map, etc. at the bottom, in the mode where the file name is displayed at the top.

Proton docs - allow cropping of images within documents
Cropping and control image alignment with text would be extremely useful.

Notes and Memo related
I think there should be a feature for text notes and memo in drive or seperate app. It would be very helpful, if it existed.

The Proton Drive video and music player needs to be replaced.
Videos and music should play directly without caching, like in Google Drive.

Expand Proton Drive Search to Include Trash, PCs, and Mobile Devices
As a Visionary Plan user, I use Proton Drive a lot for storing and managing my files. It would be really helpful if the search feature could be expanded to include:
Trash Folder: Right now, finding deleted files in the Trash is hard because there's no search. Adding search here would make it much easier to recover lost files quickly.
Files on My PCs and Mobile Devices: Currently, search only works for files inside Proton Drive. If it could also search files on my linked devices, it would save me a lot of time and make managing my files much smoother.
This change would make Proton Drive even better and more convenient, especially for users who handle lots of files across different devices. Thanks for considering this idea! Why This Matters:
- Efficiency: Easily find and recover files without having to scroll through everything manually.
- Productivity: Manage files across all your devices in one place.
- Better Experience: Makes Proton Drive more user-friendly and helpful.
Please vote for this suggestion if you think it's a good idea too!

Sheets: Icon Set Conditional Formatting
In Excel, there is an option to use icons for conditional formatting: either beside the cell data or instead of the cell data. For example, I can have a row where the cell values are the difference between numbers in two other cells, and then instead of displaying that number, I can display one of three icons based on where that difference number is in a range. It's a great feature for dashboards.
I would be willing to settle for better color range formatting as a stop-gap. It seems unpredictable right now.

HTML preview
I would like to see an actual page of the HTML file I have on my disk instead of code when opening it in a browser, and nothing when opening it from an Android app.

proton sheets
The autofill feature for dates doesn't work in portuguese. If I try to use it for days of the week in english, it works fine, but when trying in portuguese, it just copies the days of the week, instead of continuing to list them.

Notion-Like Document Editor (including databases)
Situation:
Docs an Sheets are awesome, but they are quite slow and fail to capture memo-like or dynamic-structured content. Both are basically printing formats.
Problems (some):
- UI is slow in general. Loading time is very slow.
- Sheets doesn't support views of a sheet. So you always have to look at all the data (yes, there are clumsy workarounds).
- Sheets handles linebreaks, text overflow, column datatypes not well (because it's not supposed to, I think)
- Docs always shows allSuggestion:
- Provide a document (format) for a Notion-like editor.
- Support databases like notion does (not inter-document databases)Situation:

Automatic Substitute Feature
A feature where we can manually add substitutions. For example, I like to use em dashes in my writing (—) but it's difficult to do on my regular keyboard, so I used the substitute feature in the other docs I use to automatically substitute "--" to "—" and use it with other things, too, like adding accented letters automatically onto names (turning eon to éon for example). I know there are keyboards out there that can do it, but I've never been able to find one that works conveniently enough for my writing, and this is a relatively minor but SUPER helpful feature.

make Proton Photos reachable from Mac file browser (Finder)
It's already possible to access to the files stored in the area "My files" in the Proton Drive from the Mac file browser (finder), however the photos stored in "Photos" are not reachable from the Finder, therefore it's not possible to work on the images with an editor software without having to download the file from the drive first.

Sheets - inputing parameters for formula with keyboard resets previous formula
I input the formula, in my example it is: '=VLOOKUP('
Then, with keyboard, I select a cell with proper key, as the syntax of the formula requires.
Then I input ";" and start selecting the cells for the second parameter.
However, when I do this, my next selection replaces the previous parameter instead of adding the second one. It makes keyboard-centric workflow simply impossible.

Colab
I observed that some universities across Europe relays only on Google Colab to make, test, synch, share code during their classrooms.
The idea is to have some kind of interface, similar to what google does, to be able to develop code, test it's functionalities, store sources at drive (text based files), and even better if Lumo can help developing code as Gemini does.
Having such a tool can be a good argument to induce EU agents to switch from their current US based big techs providers, to a secure development platform, thinking in necessary privacy for research and investigation topics.
For regular users or regular students, can be a good to experiment with Python for instance, not relying on Google for such a proposes.
