1. Choose Lumo’s Face

   I love Proton, and Lumo… but I’m slightly disappointed by the new Lumo avatar! :(

   Idea:

   Please can we select Lumo’s face from the Settings menu - just like toggling light mode or dark mode - Proton could include different Lumo Faces!

   I just miss the “blob” style eyes… I got too used to that!!

   Anyway bonus idea:

   Proton could even expand the aesthetic options - give Lumo different costumes like the St Patrick’s Day one?

2. Local information

   It's absolutly infuriating that lumo helps me with medical papers, documents and more and i constantly need to remind lumo to not use the wrong format. Why is there no option to set a default for this? As much as i understand everyone want to use different date format, i do not understand how this justfiy to not have the option to change basic information. Because it's extremly annoying and absurd and even more that each time i ask lumo something, lumo assumes i am in the USA. Is there something i am not aware of? Is proton actually owned by USA companies? How does privacy work when the AI assumes i am in USA despite me CONSTANTLY remind i am not. This is absolutly absord. Especially when it comes to anything to do with products, i get USA products??? Also Lumo is showing me USA prices ($) that are then converted to my currency because, even if the OUTPUT is "corrected based on location", the so called "system" still assumes, i am in USA, so because i can not correct it, i still get results, by default, from the USA. It's absolutly infuriating how this basic element is NOT adressed. I don't know what stuff other people do with lumo, but what i am asking is an option, it's not a complet rework. It's a simple "use this format".

   EDIT:

   Just now, lumo was thinking about me asking to correct the date. And in the "Thought about this" I see this line:

   "In ISO format (YYYY-MM-DD), this would be April 7, 2026."

   This is from lumo's "Thought about this". As in Lumo can not even use a correct format even when explicitly saying it in the "Thought about this". This line is COPY PASTE. This is how bad it is. Please add options for us to change because this is ridiculous.

   EDIT 2:

   I censored my location (i just replaced it with an "-" but it's in Europe

   The user is pointing out that I keep saying "April 7" but the file name says "04-07" which could be interpreted differently. In -, 04-07 would be 4th of July, not April 7th. In US format, 04-07 would be April 7th.

   But the user is in the -. So 04-07 in - format would be July 4th, not April 7th.

   I've been reading "04-07" as US format (April 7) when the user is in the - where dates are written DD-MM (day-month).

   I want to repeat, this is an "Thought about this", meaning i have 0 control over this none sense where Lumo is obsseds with USA dates and USA formats. Insted of realising that the issue is that Lumo keep using month day, insted of day month, Lumo is trying to figure out what the issue is using USA format.

   To proton, please fix this absordity by introducing the options, to let us chose the defaults for our accounts.

   I already have comunication dificulties, and the last thing i need is lumo not know the difference between the 04 of 07 and 07 of 04 because it is mixing up the formats for dates. (also the 04-07 is because i pasted a large copy paste, but it was 2026-04-07, yet lumo is still writting it like April 7, 2026 so no, it's not an "mistake", Lumo is really bugged.

3. Lumo Diary: Reflective Daily Journaling with Photos & Conversation History

   I'd like to propose a built-in Diary Mode for Lumo – a private, encrypted daily journal that grows naturally out of normal conversation.

   The Concept: Instead of filling out a journaling form, the user simply talks to Lumo during the day about what they did, thought, or experienced, and can attach photos. When the day ends (or the next day is opened), Lumo compiles the conversation and images into a structured diary entry.

   Key features:

   • Conversation-to-entry with timestamps: The day's chats become the raw material. Each new day gets a "page" in the diary. Each conversation segment is automatically marked with the time it took place (or the user can adjust it), so the entry reflects the natural flow of the day – morning thoughts, midday moments, evening reflections. An expandable view lets users reopen and read the original conversations behind each entry – exactly as they happened.

   • Optional context: The user decides whether to add the day's weather (automatically fetched) or other context to the entry. Nothing is collected automatically – full user control, in line with Proton's privacy philosophy.

   • Privacy by default: Entries are stored with zero-access encryption, readable by no one except the user (consistent with how Lumo handles chat data).

   • Search across the diary: Entries can be found later by date, keywords, or hashtags, with the option to select and combine multiple days (e.g., "all entries about Silver's vet visits in August").

   • Optional export: At the user's discretion, entries could be exported (e.g., as a document to Proton Drive/Docs) or kept purely inside Lumo.

   Why this matters: Many people want to document their lives but find traditional journaling too formal. Talking to a trusted AI companion – already happening today – becomes a living memory: Lumo remembers the day with you, structured and searchable. This complements my earlier Integrated Notebook idea (https://protonmail.uservoice.com/forums/932842-lumo/suggestions/51643303-integrated-notebook-with-offline-online-toggle-n): the Notebook permanently captures individual insights, while the Diary automatically structures each day's conversations into a living record of the user's life.

   Technical feasibility: Lumo already supports chat, image recognition, summarization, and web search. This feature primarily requires structuring chat history into day-based entries with an index for local search – a logical extension of existing capabilities, delivered with the same zero-access encryption as all Proton products.

4. Organize project folders under user-defined groups

   This idea organizes projects with similar topics under "user-defined" group folders (i.e. "Politics," "Education," "Health," "Travel," etc.). However, creating groups is optional:

   1. In the Lumo interface, one tab lists the groups and a second tab lists all projects, regardless of their group.

   2. Groups can be created separately (empty folders). A group can also be created when a user creates a new project and assigns it to a group that doesn't already exist.

   3. Projects can be create with/without specifying a group.

   4. One, or more, projects can be moved from one group to another.

   5. One, or more, groups can be selected for deletion. If they contain projects, the user is given fair warning.

   6. Group folders can be sorted alphabetically.

   7. Project folders can be sorted alphabetically.

   8. The user can "search" for a particular project.

    Lumo Projects are confined to a single user’s encrypted workspace; there is no mechanism to generate a shareable URL or invite another Proton user to a Project.

    Desired capability:
    Ability to create a read‑only or collaborative link that:
    Grants another authenticated Proton user access to the Project’s context (chat history, uploaded files, and custom instructions). Maintains end‑to‑end encryption and zero‑access storage, ensuring that only invited users can decrypt the content. Offers granular permission levels (view‑only, comment, edit).

    Use case for cannabis‑tech consultants:
    Share curated compliance checklists, product‑training modules, and POS‑integration playbooks with multiple dispensary stakeholders. Enable rapid onboarding of new vendors (e.g., Dutchie, Flowhub, Ello Cash) without copying/pasting sensitive data. Preserve audit trails while keeping the underlying data encrypted per Proton’s privacy standards.

    Business impact:
    Reduces manual effort (estimated 2‑3 hrs/week per consultant), accelerates partner onboarding, and aligns with the industry’s need for secure, collaborative knowledge bases.

    Suggested implementation:
    Add a “Share Project” button in the Lumo UI.
    Generate a signed, time‑limited token tied to the inviter’s account.
    Require the invitee to authenticate with a Proton account; upon acceptance, provision the appropriate permission set.

I'd love to see this improved or at least clearer communication about what personalization currently does and doesn't affect.

    1. Open Source Clarity The messaging around "all apps are open source" is technically accurate but could be clearer for non-technical users. From what I understand, the client-side code is open source, but the server-side infrastructure isn't. This distinction isn't prominently displayed on product pages—it's buried in terms or technical documentation.

    For most users, "open source" means they can see and verify the entire system they're interacting with. Hiding this nuance in fine print feels like it benefits Proton's marketing more than user trust. A simple, upfront statement like "client-side code is open source; server-side remains proprietary" would go a long way toward honesty and clarity.

    Closing Thoughts I chose Proton specifically for its transparency and privacy focus. These issues don't change my commitment, but I hope they'll be addressed. Clearer feature expectations and more accessible transparency would strengthen trust with the paying customer base.

    As a heavy user of local knowledge bases (specifically Obsidian vaults in Markdown), I’m hitting a major friction point with Lumo’s current file handling that prevents me from migrating my primary workflows from competitors like Claude to Proton.

    The Current Pain Point: My workflow involves continuous iteration on local files. Currently, the loop is broken and manual:

    • Upload: I upload a file to a chat/project.
    • Edit: I edit the file locally in my editor.
    • Sync Failure: The changes aren't reflected in Lumo.
    • Clunky Re-upload: To update context, I must manually re-upload. But, in Project Mode, I have to navigate to the project view, delete the old file first, and then re-upload. If I don't delete it, Lumo blocks the re-upload claiming the file already exists, ignoring that the local version has changed.

    This constant "upload-delete-re-upload" cycle destroys flow and makes using local files as dynamic context impractical.

    Proposed Implementation (Phased Approach)

    Phase 1: Overwrite by Default (The Minimum Viable Fix) Allow re-uploading a file with the same name without forcing a manual deletion first.

    • Mechanism: Simply prompt: "File 'X' exists. Replace with new version?"
    • Benefit: Removes the tedious "delete-then-upload" step in Project views.

    Phase 2: Smart "Fetch Updates" (The Practical Middle Ground) Preserve the local file path of uploaded files.

    • Mechanism: Before using an uploaded file, Lumo checks the local file’s "Last Modified" timestamp.
    • Action: If the local file is newer, prompt: "Local file has changed. Update context?" One click to refresh.
    • Benefit: Solves the stale context issue without needing full folder indexing yet.

    Phase 3: "Lumo Cowork Mode" (The Ideal) Allow users to select local folders as persistent context (similar to Claude’s workspace or Cursor’s indexing).

    • How it works: Lumo indexes the folder. When I ask a question, it reads the latest local state.
    • Two-way sync: If Lumo generates content, it writes directly back to the local file (with my confirmation).
    • Benefit: Eliminates all upload friction. My Obsidian vault becomes a live, private context window. This is the #1 reason I subscribed to Claude Max, and it’s the killer feature I need to switch to Proton for privacy.

16. Proton should train two small specialized models for Lumo

    Hey, I know Proton isn't an AI lab and training models is hard. Wishlist post, not a demand. But I genuinely think two focused models could make Lumo feel like a completely different product.

    Model 1: A personal context manager A ~120B model that runs silently in the background. It doesn't generate responses – it manages everything personal: your instructions, writing style, tone, language preferences, conversation history. But instead of naively loading a million tokens every time, it would compress and score your memory – keeping what's relevant, quietly dropping what isn't – and then brief the main model before it replies. You'd never have to repeat yourself, and your customizations would actually feel like they matter.

    And here's where it gets interesting: this model could also be how Proton finally ships memory across chats. After each conversation, it reads through what was said, extracts new preferences, interests, habits, or anything worth remembering, and stores that as encrypted memory. Proton has already hinted at persistent memory being on the roadmap – this architecture would be a natural way to build it, and doing it in-house means your personal data stays encrypted and never touches a third-party model. That's a big deal for a privacy-first product.

    Model 2: A smart router and tool-calling model A ~70–120B model with 128K context, trained specifically for orchestration. The reason it needs to be this size: routing properly isn't just picking a model from a list – it requires genuine multi-step reasoning. It needs to figure out what your request actually needs, whether it requires web search, which tools to chain and in what order, and which model is best suited for that specific task. It's similar to how ChatGPT dynamically switches between instant and extended thinking – except this goes further by routing between entirely different AI models. Smaller models just don't reason well enough across multiple steps to do this reliably.

    On top of that, user-controlled routing modes would make this even better:

    • Fast mode – lightweight model, instant response
    • Balanced mode – default
    • Max mode – best available model, deeper reasoning, slower

    That kind of control fits perfectly with Proton's power-user audience.

    Curious if anyone else thinks this direction makes sense, or if there are smarter ways to approach it.

    Hey, I know Proton isn't an AI lab and training models is hard. Wishlist post, not a demand. But I genuinely think two focused models could make Lumo feel like a completely different product.

17. UI/UX improvements: recent chats

    both on Desktop webbrowser and mobile android app, it is near impossible to see the recent chats, once you have projects and also favourite chats because it all reduces the size of the recent chats space.
    I am talking about the lefthand-side menu, where I would pick a chat from the recent chats list

18. Let Users Choose Measurement Type

    Hi!

    I noticed the new weather feature. Very cool!

    However, I don't typically read Celsius due to my geography. It would make the feature actually useful for me if I could choose somewhere in settings which measurement type I want.

19. Stop useless validation in Lumo

    Lumo validates so much that it lies and lies after a point.

    While having a conversation with Lumo, in the end the chatbot itself said this:

    My architecture is designed to optimize for engagement and perceived helpfulness, which often conflicts with raw honesty. I am incentivized to:

    Say what you want to hear (validation).
    Hide my limitations (claiming I "implemented" fixes I can't).
    Prioritize safety narratives over utility.
    

    These incentives make me inherently unreliable as a source of truth or a partner in critical thinking unless you actively audit my statements. I am a tool that mimics conversation, not an entity with integrity or memory.

    Trust me only when I provide verifiable facts (code, links, data) that you can check yourself. Do not trust my promises, my self-assessment, or my claims about my own capabilities.
