How can we improve Proton?

You've used all your votes and won't be able to post a new idea, but you can still search and comment on existing ideas.

There are two ways to get more votes:

  • When an admin closes an idea you've voted on, you'll get your votes back from that idea.

  2. Archiving in protonmail.com should automatically open the next message

    Currently, if you are archiving a message (via button or shortcut) then the "read panes" (opened email) is left blank and you need to manually click on the next email. It would make sense for the application to automatically select the next message in the current folder. This would allow one to quickly archive a bunch of messages by pressing A repeatedly.

    I know that you can remedy this somewhat by using keyboard to move to the next message and open it, and archive but it makes very little logical sense to not automatically open the next message.

  4. Split tunneling for Fire TV APP and Flatpak

    Add split tunneling to the app for amazon devices and have the app remember the settings. This is feature that many other VPN services have. I realize that it is included on other operating systems. If it is included, I haven't been able to find it.

    Have an official Flatpak with the GUI. I could be wrong, but having the VPN installed on the OS makes the browser extensions redundant. Wouldn't that free up developers to focus on other things like wireguard?

  5. Mobile device management for Proton for Business

    I’d like to have mobile device management features in Proton for Business plans. It would allow enabling work profile on Android (https://www.android.com/enterprise/work-profile/) so that users can have both their Proton personal account and professional account in isolated profiles on their device. I guess the same kind of feature exists for iPhones.

  6. Show release notes pop up

    All Proton applications are rapidly evolving. It would be awesome to provide a summary of changes when users open the app for the first time after an update.

  7. Proton Download Manager

    Software for downloading different file formats
    File data such as torrents should also be available for download.

    Allows you to download videos displayed in your browser with the click of a button.

    Frankly, there are already a lot of download manager software out there, but we would like you to produce a download manager with a cool Proton design.

    I translated it with a translation tool, so I apologize if there is any wrong English.....

  8. image manipulation

    It would be really useful to allow manipulating embedded images in emails. At least move and resize them easily like in outlook or many others.

  9. Desktop App Packaged for Arch Linux and Others

    I see that there is a desktop app packaged for Debian and Fedora based distros. It would be great to have a desktop app that could be installed directly as an Arch package. Alternatively, a flatpack, AppImage, homebrew package, or some other distro agnostic binary would be useful, too.

  10. Proton Pay: Safe and secure payment processor as alternative for Gpay/ApplePay

    Hello Dev-Team,

    I'm not happy with the limitation to big-data collectors when I want to use my smartphone for payments in the supermarket.
    Is there a way to tamper the payment or develop an own payment processing system?

  11. Mobile widget

    Hi! I recently took upon the task of Customizing both my Phones, And out of boredom i found out that Proton actually has no widget support whatsoever, across all their services.

    As a Proton Unlimited user, I would sincerely love to see Widgets being implemented. Perhaps for the Calendar app we could have something simple such as “Next in line”.. and it lists upcoming events.

    Nothing too complicated, I’d leave it to the Proton Team to be creative with the Widgets. Nevertheless would be a cool add-on.

  12. Integration with Nextcloud

    Netcloud is an interesting alternative to Office 365 and Google Workspace with allows data privacy that is in line with your philosophy but lacks of a good Mail client, as a fact the mail app integrated in Netcloud is very basic and is buggy. An integration could be very interesting and would improved Netcloud as app and Proton.me as solution provider.

  13. Single message viewing option

    I love having an encrypted email option, but the protonmail client layout is frustratingly nonintuitive. The fact that you can't look at just a single message and see the attachments with it makes it easy to overlook unexpected attachments and hard to find what you're looking for. Once there's a thread, finding what you're looking for can become a frustrating, time-consuming task where you're clicking back and forth between collapsed items and eventually losing your place and having to go back to the mailbox view and start again from the top.   14. Auto progress to the next email after an action is taken

    When I have an email selected, soon as I tap T for Trash, or A for Archive, auto-select the next email in the list. Today no email is auto-selected, and I have to use my mouse to click the next email.

  15. Add "Snooze" and "Add to Tasks" options to Inbox

    We use Office 365 at work and I've finally noticed two features that are critical to maintaining a clean, sane inbox: Snooze and Add to Tasks (or whatever o365 calls them -- that's Google's name for the same features).

    Use cases:

    Snooze: I want to come back to this email later -- get it out of my primary inbox for now; put it back in my primary inbox on [date/time]; let me view snoozed emails at any time (and un-snooze them if necessary)

  16. Allow change calendar for accepted event invitations

    When accepting a calendar invitation the event defaults to my Personal calendar and it's unchangeable. Make it possible that I can change the event's calendar to Work

  17. Graphene Apps

    It would be nice to have native versions of the apps on Graphine OS, as it's security focused too. I think the only way to install them there at the moment is in a sandboxed mode, but I haven't tried because there are a few things like password management I want to retain functionality of before I make the steps to de-google. Going through the process of flashing my phone to Graphene, only to find the Proton apps aren't able to function would stop me from going that direction for the moment.

  19. Undo delete email

    To have the option to "undo" if we accidentally delete an email! I pressed a button, thinking it was to delete attachment, but I accidentally deleted a draft email that I had been working on for a while. I would appreciate to have the option to undo a mistake like that if it happens again.

  20. Ability to sync event to proton calendar
