Do not use google at all!
ProtonMail service is positioned as private and anonymous. But when you click on the contact button, it offers to import from Google evil corporation (screenshots: https://shorturl.at/loLNV https://shorturl.at/oxGO9) This action compromises the IP address of the evil corporation. Kindly remove this button from such a visible place or mark it with a sign warning of possible compromise of IP and other data. Also, I believe that any service that cares in any way about user privacy should sever all ties with evil corporation Google. This is not a good move by a company that values privacy and anonymity. Google is a huge hole in privacy and anonymity. Please unbind all of your services from the evil eye of Google's malicious organisation.
In particular, this applies to:
- Removing the malicious notification library from the Android app
- Removal of the Google contacts integration .

I'm forced to use google because of some of the integration features. These include but are not limited to: calendly, zoom, desktop file sync, online document editor (doesn't have to be robust, just basic), WearOS app integration or IMAP capability or an android version of the bridge. When proton decides to implement these basic features then we can ditch google. Also, a photo storage backup for your mobile phone by "date taken" would be nice. I hate backing up my photos to google and amazon

Dude its just import function not a integration of servers that can h@ack your data. Your data is private as Crypto node or block chain technology help it. So it impossible to crack it. I use Ethereum Node of compromise my data through https://cryptonodes.io/ and you should use that too.

I appreciate that I could easily transition away from Gmail with this import feature. There is no reason to get rid of these integrations.

Dude, calm down. It is just an import feature, there are no "ties" between the two companies.

Correct me if I'm wrong.
If you use an Android phone then your operating system is made by Google unless you use a manually installed version like lineageOS that's "de-googled".
Not sure what "malicious notification library" means but I assume this is again something built into the Android operating system, and again I'd recommend using a custom installation to remove Google from the OS.
The button you're referring to to import contacts makes it easy for people to transfer their existing data into proton and abandon Google Contacts altogether. This is a **good** thing, not a bad thing. If you don't want to import from Google then don't. If you do, then that means you were already using Google before and have shared way more data with them by prior usage than you will migrating data away.
I disagree with both of these suggestions, I think the import from Google is a solid feature to help new users easily make the switch to private and secure email and there is no risk to privacy in doing so.

People don't realize how much google spies on you. They also don't see how google is very Bias. Most dont see the bad thinks google does, but many are starting to wake up, and are looking for Alternatives for their things. I hope people can find great Alternatives to google and their Products. One of the best bets is Use a Adblock and script blocker to help clean out Most of the spying. Good Luck I hope the best for all.

I agree Google is a pernicious influence I use Duck duck for my searches is that ok?). Remember that social media platforms are also extremely aggressive in collecting your personal info. Whats even worse is when your contacts with other people are also logged as links. this intrusive concept just outrages me. it gives power to orgs like Cambridge Analytica to influence elections etc.

For those who read this and came to the conclusion that Proton is "using Google", it's my understanding that this post is simply referring to importing data from an old gmail account into Proton. The concern was that this links your new Proton account to your old Google account in their records, which is realistic in my opinion.
This doesn't mean that Proton is relying on Google for any functionality. That's just an onboarding shortcut.
It may be better to have good guides on how to manually export data from Google, and import it into Proton.

This is extremely critical - Please continue towards self-reliance as your business model.
Full F-Droid support for all Proton applications Android users, Basic IOS support i.e., ProtonMail, VPN and Calendar (At least have a two way sync calendar.)
With these BARE minimum requirements you will retain life long Paid Proton user(s); I should not speak for others; that will encourage others around to pursue the same, while not being the product. -

Honestly, I've used Google for over a decade and had them lose files from Google Drive, send me through toll booths despite me clarifying otherwise (up to six times in one drive!) with Google Maps... If I wanted Google Mail, why would I want to utilize Google services on another provider? I was honestly thinking about giving ProtonMail money for my household to get good email addresses, but now I'm thinking otherwise... Everyone talks about their security, but you can't put all your eggs in one nest and expect to count them the same in the future..! The bigger you are, the more people target you. Nevermind that utilizing your competition leaves you vulnerable if they decide to try and make a morally unacceptable manuever. I cannot express enough how disappointed I am to look around, specifically for Google free alternatives, just to find out they still use Google...
