FFS Proton, prioritise this urgently.
The last two outages have exposed a glaring and frankly ridiculous single point of failure in Proton Pass.
If my encrypted vault is already stored locally on my Windows PC or in a browser extension, I should not lose access to my own passwords just because Proton’s servers are unavailable.
An outage should stop syncing. It should not stop local decryption.
A password manager is supposed to guarantee reliable access to critical credentials, not make that access dependent on the continued availability of the vendor’s infrastructure.
If Proton disappears from the internet for an hour, I should still be able to unlock and decrypt the vault already sitting on my device. Full stop.
Anything less means Proton itself is sitting directly in the critical path between users and their own passwords, and the last two outages have shown exactly why that is a terrible design.
Proper offline vault access, including local unlocking and decryption on Windows desktop and browser extensions, needs to be treated as an urgent priority, not a nice-to-have feature for later.
I'm very much regretting my lifetime Proton Pass account lately.
