Commitment from Proton to allow limited read-only access to disabled Proton Pass accounts
Having a single account for your password manager and email, calendars, files, etc is a point of concern for many people. What happens if you get locked out of your Proton account or it gets banned? You’d then be locked out of every other account stored in Proton Pass.
I would love to see a commitment from Proton where, in the event any Proton account is disabled for whatever reason, even the most egregious reasons including abuse or fraud, that Proton will always and unconditionally allow limited, read-only access to Proton Pass. All other Proton products can remain disabled.
It would help facilitate either manual account recreation (copy/paste) into another password manager or downloading a Proton Pass export so it can be imported into another password manager. Both should be available, not one or the other. There should be full, but read-only access to every item in every vault, including the trash and viewing any hidden fields or (if it’s added) downloading associated files, etc. There should not be any time limits as recreating a password manager database is incredibly time consuming to properly maintain every field, because no one password manager perfectly imports an export from another password manager.
I have no qualms with Proton taking whatever steps to protect itself and other users, or stopping people from abusing the platform or perpetrating fraud. However, nobody should be temporarily or permanently locked out of every single other account they’ve stored in Proton Pass as a result of those actions.
