How can we improve ProtonMail?

You've used all your votes and won't be able to post a new idea, but you can still search and comment on existing ideas.

There are two ways to get more votes:

  • When an admin closes an idea you've voted on, you'll get your votes back from that idea.
  • You can remove your votes from an open idea you support.
  • To see ideas you have already voted on, select the "My feedback" filter and select "My open ideas".

If a similar idea already exists, you can support and comment on it.

If it doesn't exist, you can post your idea so others can support it.

  1. signature

I would like to have the opportunity to place the signature at the very end of my messages instead of at the top. This is easier to read modifications inserted in the text of the message I am responding to.

      • ability to see default font size and color

ProtonMail had great interface, but why not include the ability to
set default size & color - like Gmail allows?

        • Delete everything?! Presently, "Trash" sits above "All Mail", a few pixels error and two clicks deletes "All Mail", instead of "Trash".

Keep valid working folders separate from "Trash" logically (disconnect labels) and ergonomically/gui.

          • Payments over Google Play |Fast|EASY|ADVANCED|SECURE

Yo! So.. The most of Mobile Phone users are Android Users, right? Also Protonmail does require Google Play to run, right? So why shouldn't we pay our bills ( Plans, extra features like storage etc.. ) with the integrated Google Play Payments? It is fast, easy, advanced and secure. If you wanna Pay with PayPal because you don't have a credit card? No Problem! Pay with Bank or Paypal Funds. Or if you neither have a Bank account ( PayPal as example ) or you want to stay more Anonymous, why shouldn't you pay with Google Play Credit? So you can simply…

            • IMAP/SMTP for FREE in the basic version

I hope the users will be able to download e-mail (using IMAP/SMTP) unless paying for premium. This is crucial in my opinion (to be able to use the service longterm). If not, 500 Mb becomes rediculous after some time...

              • VPN

Well, you have launched your own VPN. Congratulations!
The big problem is that we can't test it.
I have been looking for a VPN which doesn't impact your speed.
We pay a lot of money to have a high internet speed; therefore it is frustrating to see that our bandwidth is halved when not more when we use a VPN.
I have tested either as free or as a subscription many VPN and never found one able to have a decent speed though they all promise that it will be flash speed.
You offer some otions (High and Highest), now…

                    • Corporate use and backup

Proton mail is a nice service, but today I am a bit hesitating to use it as corporate mail server.
                      The main reason is backup.
Of course Protonmail is a nice company and nothing should happen which could prevent us to access to our mails.
Probably Lavabit users thought the same thing.
It shouldn't be such a problem to have a small program downloading our mailbox in a encrypted format and have a small other one which would uncrypt them in a .rtf file.
As far as I know I would think much safer if I knew that my address…

                          • Removing account after sometime of inactivity are bad idea.

                            I mean...for example in Tutanota.
                            1) Deleting account after some inactivity time
                            2) Do nothing after some inactivity time

if you guys doing this,i will use protonmail.

In order to build confidence in sending secure messages to non-protonmail customers it would be good to either add business branding or a unique message or mark to make it clear it is legitimate and not an email from a random third party.

                                • Better SSL

                                  Hi.

                                  SSL can be improved (https://www.ssllabs.com/ssltest/analyze.html?d=protonmail.ch):

                                  1. Server prefers AES 128, not AES 256. WHY?
                                  2. Only very old OSes like android 2.3 don't support AES 256. It should be at the bottom of prefferences list or even DISABLED.
                                  3. Key exchange - can you use secp384r1 and DH 4096 (for older devices) instead of secp256r1 and DH 2048.
                                  4. Can you enable OCSP Stapling?
                                  5. What about HPKP (even only for root certificate)?

                                  Thanks

                                  • Disposable email Address Like Yahoo Mail

I have tried every email provider and non of them have what i need. I always go back to Yahoo mail for their one simple feature that stands out - easily Create Up to 500 DISPOSABLE email extensions.
Unfortunately Yahoo mail is no longer Private and email page is almost never SSL secured and i worry about sensitive work emails being leaked.

Say my main email address is yahoouser@yahoo.com, i can add yahoouser01-_____@yahoo.com (any name in the middle) extention email which is safely deletable anytime.

                                    HOW?
Its VERY EASY. on your yahoo email account,…

                                      • Autoresponder

That would be very nice to have a basic autoresponder. Advanced options like set up the autoresponder automatically during week-ends, nights, etc. with different messages according time slots, senders, identities, etc. would be also very cool.
Then I'll be able to switch to protonmail for my professional usage.
