  1. Offer split tunneling, even with the kill switch activated

Sometimes, we want all our traffic to go through the VPN (including things the system does in the background), except for one or two applications/hostnames/IPs. The current approach does not allow this to be done without completely disabling the kill switch.

It's technically possible to implement this, although I admit it may require some changes on the client-side of the VPN. But this is very important!

  2. Add setting "allow LAN connected" for linux

Please add the setting to "allow LAN connections" for Linux while connected to vpn. Turning the vpn off to use the printer is no fun.

  3. Proton VPN for Arch Linux

It would be nice to be able to use Proton VPN on Arch Linux with an official application.

  4. Submit Linux package updates in official distro repos

Proton VPN is open source and uses well-known and established components of the NetworkManager stack. Due to these two things, there is virtually nothing standing in the way of the Proton VPN team from building and submitting packages officially to Linux distributions like Fedora, Debian, Ubuntu, EPEL, etc. Proton VPN is further enhanced by packaging upstream by increasing the availability of Proton VPN software packages in the global software package mirroring network (deterring censorship) and benefiting from improved transparency and openness by building packages through distribution-supported build systems, which are often reproducible.

The policies of most distros are friendly to…

  5. Dedicated IP for personal plans

It is an option for business users and would be a nice add for home users. My wife is sick of all the capchas and blocked sites from the VPN. I have been using Proton mail since 2019 and the unlimited since last year. Had to switch back to mail only until you add the dedicated ip to home users at a reasonable cost.

    Thank you for the consideration.

  6. Linux app for arm64 GUI and CLI

Hello, like many users, I use a low-power ARM64 machine for P2P downloads via Torrent. The problem is that there isn't a Linux ARM64 application yet, which prevents me from setting up the Port Forwarding as explained in the guides, since I have to use it through WireGuard instead of the official app.Is this release planned? Thanks.

  7. Split tunneling, select which app connects through which country

It would be great if Proton VPN split tunneling worked so that I can select which app's traffic is routed through whic country. For example, I'd like to select that Youtube goes through Moldova, Firefox through Netherlands, banking app through Germany etc. This could maybe be built into profiles as well so I can quickly set up even different split tunneling scenarios.

  8. Proton VPN’s kill-switch isn’t Direct-Boot aware on GrapheneOS

On GrapheneOS, the updater runs before first unlock (BFU) to grab security patches, but Proton VPN’s kill-switch isn’t Direct-Boot aware. Enabling it brings up the VPN UI BFU, yet no network ever connects, so updates fail until you unlock the device.

    Repro:

Install Proton VPN on GrapheneOS (e.g. Pixel 6 Pro 2025.05.15)

    Turn on kill-switch

Reboot and stay at lock screen

Watch the BFU updater time out for lack of network

    Impact:
Devices miss critical patches until next unlock, extending exposure to exploits.

    Fix:
    • Mark the VPN service as android:directBootAware="true" in AndroidManifest.xml
    • Move its config/certs into Device-Protected Storage…

  10. Proposal for Universal Linux App Distribution via Flatpak or Snap

Proton VPN is currently officially supported on a limited number of distributions (Debian, Ubuntu, and Fedora) through separate .deb and .rpm packages. This approach requires maintaining distinct packages, which can be an unnecessary burden on your development team, and it leaves out users on a large number of other popular distributions like Arch, OpenSUSE, Solus, and immutable distros like Fedora Silverblue.

To address this, we propose adopting a universal Linux application packaging format, specifically Flatpak or Snap, for the official Proton VPN client.

Key Benefits of Adopting Flatpak or Snap:

    1. Massive Distribution Coverage: A single Flatpak (via Flathub) or Snap…

  11. I2P

I’d like to propose adding native support for the Invisible Internet Project (I2P) to enhance Proton VPN’s offerings.

I2P is a decentralized, anonymizing network that enables secure, private communication, complementing Proton’s existing Tor support. Integrating I2P could:

Appeal to privacy-focused users who use I2P for secure browsing, messaging, or file sharing.
Position Proton VPN as a leader in supporting multiple anonymity networks.
Simplify setup for users, as manual I2P configuration with VPNs can be complex.
Suggested features could include dedicated I2P servers, one-click connectivity (similar to your Tor integration), or optimized settings for I2P traffic (e.g., port forwarding or split…

  12. Add a feature to the Android version of Proton VPN that allows you to choose which apps can access the internet.

Add a feature to the Android version of Proton VPN that allows you to choose which apps can access the internet. This is different from split tunneling; it would give you the ability to block full internet access for apps that don't need it.
There are already apps that do this, but they use a VPN themselves and therefore cannot be used with Proton VPN.

  13. Use Quantum-Resistant Cryptogtaphic Algorithm

OpenVPN uses TLS for encryption, Quantum Proof Algorithms including the four selected by NIST are provided by liboqs. The library is already present in repositories of many Linux Distros. liboqs is integrated in TLS, means no additional work is required for the client side. This would be very easy to implement in The VPN.

Much better alternative would be that Proton makes it's own Algorithm. It would be a good way to add it as an optional feature in the initial stages for testing.

  14. Fix Custom DNS on Linux and Windows

Custom DNS on Linux and Windows Does not work. The custom DNS address is ignored, and DNS requests are still sent via Proton servers.

It works on Android (although after some time it seems to revert to Proton DNS servers until I disconnect and reconnect, when it starts working again).

    This needs resolving please.

  15. Show Hosting Provider Info in Server List

Please add hosting provider info directly in the ProtonVPN app, displayed alongside the server name (e.g. PL#81 – DataCamp).

Or even better, add categories for hosting providers, just like cities currently are, so users can quickly find all servers from a specific provider that work best with their ISP.

For example, my ISP performance varies by provider:

    - Excellent with Datacamp Limited (DataPacket)
    - Decent with PV-SL-HOSTED-Warsaw-Network
    - Terrible with M247

Currently, I have to connect to multiple servers and check my IP info to find a provider that works well, which wastes several minutes and is very annoying.

    Mullvad…

  16. Align Proton VPN versions on Google Play and F-Droid

Currently, Google Play offers the user version 5.11.94.0 (2025-06-06) for installation. At the same time, F-Droid offers version 5.11.39.1 (2025-06-11). I propose to align the versions available in these app stores.

  17. Auto shutdown when phone put in airplane mode

I would love for the VPN to automatically stop trying to connect when I place my phone in airplane mode and also have it auto connect when I take my phone out of airplane mode.

While in airplane mode (with no WiFi services, such as on a flight) the application keeps attempting to connect to a server. This significantly drains my battery, unless I remember to manually disconnect it after toggling airplane mode on.

It often happens that in random or fastest mode, a connection is established through servers in countries that are not desirable for many people.

  20. IP & Domain Filter / Denylist

I would like to have the option to block some IPs or domains like X.com to prevent me from using them.
Simple feature to NetBlock or separate.
    Exactly like Denylist in NextDNS.
I can't set custom DNS when NetShield is enabled.
