  1. Split tunneling with hostnames

In the current tech landscape, the same website can be served through thousands of distinct IPs, changing over time depending on specific criteria or even between deployments. It is humanly exhausting, and frankly unfeasible, to require that we have knowledge of IPs or IP ranges to exclude a specific site from VPN usage.

I firmly believe that it is possible to implement the ability to provide access through hostnames (to enable any level of subdomain as well) without the need for a Herculean effort, even if it is necessary to require the user to use a specific DNS service.

  2. Offer split tunneling, even with the kill switch activated

Sometimes, we want all our traffic to go through the VPN (including things the system does in the background), except for one or two applications/hostnames/IPs. The current approach does not allow this to be done without completely disabling the kill switch.

It's technically possible to implement this, although I admit it may require some changes on the client-side of the VPN. But this is very important!

  3. Large connect button on UI does not work in Tahoe 26.

Tahoe 26 has messed with your UI. The large connect/disconnect button at the top of the UI does nothing on my MacBook Pro M1 Max running Tahoe 26. I have to go down and click the connect or disconnect button that shows up right next to the country name in the list of countries.

    PLEASE FIX.

  4. Add a timer to do automatic release and re-connect (adding reconnect to lowest # connections server in group)

I find, on the Mac at least, that my VPN connection will become saturated and will fail after a while. I can solve this by disconnecting and then reconnecting. This seems to flush the tcp/ip stack and allows for network traffic to begin again. I then see qBitorrent is transferring on multiple connections again. Sometimes I need to restart qBitorrent as well, but not nearly as often. I don't know if this is a bug in the tcp/ip stack or how Mac handles the traffic on an OS level. It may also be from the saturation in the network stack…

  5. Provide warnings for recent legislature changes in selected country

Proton should provide a warning note against countries that have made recent legal changes that impact the internet. This could include things like the UK's Online Safety Act causing websites to behave differently or more serious legislation that allows the government to track or control internet access.

The goal of this feature would be to warn Proton VPN users about impending or recently implemented law changes for their awareness and safety online.

  6. Manually configuration to in-built Android VPN

Feature Proposal: Manual VPN Configuration Integration

    Objective:
Allow Proton VPN users to configure their VPN connection manually using Android’s built-in VPN client, giving users more flexibility and control while maintaining security.

    Why This Feature is Valuable

    1. User Flexibility:
Some users prefer using Android’s native VPN interface for easier switching, battery optimization, or compatibility with other apps.

    2. Compatibility:
Supports devices or scenarios where the Proton VPN app may not work, such as corporate or restricted environments.

    3. Enhanced Trust:
Advanced users can inspect and configure VPN parameters directly, fostering transparency.

    Key Features

    1. Manual Setup Guide in the App:
    • Proton VPN app provides …

  7. iOS widget background: remove gradient

I’m grateful for the iOS vpn widget, but the gradient background is an eyesore.

Other apps use a consistent, flat background in their widgets, dark gray in dark mode, and white in light mode. This means widgets from different apps still look nice when arranged into a “dashboard” next to each other — until I add the Proton widget, with its gradient-fade background.

I suppose the gradient is part of the Proton branding but it gets in the way here and should be skipped.

  11. Show Hosting Provider Info in Server List

Please add hosting provider info directly in the ProtonVPN app, displayed alongside the server name (e.g. PL#81 – DataCamp).

Or even better, add categories for hosting providers, just like cities currently are, so users can quickly find all servers from a specific provider that work best with their ISP.

For example, my ISP performance varies by provider:

    - Excellent with Datacamp Limited (DataPacket)
    - Decent with PV-SL-HOSTED-Warsaw-Network
    - Terrible with M247

Currently, I have to connect to multiple servers and check my IP info to find a provider that works well, which wastes several minutes and is very annoying.

  12. More Servers Outside of Jurisdictions with Age Verification Laws

With the implementation of age verification laws in the UK, Australia, and many states in the US, as a ProtonVPN user only using the free tier, I don’t want to connect to a server in a jurisdiction where I would have to show my ID. I propose, as a passive endeavor, that when you, the team behind ProtonVPN buys new servers, you avoid putting them in jurisdictions with age verification laws, to give a better chance of the fastest servers being in restrictive locations.

  14. macOS - Enhanced support for fast user switching

Currently, it appears that ProtonVPN does not support multiple ProtonVPN users of the same macOS machine, while using fast user switching.

After fast switching to a second user who also launches ProtonVPN, any attempt to establish their own VPN connection is unsuccessful. If the second user's instance ProtonVPN remains open, this also causes the original user to be unable to connect if their account is later returned to.

Logging out rather than fast switching does not appear to cause the same issue. Nor does manually closing ProtonVPN before making a fast switch to another user.

    Other VPN providers enable multiple…

  15. browser extension

The browser extension needs a bit of rework because it severs the connection a lot of times when it's on, regardless of whether it's a secure core or normal connection. It could also include CleanWeb, so it's not just in the desktop app, and also it could be more specific, ic uBlock Origin, so it could block scripts and have special filters. And the ui could do a bit of rework too.

  16. Mock gps

A vpn feature known usually as mock GPS.
It would have different options such as masking your GPS location to match your vpn ip address or to a specific location.

Such as the browser extension cloaq on desktop or the Mock GPS Location app on the Play Store.
There is also a simple version included in Surfshark that only uses the matching option.

  17. Fix the Proton VPN app - high ram use and lag

See here - https://www.reddit.com/r/ProtonVPN/comments/1h7g8vs/why_in_the_name_of_god_proton_vpn_takes_so_fing/. Proton VPN uses hundreds of MB RAM. And lags horribly when opened.

Please investigate and fix this. I assume you're using some sort of HTML framework. Maybe swap to something designed for desktop and speed - like Avalonia or Flutter.

  20. Suggestion: Temporary VPN Connection for Login Assistance

    Dear Proton VPN Team,

I am a user from mainland China. When trying to log in to the Proton VPN desktop client, the login process often fails due to local network restrictions. This makes it difficult for users in regions with strict internet controls to access the service, even if they already have valid accounts.

I would like to suggest adding a feature that allows the client to temporarily enable a lightweight VPN connection (or use a fallback method) during the login process. This would help users bypass local blocks and successfully authenticate, after which the normal VPN connection could…
