2. Script managing WireGuard ProtonVPN for Linux using CLI only

   I've put together a POSIX shell script allowing you to use ProtonVPN in Linux using only the native wireguard and Linux core utils having the script managing all aspects of the network such as routing and which DNS server to use when the VPN is up or not.

   It works very well for me so I brushed it up with more thorough error handling, documentation and examples in case more people have an interest in it.

   Basically it allows you to generate any number of protonvpn-wg-configurations you like and put them in your /etc/wireguard folder, the script selects up one of them based on certain criterias you decide (it can for example automatically determine the peer with lowest latency to you) and brings up the VPN fixing DNS (if you wish) and routing, cleaning everything up when the VPN is brought down.

   I've written it with network managers in mind and am using it with ifupdown in Debian.

   I've put it github for download:

   Feel free to use, modify and distribute as you like.

   Proton is welcome to put it on their pages if they like.

3. Netshield ad blocker - add possibility to whitelist domains/subdomains

   I need to deactivate the ad-blocker in Netshield when I visit certain websites (eg. Google Analytics). Please add the possibility to whitelist some domains/subdomains so we don't have to disable this feature.

4. Mobile app - Allow "trust wifi network" option

   VPN Always on - for this feature, it would be nice to have a "trust wifi network" option. Like Nord VPN, you can trust a certain wifi network so when you connect to that wifi network it disconnects the VPN. When you disconnect from that network it reconnects to the VPN. You can have a list of trusted wifi networks remembered in the app.

7. "Random" option when creating a profile

   When creating or editing a Standard VPN Profile, you select the country and then are given the option of "Fastest" or a given city/server. ProtonVPN used to have the option of to select "Random" here as well, ie a random server from within a specific country, but that seems to have been removed. Please add that option back.

8. Name IP addresses specified for split tunneling

   It would be helpful to be able to name or tag IP addresses that are added to the split tunneling list. Names would help users avoid deleting an address by accident, and easily review the sites that have already been specified.

9. Linux CLI connection status

   I use the ProtonVPN CLI on my Ubuntu MATE system. (I don't use the GUI app because I do not use Gnome.)

   It works well and I'm happy with it, but after I enter protonvpn connect and it exits successfully with news of an established connection, I don't know much of anything about the connection itself.

   According to the CLI --help argument the available commands are: ('signin', 'signout', 'info', 'connect', 'disconnect').

   I would like to suggest adding a command to this list, "status". That is, protonvpn status .

   This command would show whether the VPN connection is established or not, which city, and maybe some other basic info (health check, bytes passed, whatever).

   Note that this is different from the existing 'info' command which only shows Proton account login info for the VPN, nothing about the connection itself.

   This would be a big help while managing my VPN connection on my desktop.

10. Prioritize physical servers instead of the virtual servers on countries with both

    Right now, in Indonesia we have both physical servers and virtual servers. The thing is, when u click connect to Indonesia. It will randomly choose the virtual servers instead of the physical servers. In my opinion this is a flawed logic because not only do we have more added latency. There are also a few different sites that can tell that Proton's virtual IPs are not actually from Indonesia. Not only that, having ProtonVPN prioritize physical servers means that you will also most likely have a better speed and experience overall because we wont have to worry about the quality of our ISP's international link quality.

    Yes, I can understand the issues with this logic, like what if the physical servers are all full in terms of capacity and will yield lower performance/experience to the user? for this i would also suggest that u guys add a logic where ProtonVPN will prefer physical servers (load balanced of course so u wont get a congested server), then if all of the physical servers are congested enough where they will probably yield a worse experience, then let new users connect to the virtual servers.

12. Block App Snooping

    Implement a feature that prevents an app from accessing other apps. For example, Google and Facebook apps both keep tabs on what is going on in other apps. Duckduckgo has a VPN that disallows any app from accessing any other app, blocking thousands of attempts per hour.

13. Upgraded VPN for Mail Plus Subscribers

    I have been a Proton Mail Plus subscriber since 2021. As such I'm entitled to use the free version of Proton VPN. I just learned, however, non-mail subscribers can download and set up the same exact free VPN. To be clear, it appears they pay nothing for this. Seems unfair to paid mail subscribers. I would suggest providing an upgraded VPN with more features for Mail Plus subscribers; something short of VPN Plus. After all, there should be some benefit to being a paid mail customer versus a non-paying, non-customer. I recently cancelled my Express VPN subscription so I could switch to Proton VPN. This issue has caused a bit of disappointment. I respectfully request this matter be considered by the decision makers. Thank you for the forum.

15. Give us the ablility to exclude specific servers.

    Youtube has been blocking based on IP. Once that happens, I wouldn't mind excluding those servers.

16. ProtonVPN Docker App

    It would be amazing to have ProtonVPN natively support Docker.

    There is a github project that had limited support for this, but seems to be broken now that the logicals API (https://api.protonvpn.ch/vpn/logicals) is depreciated.

    A full featured Docker app would be very much appreciated

17. Search for VPN server

    I'd like the ability to quickly type and search for VPN servers/countries, on both iOS and Mac. Surfshark does this and it's such a friendly way to quickly switch to different countries based on my needs. on protonvpn, I have to scroll and search for the flag/abbreviation of the country, which is not a great UX

18. All VPN servers on a global network (a similar feature to Surfshark Nexus)

    Currently on Surfshark they have options such as RotatingIP (without any disconnections) thanks to Nexus. This is their name for having all of their VPN severs connected on a global network. This also can change the users server incase of over crowding without any loss of service. (For more info on what it does you can google Surfshark Nexus). Would be nice for a similar feature on Proton.
