How can we improve Proton Drive?

You've used all your votes and won't be able to post a new idea, but you can still search and comment on existing ideas.

  1. Access logging & alerts for shared files

    Would be great to have a log providing an audit trail of when shared files were accessed. i.e. "Shared file XYZ.txt was downloaded $DATE." Additionally, the option to receive an email alert when the file is accessed would be nice. It's convenient to know when someone has grabbed a shared file, and it's great to detect if a shared file is being accessed more often than expected (i.e. someone shared the link with others).

  2. Backup a network drive

    When I attempt to use the Proton Drive Windows app, it requests that I select a folder for automatic backup to Proton Drive. However, it will not allow me to select a network drive.

  3. When uploading a new version of an existing file, ask if it should overwrite the old one or keep both versions instead

  4. Biometric / Pincode lock

    Would love to see a biometric / pincode lock on the Proton Drive app
    (example: what they use for bitwarden)

  6. Move or copy files from a synced computer folder to My Files in Proton Drive and vice versa.

    Within Proton Drive on the web, have the ability to move or copy files or folders from a synced computer folder to My Files in Proton Drive and vice versa.

  7. A Microsoft Office Add-In to enable auto-save

    Auto save can only be enabled when saving to a cloud. MS only have One drive available but Asus Webstorage have an addin to allow you to use your cloud storage with office. Would be great if Proton Drive could do the same and we could have our documents in a safe place by default

  8. Register Proton Drive mobile app to open local PDF files

    The Proton Drive mobile app can open PDF files uploaded within the app. However, it is not registered to open PDF files from within the system (e.g. a PDF file inside the File Manager). Adding this won't be difficult, especially since Proton Drive mobile app can already open these files.

  9. Proton Drive VAULT / ARCHIVE area that is cloud only and excluded from all app sync operations.

    It would be desirable that a part of your Proton Drive that should only be in the cloud and not visible to the app.

    Currently the Windows app syncs everything:
    * Everything in the directories that you select is uploaded
    * Everything in the "My Files" can be accessed from desktop by cloud stubs that the app creates.

    It would desirable to be able to select what you want from Proton Drive storage to be visible to your Win desktop. This could be done several ways:
    * The app have a button with the options of syncing/not syncing your Proton…

  10. Right click context menu to manage files folders and links

    Add an extension that allows you to upload a file/folder directly to the cloud using the context menu and create a share link straight away.

  11. Import or sync from other online cloud storage services

    I would like to be able to link/hook/connect to services such as: mega.nz, OneDrive, GDrive, or S3 directly from Proton Drive. Giving the ability to import or schedule synchronizing my files from these other services.

  12. Sync with QNAP NAS

    What I miss the most on Proton Drive is ability to Sync folders with QNAP NAS. It would be awesome to have Proton Drive as a secure cloud backup storage.

  13. Proton Drive Password Protection

    For the past few months, I have been using the Proton Drive. It's a great resource, but I'm always active on my email and wait to log out. My concern is that I have sensitive documents in my Drive, and I would like to have the option to set passwords to folders, or when accessing DRIVE, the system will ask me for the password to edit and move or delete any document.   14. Organize pictures with folders or tags

    So I just don't understand how we ended up without any way to organize the photo section of proton drive? I mean it's only organized by date essentially as close as I can tell.

    The problem comes when comparing this to Google photos which I currently pay for and have significant data there, is they allow me to take the files and put keywords in the files under the details area.

    Google also allows me to make folders of specific photos, so they can be organized. I'm just wondering if we can't put some folders in proton drive / photos…

  16. Edit photo metadata

    Don't need much. Currently, the Photos portion of Drive doesn't have any capability beyond view photo.

    I would like to be able to upload lots of photos and re-arrange them/fix metadata issues.

    Primarily, Windows has taken some of my old photos I've edited/restored and made the Date Modified to today's date, when the photo date taken was 1965. But when I upload to Photos, it appears as today's date.

    I should be able to easily go in and correct these mistakes.

  17. Custom Domains

    As someone who uses a custom domain for Proton Mail, I would like an option to setup a custom domain (or subdomain) for Proton Drive.

    Ideally a custom domain would be usable for both logged in Drive users and share links, but at a minimum there should be a way to select custom domains when creating share links.

    For example, if I am using a "username@domain.example" email address in Proton Mail, I should be able to generate share links that start with: https://drive.domain.example/urls/[...] instead of: https://drive.protonmail.com/urls/[...]

  18. Shared folders linked to Proton account (not just public links)

    Privacy and security are at the core of Proton's mission. Sharing folders through Proton Drive should be no different. A public URL for sharing stops short of privacy and security. A model that upholds privacy and security would be an invite model. Invite a specific person to the folder, if they do not have a Proton account, they can create one. They use this login to access files in the shared folder.

    A public URL has zero traceability to who is accessing the data. An invitation to a specific person would allow for traceability of the files in the folder…

  19. Add Labels

    I use labels extensively in ProtonMail, almost completely over a typical folder structure, because it allows me to avoid duplication of common subfolders. Currently, most of my folders are broken down by year subfolders, and I'd much prefer just using a label so I'm not forced to filter by the year and going into each of those folders to find something if I, say, forgot which year X happened.

    In general, I use folders for exclusive categories and labels for anything that may describe files in multiple folders, and I'd like to continue that structure from ProtonMail into ProtonDrive.

  20. Proton Automatic Secure Backup for local PC

    I currently use Google to back up my local PC files, and have found it both convenient and very reliable, but because I am aware of the privacy issues, I first I use a product called BoxCryptor to encrypt the files before they are handed off to Google. This has worked well, balances the convenance of cloud backup with data security. But BoxCytptor has been acquired by another company, and so now I’m going to have to locate an alternative solution. I would prefer to simply back up my data directly to my Proton drive and call it a day…
