1. API Checksum

   I keep most of my personal/project files in a folder structure that 'lives' in the cloud, but has a full offline mirror on my main devices (desktop and laptop). From my point of view this is an essential quality of life thing, and I have no idea how other people survive without doing this.

   The problem I have now is that I'm on linux, automating my mirroring with rclone. Rclone is great, but if a file gets corrupted during the sync process, it can't tell, which is A PROBLEM because over time with repeated syncs, corrupted files can potentially end up overwriting good files.

   Normally this problem can be solved by running checksums to verify integrity. A script can make sure that everything matches up correctly, and can automatically repair things instead of propagating destruction upon all my files. Unfortunately, it seems that Proton Drive hasn't exposed a system for this yet, so there is no reasonable way for me to do these integrity checks that are a key part of any healthy synchronization framework.

   The number one thing a file system should not do is destroy its files. Checksums are kind of 'the way' we make sure we don't explode things. This is really quite an essential feature.

   Edit: IMPORTANT: It seems I should mention that checksums can also MASSIVELY reduce the overhead traffic on your servers. They allow a sync engine to see if a file is the same, and its metadata just changed for some reason, so then the sync engine doesn't have to re-download the thing it already has. The users want this to speed up syncs on their end, and you guys should want this to get better performance for less server load on your end.

2. Segmented Streaming for Videos to enable previewing large video files

   I tried to preview a 5min video which is 5GB in my drive, but I couldn't. It wouldn't load at all. I assume the app is trying to download the whole thing and then let me view it instead of serving me chunks, so with segmented streaming I hope I can view any of my video files with 0 waiting time.

3. Keyboard shortcuts

   I would love to see keyboard shortcut support in the web version of Proton Drive. Out of habit, I always press F2 when I want to rename a file (same as in Windows and other Microsoft products, it has also been implemented in Google Drive).

   It would also be nice if e.g. Ctrl+A (or Cmd+A on macOS) selected all files/objects in the current view.

   Using the arrow keys (up and down) to move the selection from one object to the next. Extending selection of files by using the arrow keys (up and down) while holding Shift.

   Alt+Arrow up to traverse up one directory. This would pair well with moving with the arrow keys and using Enter to traverse into a selected directory (last shortcut works currently).

5. Revamp Docs's download feature

   When I try to export my document every single download item is lacking expected quality. I wanted to create a simple user manual for a small app with screenshots, but I can not seem to make a proper usable export from it.

   .docx have broken images and bad formatting

   .html have bad formatting as well

   .md is just an .md file without the images in the document, it should be a zip with image folder and [img] tag

   plain .txt works but it is pointless in this case

   .pdf is just "print to pdf" with browser specific headers that the user has to turn off (it could be forced out with CSS at least), also it is breaking formatting as everything else.

   It is great to work in Docs but exporting my work is a hassle.

6. Delete original backup if organized into an album

   I'm wondering if it would be feasible to add a feature into proton drive, where the original videos and photos get backed up if its possible to delete it after that same photo or video gets moved into an album as I imagine for most people it would be easier to search through named albums vs a random collection of pics and videos put together.

   TL;DR - Photo/video gets backed up>Move photo/video to album>Delete original photo/video (without deleting the one in the album). Saves space and keeps things clean and organized

7. Hide Microsoft Office temporary files from Recent Activity and Trash

   When using Microsoft Office with Proton Drive sync, temporary Office files such as ~$filename.docx appear in Recent Activity and Trash.

   These files are automatically created and deleted by Microsoft Office during normal operation, which creates unnecessary noise and clutter in activity/history/trash views — especially when working with many documents.

   Other cloud storage providers such as OneDrive or Dropbox seem to suppress them from user-facing views.

   It would greatly improve the overall UX if Proton Drive ignored or hid known Microsoft Office temporary files entirely.

   Additional thoughts:
   • If deletion/recovery notifications are enabled, they are triggered whenever Word closes a document.
   • While these temporary files may still serve internal Microsoft Office purposes, they are not meaningful user documents and do not need to be surfaced prominently in Proton Drive.

8. Currently, when backing up photos from a smartphone

   Hello Proton Drive Team,
   I wanted to share some feedback that I hope will be useful to you.
   Currently, when backing up photos from a smartphone, the folder structure is not preserved in the cloud. All photos end up mixed together in one place (or with very limited organization), even though they are neatly sorted into thematic folders on the phone (e.g. Vacation 2025, Family, Home Projects, etc.).
   It would be really helpful if Proton Drive respected the original folder structure. This would allow us to find the folder names directly in the cloud without having to reorganize everything manually.
   This makes a big difference in terms of organization and user experience, especially for those with a large number of photos.

9. Start Drive sync while 'preparing'

   Apologies, not sure if "new feature" or 'change to existing feature'.

   Setting up Proton Drive on a new machine or after a re-format - it spends HOURS "Setting up... (x items prepared for sync)" before it actually starts syncing.

   Why can't it start syncing what is already 'prepared' while figuring out the rest? Would be a HUGE QoL improvement for users and save a TON of time getting people up and running.

10. Proton Docs file history should not count towards maximum file size limit of 25MB

    When working with several larger images into a Proton document you can quickly run into the file size limit of 25MB.
    Going back and deleting said pictures is also of no help, as they are still kept in the document history, and now any further changes of that file are held ******* by said history. Not even rollbacks to previous versions are possible.

    There are currently two ways around this.
    1: Create a copy of the document (and re-share any links, in case of a shared document)
    2: Disable all file history for everything in Proton Drive.

    Option 1 is a hassle and breaks up your workflow, option 2 opens any file open to the possibility of data loss.

    Therefore file history should not count towards the document file size limit.
    Or; file history should be able to be deleted/disabled on a file-by-file basis.

11. Multi Account Sync

    A multi-account sync like InSync (multi-account sync software, because even Google hasn't managed to implement it) would be fantastic. I use a personal Proton account and a Proton business account, and I'd create another business account for a future project, but the deal-breaker is: I can only sync one account at a time.

    I always have to switch between accounts with logout and login, and that gets annoying after a while.

13. Drag and drop files into sidebar (Web version)

    At the moment (in the web version) one can only drag and drop files from the list of files to a folder in the top bar (My files > folder 1 > Folder 1.1, etc), but I need to be able to drag and drop files directly into folders in the left sidebar.

    Another thing important for this feature to work well is to be able to expand the left sidebar, so the entire folder names are displayed.

    ps. does this feature exist in the desktop app yet? I'm not using the app yet because my mac is too old...

15. Expand Proton Drive Search to Include Trash, PCs, and Mobile Devices

    As a Visionary Plan user, I use Proton Drive a lot for storing and managing my files. It would be really helpful if the search feature could be expanded to include:

    Trash Folder: Right now, finding deleted files in the Trash is hard because there's no search. Adding search here would make it much easier to recover lost files quickly.
    Files on My PCs and Mobile Devices: Currently, search only works for files inside Proton Drive. If it could also search files on my linked devices, it would save me a lot of time and make managing my files much smoother.
    This change would make Proton Drive even better and more convenient, especially for users who handle lots of files across different devices. Thanks for considering this idea!

    Why This Matters:

    • Efficiency: Easily find and recover files without having to scroll through everything manually.
    • Productivity: Manage files across all your devices in one place.
    • Better Experience: Makes Proton Drive more user-friendly and helpful.

19. Implement Preview for Excel and PowerPoint

    A preview function for Excel and PowerPoint documents would be very helpful for Drive Online users. Often a glance at the file, e.g. work schedule, would be sufficient and no download/editing is necessary.
