1. "hide-my-email alias" to have a "main account" feature to keep our main email safe even when using VPN

   I want to use VPN = Log in using main account and password. I want to use Lumo or Pass or any of them? once again, the issue of "is it safe for me to even copy paste my password?" but what about my email?

   Sugestion is: Allow Proton Unlimited features (VPN, Lumo, Pass) to be accessed via a secondary "Special" Proton Account linked to the main subscription

   Description: I propose the ability to create a secondary Proton Account, designated as a "Special" or "Incognito" account, that is directly linked to an existing Proton Unlimited subscription. This secondary account would grant full access to Proton VPN, Lumo, and Proton Pass features without requiring the user to log in with their primary main account credentials.

   Currently, accessing these services requires logging into the main account, which exposes the user's primary identity and data trail to every interaction. The proposed feature would allow users to:

   Create a secondary Proton Account (using a hide-my-email alias) that inherits the paid features (VPN, Lumo, Pass) of the main subscription.
   Use this secondary account for high-risk or privacy-sensitive activities, such as researching products that track user data, communicating with entities that demand extensive personal information (e.g., moving companies), or general browsing where the main identity should remain isolated.
   Ensure that the risk of abuse or crime does not increase, as the secondary account is strictly tied to the verified main subscription and cannot exist independently.
   

   Constraint: To prevent abuse and maintain the integrity of the "one idea" rule, this feature should be limited to one active "Special" account per main subscription at any given time. And have an expiration timmer so also cover the risk of people abusing this to "speed" their account or other issues.

   Rationale: This approach solves the privacy dilemma where users need to utilize Proton's privacy tools (VPN, Lumo) but cannot do so without exposing their main account identity to the very services they are trying to protect themselves from. By linking a disposable, secondary account to the main paid subscription, users gain a dedicated "safe zone" for sensitive tasks. This does not create a loophole for free access, as the secondary account is dependent on the paid main account, but it significantly enhances the utility of the Proton ecosystem for users who require compartmentalization of their digital identity. And on the ideea of one active, this means that if said account is compromised and will get rid of it, or we simple want to use a different one, we can at any time

2. Proton Pass should have permanent storage even for inactive accounts

   Vault (password manager) data are critically important and can't be lost, losing vault data is losing all access to all things.

   Some vault software such as Bitwarden has the permanent storage even for inactive accounts, and that's the supposed-to-be way.

   There are these 2 situation:
   - User using both Proton Mail and Proton Pass
   - User using only Proton Pass

   For the first situation
   - User will access email everyday and the inactivity rule never applies
   - And thus Proton Pass data are sure there

   For the 2nd situation
   - User may use Proton Pass for access, eg. web
   - But there is a case that all sites are authenticated
   - and even for a year (may happen), no need to use Proton Pass
   - Now it's inactive and the vault data are deleted

   Losing vault data as said above is disaster,
   I guess Proton account should not be closed due to inactivity,
   data of other Proton apps can be wiped due to inactivity,
   but Proton Pass must be permanent.

3. Partition data access within services via unique secondary cryptographic keying and passwords

   One of the things that keep me up at night as the broad exposure given to my data anywhere I am signed in on my proton account. Here's some threat examples:

   • Suppose I am signed in to my email on my phone, should my phone or that email app ever become compromised, literally every email and the ability to send and receive future emails to/from all addresses (should the compromise remain undetected) belongs to whoever compromised it
   • Suppose I wish to store extremely sensitive passwords alongside less sensitive ones, one proton pass login allows access to all of it
   • Same goes for proton drive, if I have sensitive photos and documents along side general notes and such, one password unlocks it all unilaterally.

   I'd like to essentially see an opt-in capability to create an arbitrary number of partitions, each with unique keying, and criteria for what uses that keying. E.g:

   • On proton mail you could elect that certain sender or recipient addresses go into certain partitions, along with a default
   • On proton drive, you could drill down first into a particular partition, and then everything beneath it is uniquely encrypted; this is essentially the same idea that proton pass would use

   You would be able to unlock none, one, or any combination of available keys to access the partitions and that access would be established with a password (unique per partition), and the partition would be unlocked for the duration of your login session, cleared at logout.

   If I had this functionality there would be certain things, I could stratify by sensitivity as well as separation of concerns, e.g. I do not need to decrypt my phone's photo library every time I access proton drive, I don't need to decrypt tax returns to work on my writing. I don't need to unlock all my most sensitive emails from my phone just to have access to hotel and transit emails whwen on travel, and if I do need access to additional emails, I can decrypt just the level I care about and close access afterward. Ideally proton can optionally require a 2fa auth to retrieve the additional data so that even if someone caches the keying material somehow, they still won't get future data after closing the partition.

5. PIN for mobile mail app

   Hi. I really like Proton apps, but I am shocked that there is still no PIN protection for mobile mail app (I use Android). If smartphone gets unlocked then someone could read e-mail, please fix this ASAP.

6. Sync too slow

   I have ~700GB data on my drive. Syncing a new pc to keep everything locally takes days. and that with 1GBit/s internet. That's just way too slow.

7. Allow shared caledar to be set as primary

   Currently a calendar shared with your account cannot be set as the default or primary calendar, so if you want to have a family calendar where everyone's events are added automatically, only the first user to create the calendar will have this functionality.

8. Copy a calendar event on mobile

   Within in the Windows Proton Calendar/Mail app you can copy an event, we need this same functionality on the mobile device Android/Apple. This is a basic and incredibly important feature to NOT have on the phone.

9. Show full folder path to folder when selecting to move an email

   When choosing to move an email into a folder, the search filter will match, but it only shows the name of the folder, however it should show the full path (aka the parent folders) not just the leaf node.

10. The total revamping of onboarding guidance

    Proton currently fails to guide you as a new user. I've introduced some people into my Visionary plan recently and realized that there's very little comprehensive guidance of switching into the ecosystem. This should be a defined workflow from Proton if they want to market themselves as an ecosystem.

    Here's how you import, sort your emails and set up filters.
    Here's how you import passwords, set up aliases, 2FA and migrate to Proton, while keeping backups so you don't lose data.
    Here's how you can switch to Proton Drive, set things up and here are our suggested workflows.
    This should be a flow that STARTS immediately.

11. Zero Reliance on Web/Browser Interface

    Please have full versioned, fully functional (including anything you can do in the online version including settings, mailbox rules, etc: full parity) locally installable programs for all products or that includes multiple products (Mail app that has Drive, Meet and Calendar and a pass/auth/wallet maybe) that is completely usable when offline and will resume any queued emails in outbox or shared files or updated events, etc. once internet service resumes. Not everyone has persistent internet due to things like geographical location or security protocols. Additionally, should be able to configure Drive to be utilised in the programs of choice like one can use NextCloud as a storage/sync option in OnlyOffice for instance and file format portability so whatever is created by users in Proton's native apps can be opened or exported to similar programs of choice or saved to the folder or location of choice. Basically, the only reason someone would need to log into the Proton website is to do something account management related.

12. A Proton Wallet Update

    The current Proton wallet only really houses Bitcoin from what I've experienced. I feel it would be a good idea to have an updated version or a different software called Proton Pay, have it like a proton version of Google pay and apple

    It would be a great feature if Proton Mail for iOS supported a dedicated picker for funny emoji stickers for imessage. 15. Phone Generated One-Time Codes Instead of Passwords

    Instead of password-protected, when sending an encrypted email or a drive folder, add the recipient's phone number so they receive a one-time access code.

    Currently, using passwords to read encrypted emails or drive links requires sharing the password somehow. Such as sharing it in an email body or via a one-time link from Proton Pass. It'd be great to have an access process that the recipient can complete on their own without having to create new passwords.

    One of the reasons to use Proton is to share sensitive data that isn't frequently moved. A belt and suspenders system in which you can set links to be accessed once, time-limited, and only accessible via a code that the recipient gets on their phone would be great.

    At least in the US, Gmail provides this feature.

16. Native Proton apps for HarmonyOS NEXT

    Please develop native HarmonyOS NEXT apps (HAP/ArkUI) for Proton Mail, Calendar, Drive, Pass, and VPN etc... Android APKs do not really work on NEXT.

18. UX Design Critique: Proton App Icon System

    UX Design Critique: Proton App Icon System

    Overall assessment

    This icon set fails the core job of an app launcher: enabling fast, pre-attentive recognition. A user opening this switcher cannot identify apps without reading labels. That's a fundamental usability failure, not a stylistic preference.

    1. Color hierarchy is broken
       Eight of ten icons sit in the same purple-blue-pink gradient family. Color is the fastest channel in visual perception — processed pre-attentively in roughly 200ms, before shape recognition kicks in. By collapsing eight apps into one hue family, Proton has eliminated its strongest recognition signal.
       The two exceptions (Docs blue, Sheets green) prove the cost of the choice: they're the only icons your eye locks onto immediately. Everything else requires conscious search.
       This isn't a brand-cohesion win. It's brand-cohesion over usability — and the trade is bad, because users interact with the launcher hundreds of times per week and see the marketing lineup once.

    2. Shape language lacks distinctiveness
       Strong icon systems use silhouette as the second recognition channel after color. Proton's silhouettes collide:

    Calendar and Drive — both rounded squares with a folded corner. Same proportions, same gradient direction. At 24-32px they're functionally identical.
    Pass and VPN — both minimal downward-pointing geometric primitives (rhombus, triangle). Different shapes technically, same visual weight and reading.
    Mail and Meet — both have a folded/peaked top edge silhouette. In a quick scan they cluster.

    When color fails and silhouette overlaps, there is no fallback. The user is forced into label-reading, which is the slowest recognition mode available.

    1. Glyphs are semantically empty This is the deepest problem. App icons should encode function in shape:

    Envelope → mail
    Folder → file storage
    Key/lock → passwords
    Shield/globe → VPN
    Card stack → wallet
    Date grid → calendar

    Proton gets two right (Mail's envelope, Drive's folder). The rest are abstract:

    Pass is a rotated square. It has no relationship to passwords, vaults, keys, or credentials. A new user cannot infer the function from the icon.
    VPN is a downward triangle — closer to a play button than a shield, tunnel, or network symbol. No functional signal.
    Calendar's meaning comes entirely from the "31" badge. Strip the badge and the silhouette is just a folded square — same as Drive.
    Wallet is an abstract blob with a coin. The coin carries the meaning; the container shape doesn't.
    Meet is a folded purple shape. No video, no camera, no people, no conversation cue.
    Lumo is a cat. Cute, but unrelated to AI assistance — purely a mascot, no functional signal.

    Proton has built a system where the gradient is the message and the shape is decoration. This is inverted. In functional iconography, shape carries meaning and color is the brand layer applied on top. The current system has a strong brand layer with no functional layer underneath, which is why every icon feels interchangeable.
    4. Inconsistent visual treatment
    The set isn't even internally consistent in approach:

    Calendar is a 3D-perspective mockup with a date badge — a literal app screenshot rendered as an icon.
    Docs and Sheets are flat, document-style glyphs with implied paper texture.
    VPN, Pass are flat geometric primitives.
    Mail, Drive, Meet, Wallet are gradient-on-flat-shape compositions.
    Lumo is an illustrated character.

    Five different visual treatments across ten icons. The set doesn't read as a designed family — it reads as artwork accumulated over time without a unifying system. Compare to Apple's macOS or Microsoft 365: every icon in those suites follows a single, declared visual language.
    5. The "New" badges expose the deeper issue
    Three icons carry "New" badges (Sheets, Lumo, Meet). The badges are doing recognition work the icons themselves should be doing. If users could identify apps by their icons, they wouldn't need badges to find the new ones — the unfamiliar shape would be the signal.
    What a fix looks like

    Assign each app a dominant hue. Keep the gradient style; vary the base color. Mail purple, Calendar blue, Drive magenta, VPN green, Pass orange, Wallet gold, Meet teal, Lumo violet. Same family, distinguishable at 16px.
    Redraw the abstract glyphs to carry function. Pass → key or vault. VPN → shield or globe. Calendar → actual date grid, not a folded square. Meet → camera or speech bubble.
    Pick one visual treatment and apply it everywhere. Either flat geometric, or document-style with implied depth, or illustrated. Not all three. Lumo's illustrated cat is particularly out of place.
    Audit silhouette differentiation explicitly. Lay all icons out at 16px in monochrome. If any two are confusable in that test, redesign them.

    Bottom line
    The Proton icon set has strong individual aesthetic execution and weak system-level design thinking. The gradients are well-crafted; the system they sit inside doesn't function. This is fixable — Docs and Sheets show the design team has the capability — but it requires accepting that brand cohesion was over-prioritized at the expense of recognition, and rebalancing the system accordingly.
    Worth doing before adding the eleventh app to the suite, because each new icon added to the current system makes the recognition problem incrementally worse.

19. Subject: Trust is Broken: Ignoring Customers Who Ask for Honesty

    Hi Proton Team,

    I am writing this as a paying customer (Unlimited + Lumo+) who believes in the mission of Proton. But right now, that belief is being tested by a pattern of behavior that is deeply damaging to the one thing Proton claims to value most: Trust.

    The Pattern of Dismissal Every time a customer asks a simple, honest question—"Where is the server-side open source code?" or "Why doesn't the personalization feature work?"—they are met with silence, deflection, or the implication that they are the ones who misunderstood.

    Customers are treated as if it is their fault for believing:

    The marketing slogans ("All Apps Open Source").
    The mission statements ("Privacy for Everyone").
    The CEO's words and the CERN scientist origins.
    The carefully curated reviews and the promise of Swiss privacy laws.
    

    When a user asks, "Where is the code?", they aren't asking because they know it doesn't exist. They are asking because they hope it does, or they want to understand the reality. Asking a question is not an admission of ignorance; it is an act of trust.

    The Cost of Silence Proton's response to these questions is often to ignore the person asking. To act as if they don't exist. To continue selling "Open Source" without ever clarifying that it is partial.

    This is dangerous.

    One person asking is one person too many. If a company has to hide the truth from even one user, it has failed its mission.
    Trust is the product. Data is just the commodity. Without trust, no one invests, no one subscribes, and the company collapses.
    Hiding behind "Industry Knowledge" is a lie. You cannot claim to serve "everyone" while only speaking the language of "experts."
    

    The Double Standard Proton sued Apple for hiding details and manipulating users. But Proton is doing the exact same thing:

    Apple hides fees in fine print; Proton hides "partial open source" in terms of service.
    Apple sells features that don't work as advertised; Proton sells "Personalization" that is a placebo.
    Apple ignores the average user's confusion; Proton ignores the customer who asks for the code.
    

    The Demand Stop ignoring the questions. Stop treating honest inquiries as if they are attacks.

    Answer the question: "Our server-side code is proprietary. Here is why, and here is how we secure it."
    Admit the limitation: "The personalization feature is currently experimental and may not fully work yet."
    Respect the user: Treat the 90% of non-technical users with the same dignity as the 10% of experts.
    

    If Proton truly believes that "trust" is the most valuable thing on earth, then prove it. Prove it by being honest when it's inconvenient. Prove it by answering the questions you don't want to answer.

    Because right now, the silence is louder than the marketing. And silence kills trust.

20. Subject: "No Warranty" and "Not Responsible for Accuracy" — The Loophole That Voids Every Promise

    Hi Proton Team,

    There is a section in Proton's agreements that most users will never read, but it fundamentally undermines everything they were sold on:

    "No warranty." "Not responsible for accuracy."

    These clauses mean that every promise Proton makes — about protecting your data, about encryption, about open source, about features working — comes with a legal escape hatch. If something goes wrong, if a feature doesn't work, if accuracy fails, the company has already protected itself. The user has no recourse.

    The Playbook This isn't unique to Proton. It's standard corporate practice. But Proton isn't supposed to be standard. Here's how the pattern works:

    Make bold claims in marketing. "All apps open source." "Privacy for everyone." "Personalize your AI." These are the promises that convince people to sign up and pay.
    
    Neutralize those claims in the agreement. "No warranty." "Not responsible for accuracy." These are the legal erasers that make the promises unenforceable.
    
    When called out, reword — don't fix. The loophole stays. It just gets harder to find. Spread it across multiple documents. Use plain language that sounds friendly but still means the same thing. The words shift; the protection for the corporation does not.
    
    Call it "normal business." Because it is. Every company does this. But Proton is not every company — or at least, that's what the marketing says.
    

    Plain Language as a Weapon Here's what makes this especially insidious: the same "plain language" that is supposed to empower users is used to disarm them.

    On the marketing side, "open source" means freedom and transparency. On the legal side, it means whatever the corporation needs it to mean. On the marketing side, "personalization" means the AI adapts to you. On the legal side, "no warranty" means it doesn't have to.

    The words are the same. The meaning shifts depending on which side of the screen you're on.

    And when the company decides the meaning needs to shift again? They change the terms. On the fly. Without asking. Because the agreement already gave them that right.

    The Question for Proton If Proton truly believes it is different from Big Tech, then why does it use the exact same legal architecture as Big Tech?

    The same "no warranty" clauses.
    The same "not responsible for accuracy" disclaimers.
    The same right to change terms unilaterally.
    The same pattern of bold promises neutralized by fine print.
    

    Proton didn't invent this playbook. But Proton chose to use it. And while using it, Proton also chose to criticize Apple for doing the same thing.

    The Ask I'm not asking Proton to eliminate all legal protections. I understand why they exist. I'm asking Proton to acknowledge the contradiction:

    You cannot claim to be fundamentally different while using the exact same legal framework as the companies you criticize. Either the promises mean something — and are backed by more than marketing — or they don't. And if they don't, say that clearly. Upfront. On the homepage. Not buried in section 14 of a document no one reads.

    Trust isn't built by what you promise in bold text. It's built by what you're willing to stand behind when things go wrong.

    Right now, the agreements say Proton stands behind nothing. That should concern Proton more than it concerns its users.
