Proton is about privacy. This goes totally against it.
Also, it's technically not feasible at all! You may integrate an image with a unique URL to trick the receiver, but if its client is not loading images you would not get notified. The only systems allowing that are email providers that provide the feature for its own users (e.g. outlook accounts sending emails to other outlook accounts), and they can do that because they know everything a user does.

This proposal looks very similar to https://protonmail.uservoice.com/forums/932839-proton-drive/suggestions/43582125-protondrive-api .
I have the feeling users are spreading votes on more tickets rather than concentrating the effort on one.

This would be a really great feature! It would allow to easily check differences with local files: only look at the checksum on protondive rather than downloading and compute the checksum. This would also allow proton to save bandwidth.

Simply some rest API would be enough, then it would allow people to hook in the programming/scripting language they want

It would also be nice to specify "send as" with an alias (`+` SMTP feature).
My address is something@protonmail.com , sometimes I subscribe to websites with the email "something+websitename@protonmail.com" to track future spam. But sometimes they ask me to email them from my account's email, and I can't do that.
