This is part of the autofill improvement, which is ongoing, this was highlighted in the recent Roadmap: https://proton.me/blog/pass-roadmap-spring-summer-2026
We should have a significant enhancement via iframe coming soon.

Partially rolled out, as per: https://proton.me/support/pass-offline-access
As per the Spring/Summer Roadmap this will extend out to the Pass Extension: https://proton.me/blog/pass-roadmap-spring-summer-2026

It is unbelievable that the desktop app is secured by pin, password or fingerprint, but the browser extension can be opened just like that and all data can be viewed.
I am of the same opinion as afon:
The browser extension should merely used to trigger the desktop app and autofill content, while all operations are handled within the desktop app.
It ensures that the data on the local computer is stored in a single location, rather than having one copy in the desktop app and another in the extension (even if it’s encrypted). This also results in faster response times.
