At this stage, I can't recommend Proton Drive as a photo app to anyone. And for many, this is a deal-breaker to move their files overall from other systems (google,apple, dropbox...)
It's just too painful. As a user, I expect to be able to view/scroll my photos seemlessly, in order to have the same customer experience as with any other photo app (google photos, or iPhotos notably).
Migrating photos seemlessly to Proton Drive, because of this extremely poor CX, can't possibly be considered as an incentive to drive people away from google/apple ecosystems.

So many of my family and friends are refusing to switch from google photos to Proton because they see how horrible the drive photo experience is.
On mobile, you scroll down to see older photos, they take almost 10 seconds to load your history ! In a browser it's slightly better, 2 seconds still !
Open google photos or even Ente: it's almost instant, it feels you are scrolling your camera roll in local.
Displaying and navigating through photos is key to users, proton drive photos right now sacrifices way too much comfort for security. I can't possibly recommend it to anyone, and actually love the rest of proton products. But recommending "switch from google to proton, but for your photos I recommrend you pay Ente storage" is just ridiculous
