ProtonMail could be the future of the internet - mainstream and saturate the market, but only if..
I think ProtonMail has an opportunity to become bigger than gmail and other mainstream email providers, but only if you change your branding and marketing.
I seriously want to love ProtonMail more because I believe in privacy and security, but when I land on the site for the first time, it doesn't sell me.
You have to get into the business of helping people feel attracted to you and make your website about them.
For instance, when I land on your website and I see it's based in Switzerland, I don't care. I say that not to be mean, but as honest feedback about what does and does not appeal to me as a potential user who would love to sign up and pass you on to friends, but the current state of your marketing and branding doesn't allow me to do that.
I think you should directly compete as an alternative to gmail who genuinely cares about data privacy and becoming the future of bringing privacy and security to the internet.
Start with your WHY. As Simon Sinek says, "People don't buy what you do they buy why you do it."
I'd love to see your own version of one of these 2-3 minute Why Story videos that captures the genuine humans who want to do good who are behind this project:
With movies like The Social Dilemna and many TED Talk talking about data security and how we're manipulated, partnerships could be made to make ProtonMail as household a name as Google.
