Zapier Integration
Generally it would be great to see ProtonMail available in Zapier, particularly with support for Triggers like when new Contacts are found in ProtonMail.
Example use case:
Paid user, using ProtonMail for both personal and business and with respective alias for each. Whenever an email from a new Contact hits the Inbox, addressed to user's business alias, user wants to then do X (where X could be any number of things, using other services).

Automatic Successful Delivery Confirmation
After sending an email with protonmail, you will see a message that the email was sent, but that doesn't mean it was actually delivered or received, (which by the way is not the same as opened - that information is private to the recipient).
I have sent emails with protonmail that arrived much later than they were sent, even weeks! Appointments have gone amiss because of this. Also, there is always a chance that an email will never arrive at the destination.
It would be good to have a visible SIGN or checkmark in the sent email list that CONFIRMS time and date of delivery. Again, this is not the same as knowing if it was opened by the recipient which is private.
A similar feature exists in Yandex.com. On the page to compose an email there is a button that says 'notify me'. If this option was selected and the mail has arrived, you will get a "Successful Delivery Report" in the form of an email. This has proven to be very useful when a server of the reciptient was down, for instance.
A 'notify me' button is not ideal. A permanent or default setting would be better, because there are always times you forget to select the button. To receive the confirmation as a separate email is also not the ideal because it will easily overcrowd the list of emails and results in some unnecessary cleaning work.

Custom Expiration / After-Date Trigger for Received Emails
I've always wanted the ability to set a custom expiration for received emails, and maybe ProtonMail can make this a reality.
The idea is that you could set a date&time at which an email you received would be automatically archived, deleted, or labelled. This would be incredibly useful for things like email offers w/ expiration dates (so that they are deleted after they expire) or past events (so that they can be automatically archived after the date has passed) or labelling emails for followup (e.g., if someone said that they would get back to you in a week).

It would be nice to be able to read emails in plain text (with an option to be the default mode).

Font size options on iOS (including increasing the size)
An option to resize font would improve usablity very much (iOS version).
Basically you should do more interface polishing; even this form is clumsy on an iphone.76 votes -
Use quantum hard cryptography
The general consensus currently is that nation states will have quantum computers capable of breaking today's commonly used asymmetric cryptosystems in the next 15 years[1], and potentially before then. And there is currently at least one major nation state with limited quantum computing capability actively using it to accelerate a small class of attacks.
Last year NIST released an advisory on quantum computing, and expressed urgency in the matter[2]. The NSA has also released an advisory[3].
The fact is that several nation states are collecting nearly all data on the Internet in bulk and storing it. In a few years they will also be able to decrypt it. Defending against quantum computing is now necessary when defending against mass surveillance, and this certainly fits within ProtonMail's threat model.
We need to start moving toward post quantum crypto now. It will take time and our data is already at risk. ProtonMail should use quantum hard crypto by default wherever possible.

Auto delete emails after x days (in inbox and other folders)
Auto delete after x days.....
1) from a Information control point of view, it could be useful to have a maximum life of all mails before being auto deleted;
2) For long term use the space is limited and may fill up, especially if used with large attachments.
Being able to auto-delete emails after x days would help ensure that it does not fill up.The number of days must be customisable per account as one size will not fit all!

Custom swipe gestures
While the options now are hardcoded to "Trash" or "Archive" an email, if swiped from the left or right respectively, the power for the user to choose from the myriad of existing features should be offered at a custom level.
I would like to "Mark As Unread" for example, this feature presently exists and thus should be a selectable option if it fits my workflow better.

Allow android contacts app access to proton contacts list, like signal
I'm transitioning from gmail (coincidentally, doing just as you recommend) but I hit a snag: My android phone's contacts app can't sync to my proton account. (Though it CAN sync to signal, interestingly...) This is keeping me from cutting the umbilical cord between me and google.

Chrome / Firefox add-on
Even the mailbox encrypted, it is possible to subvert the code in your servers - or force ProtonMail to subvert it by court order - to capture users mailbox password and therefore gain access to emails. This is exactly how the HushMail got "busted" some time ago, feeding a specified user a subverted code, that captured the users password to them!
Systems like BlockChain Wallet use browser add-ons to prevent this from happening. Ever. Since the add-on is used to handle ALL communications from and to the servers, and it decrypts the content from the servers, it does not matter whether the server is backdoored (from one reason or another)! It would not matter how you would subvert the code in ProtonMail servers, since add-on would handle all these things inside users computer - and no critical information would ever, never, be sent to ProtonMail servers no matter how bad code would be installed in ProtonMail servers.
Since anyone can download and verify the add-on, there is hardly possibility to install any kind of backdoor there - and absolutely no way to install backdoor there for a specific user.

unread mailbox or icons
For accessibility reasons an unread box or a more visually distinct way of seeing which emails are unread would be helpful. When most emails are read and only one or two are unread it is difficult to see find the unread mail. I need an icon, different color or very different font to see the difference. More accessibility features in general - (dyslexic font), high contrast, etc.

Sticky mail action buttons
The buttons to perform actions on current mail - such as reply, reply all, ... - should stick to the top if the content is long enough to scroll the buttons out of the viewport of the mail content.

iPad iOS Version rather than stretched iPhone version please.
Please make an iOS version that works for the iPad. The current iOS is the same resolution for the iPhone stretched out that has a cumbersome keyboard that stretches across the whole email view. The view can be a lot more effective and incorporate a higher resolution on the iPad. Effectively the app looks terrible and doesn't utilise the possibilities of an iPad Screen.

FILTER DOMAINS
The option to filter entire DOMAINS on incoming emails should be available to ALL ProtonMail users (even those with a basic free account), since some domains are riddled with phishers, spam, and hackers (e.g. Yahoo & Outlook, in my experience). I think the SECURITY of ProtonMail is the main incentive for people to get an account in the first place, and the more people switch the more will donate and the better the services we will all get, and sooner too! Reserving what I consider a "modest" security feature exclusively for paying users will not benefit ProtonMail (and all of us users) as quickly. There are plenty of other great features that could be reserved to paying users that are less "essential" to attracting people to ProtonMail in the first place. Thank you for providing the excellent service that you do which protects and preserves human dignity online - a truly noble and important work in these trying times.

I want to be able to write emails in markdown rather then a typical composer. Its cleaner, easier and readable. It could give the edge when sending a email.

Improve related email handling in conversation view
Conversation view works well for emails except when there is a related email subject that repeats over months.
For instance, I receive emails a few times a month around the same time/date, that all have the same subject line. This happens at least once a month.
These emails are archived in case I need to reference them later.
Ideally, there should be different logic built around this. Perhaps if it's an automated message that appears over and over, at some point it won't "attach" itself to the numerous messages before it.
However, if it is a conversation, this could be handled differently. If John Doe and I have a lengthy email conversation where one email is sent or received every few weeks or months in the email thread, these should remain attached.
