1. Show server latency

   without knowing if I'll get good latency makes people hesitant to subscribe for premium plans. Let people browse the servers and see the latency they get even if it's locked out for free users.

2. Add setting "allow LAN connected" for linux

   Please add the setting to "allow LAN connections" for Linux while connected to vpn. Turning the vpn off to use the printer is no fun.

3. Detect DNS leak and warn ProtonVPN users

   An encrypted DNS (Called DoH - DNS over https) is said by you (in the later linked article) to "prevents our software from being able to see the DNS queries. This makes it very hard to block or reroute them."
   causing DNS leak, which can be considered a serious privacy compromise IMO.

   It seems to be too severe not to warn user about it in case it is doable from the side of your application. I guess your app tries to read the DNS request and if is encrypted, it fails and can do some action, like displaying a warning inside a main ProtonVPN page, linking user to a tutorial on how to fix it ( https://protonvpn.com/support/dns-leaks-privacy/#dns-over-https or similar ).

4. Add QUIC Obfuscation for WireGuard

   Add QUIC obfuscation for WireGuard to help users bypass firewalls and censorship. This feature was recently added to Mullvad (September 9, 2025) and would be a great solution that would also address other requests for obfuscation on The Voice of the Proton Community.

5. Split tunneling, select which app connects through which country

   It would be great if Proton VPN split tunneling worked so that I can select which app's traffic is routed through whic country. For example, I'd like to select that Youtube goes through Moldova, Firefox through Netherlands, banking app through Germany etc. This could maybe be built into profiles as well so I can quickly set up even different split tunneling scenarios.

6. Add a censorship-resitant technology such as V2RAY or UPD-over-TCP.

   Mullvad VPN uses Wireguard obfuscation (UDP2TCP). IVPN on iOS uses V2RAY. Those protocols allows to reliably bypass censorship. Proton on the other hand only has Stealth, which is unreliable and often disconnects.

   Request : Add a censorship-resitant technology such as V2RAY or UPD-over-TCP.

7. Option to exclude free servers (for subscribers)

   Somewhere in the settings or connection page, please provide a way for paid subscribers to exclude connecting to FREE servers when not selecting a specific server.

10. Show Hosting Provider Info in Server List

    Please add hosting provider info directly in the ProtonVPN app, displayed alongside the server name (e.g. PL#81 – DataCamp).

    Or even better, add categories for hosting providers, just like cities currently are, so users can quickly find all servers from a specific provider that work best with their ISP.

    For example, my ISP performance varies by provider:
    
    - Excellent with Datacamp Limited (DataPacket)
    - Decent with PV-SL-HOSTED-Warsaw-Network
    - Terrible with M247

    Currently, I have to connect to multiple servers and check my IP info to find a provider that works well, which wastes several minutes and is very annoying.

    Mullvad shows hosting provider info, but only on their website, which isn’t ideal.

    ProtonVPN should make this visible directly in-app.

    This feature would save time, improve usability, and make server selection much clearer.

11. Mock gps

    A vpn feature known usually as mock GPS.
    It would have different options such as masking your GPS location to match your vpn ip address or to a specific location.

    Such as the browser extension cloaq on desktop or the Mock GPS Location app on the Play Store.
    There is also a simple version included in Surfshark that only uses the matching option.

12. Linux app for arm64 GUI and CLI

    Hello, like many users, I use a low-power ARM64 machine for P2P downloads via Torrent. The problem is that there isn't a Linux ARM64 application yet, which prevents me from setting up the Port Forwarding as explained in the guides, since I have to use it through WireGuard instead of the official app.Is this release planned? Thanks.

14. Android: Proton VPN is functionally worthless for me unless I can turn on kill switch while split tunneling is enabled.

    I'll explain the steps I followed on my Android phone:

    1. I got ProtonVPN, and enabled kill switch to protect myself from data leaks.
    2. I noticed that certain apps (like my bank app and music app for example) didn't work while Proton VPN was enabled.
    3. I enabled split tunneling and created exceptions so that apps like my bank app and music app didn't go through the VPN.
    4. I enabled kill switch, and found out that split tunneling didn't work.
    5. In order to use my bank app, my music app, or others, I HAD to turn off kill switch. I very very very much want kill switch to be on. I am in a politically sensitive area. I want my bank app and music app and the others to continue to work while kill switch prevents non-excepted apps' traffic to be FORCED to go through the VPN.
    6. As it is, I have to choose between having kill switch on (meaning I'm unable to use many of my apps which don't work through the VPN) or having kill switch off (meaning that if for some reason Proton VPN isn't working, all of my traffic is going through my actual IP address without VPN protection).

    Well it finally happened. Since for some reason Android doesn't always keep Proton VPN working, sometimes it's off even when I didn't turn it off, and a company noticed that sometimes my traffic goes through VPN and sometimes it doesn't. I got permanently banned from a service I had used for over a decade because of this bug in Proton VPN.

    For paying so much money, this is a feature that should be working. Come on, Proton! You have awesome products! I love them for the most part. But this makes Proton VPN on Android functionally worthless. I have to either have kill switch off, in which case I keep not realizing that Proton VPN isn't working and keep endangering myself; or I can have kill switch on, in which case I just lose the ability to use many apps that won't work through the VPN connection. I have to turn off Proton VPN entirely when using those apps, and in that case I can't use an app requiring a VPN and an app requiring no VPN at the same time.

    I really need this feature if I'm going to consider continuing to use ProtonVPN. Competitor products generally seem to have this feature. I don't want to jump switch, but this is pretty urgent.

    Please, Proton. This isn't just for convenience. For those of us in countries where it's not safe to browse without VPN, we NEED Proton VPN to support kill switch for all VPN-protected apps while split-tunneled apps are allowed to have their direct connections.

    In politically sensitive countries, this literally may be the difference between people being arrested or not.

    (and just to throw this out there, I'm not doing anything that would be considered illegal in democratic countries)

15. Proton VPN’s kill-switch isn’t Direct-Boot aware on GrapheneOS

    On GrapheneOS, the updater runs before first unlock (BFU) to grab security patches, but Proton VPN’s kill-switch isn’t Direct-Boot aware. Enabling it brings up the VPN UI BFU, yet no network ever connects, so updates fail until you unlock the device.

    Repro:

    Install Proton VPN on GrapheneOS (e.g. Pixel 6 Pro 2025.05.15)

    Turn on kill-switch

    Reboot and stay at lock screen

    Watch the BFU updater time out for lack of network

    Impact:
    Devices miss critical patches until next unlock, extending exposure to exploits.

    Fix:
    • Mark the VPN service as android:directBootAware="true" in AndroidManifest.xml
    • Move its config/certs into Device-Protected Storage for BFU access

16. Fix Custom DNS on Linux and Windows

    Custom DNS on Linux and Windows Does not work. The custom DNS address is ignored, and DNS requests are still sent via Proton servers.

    It works on Android (although after some time it seems to revert to Proton DNS servers until I disconnect and reconnect, when it starts working again).

    This needs resolving please.

18. Netshield ad blocker - add possibility to whitelist domains/subdomains

    I need to deactivate the ad-blocker in Netshield when I visit certain websites (eg. Google Analytics). Please add the possibility to whitelist some domains/subdomains so we don't have to disable this feature.

19. Submit Linux package updates in official distro repos

    Proton VPN is open source and uses well-known and established components of the NetworkManager stack. Due to these two things, there is virtually nothing standing in the way of the Proton VPN team from building and submitting packages officially to Linux distributions like Fedora, Debian, Ubuntu, EPEL, etc. Proton VPN is further enhanced by packaging upstream by increasing the availability of Proton VPN software packages in the global software package mirroring network (deterring censorship) and benefiting from improved transparency and openness by building packages through distribution-supported build systems, which are often reproducible.

    The policies of most distros are friendly to this since the Proton VPN Linux pieces use Open Source licenses. A community-supported Fedora Proton packaging SIG already exists.

    Implementing this is both a matter of technical expertise but also being able to navigate and collaborate with other communities. Proton engineers would submit package updates directly to Linux build systems and benefit from being stakeholders in the distribution end of software production. This also gets Proton engineers closer to user feedback and bug reports.

    (Not to be biased, but I get copied on bug reports for Proton VPN bugs in Fedora and I am not always sure how to best route that feedback from distro users back to upstream developers.)

    One idea for the Proton-hosted repos is that they could still be provided, but for beta or experimental users. This way, Proton still maintains a mechanism for shipping updates extremely fast to end users without distro build systems and update policies, but the users who participate with those repos could be closer to the in-development versions, while users subscribed to updates on their favorite distros would receive them normally through stable update repos.
