2. Reconnect desktop app to existing folder

   Hi,
   I wanted to pull an offline backup for my and my wives Drive.
   I synced my folder to an external drive, switched users in the app to my wife, synced to external drive and then...
   I couldn't switch back to the big online folder of my account, because you can only switch to an empty folder. So I had to download everything in my account again.
   And the next time I want to pull a backup on my wives account I'm back to the problem.
   I created a second Windows account for her now and never switch users in the app...
   But this is really weird and was different and better in Google Drive iirc.

4. Create the best Team Productivity Suite Ever Existed (actionable ideas to add Chat, Sheets, Slides, etc.)

   Proton is the best email service ever existed. Period.

   However, its biggest flaw against competitors is that email is the least used tool for collaboration nowadays, and Proton lacks integration with most other tools due to various factors, with the most obvious being its completely different concept for security and data ownership.

   So, how can Proton be better than MS Office and GWorkspace?

   Here are some ideas that I think can be created (relatively) easily.

   1. ProtonOffice - Integrate OnlyOffice in Proton Drive and whitelabel it (they offer this possibility i think. (Or even better- acquire them and rebrand them to ProtonOffice :)) OnlyOffice is the best alternative to MSOffice and the most compatible with it (which is crucial, when a company wants to have a good OSS-based and secure tools but at the same time to keep being "compatible" with the rest of the world that unfortunately uses MSOffice). The tools for Docs, Sheets, Slides, PDF, and Markdown are there. No need to invent the wheel. Integrate them into Proton Drive and offer a real document collaboration suite.
   2. ProtonChat - Create a Matrix/Element-based team chat/collaboration service. Matrix is the best service for secure, encrypted chat in the world, but it lacks UX in all possible ways, making it difficult for a small to mid-size team to use it effectively. (the way they offer their services, the way to install and maintain it. It would be more than great to have a Matrix-based chat with Proton UX and Proton hosting out of the box with the Proton Business Suite.
   3. Proton Identity + OAuth - this is self-explanatory, the last missing piece of the puzzle to have a complete suite for SMBs that can fully replace O365 and G-Workspace.

   These 3 things are crucial for a complete business suite. I have a personal account in Proton myself, and I adore it. However, the lack of true document collaboration and chat is what stops me from migrating my business to Proton, and I am sure that there are many businesses with the same obstacle. The ideas above propose a way to ship them as quickly as possible without compromising the Proton concepts. There will be work, of course, to integrate them properly, but it is still much easier and faster than inventing the wheel from scratch and developing all these tools.

5. Manual sync

   It would be great e.g. for photo/video backup on phones, if we could manually trigger syncing of data from the phone to Drive. It's not everything I need synced; could be I take a funny photo to send to a loved one, but it's not something I want to waste drive storage on.

6. file manager

   A file manager based on proton, the default android file manager is a mess and even google files is pretty lame and not easily navigated, on windows "files" app is a good alternative for file manager and on mac the default is pretty decent and there is eagle both for mac and windows but it is not available for android or ios, it would be good to see something like eagle for phones and computers both integrated with proton drive like icloud on ios and mac

8. chromebook

   Please add Chromebook's to the list of available devices that can sync files. I don't want to have to sit and upload every folder/file from the web interface or app as it is very time consuming. Having PD sync with Chromebooks would be very beneficial, especially to those of us who are trying to DeGoogle and only have access to a Chromebook.

9. Photo Sync - Customizable time table

   Currently, Proton Drive (Photos) allows users to back up their photos, including over mobile data, and specifically select where they are uploaded from. But, daily, many users take pictures or screenshots to send to friends and family only to delete them minutes later. Or, take multiple pictures of a single event just to pick out what they like the most and delete the rest. If users don't go into their photo backup regularly, it can be swamped with tons of pictures that users need to parse through and get rid of.

   Would it be possible to allow users to select a timetable/schedule to upload their pictures and reduce clutter and constant maintenance?

   Example:

   Settings menu > Photo backup > Enable photo backup.
   A grayed-out dropdown menu underneath is enabled with the following options:
   - Automatic (default)
   - Every 1 hour
   - Every 24 hours
   - Every 7 days
   - Every 30 days

10. Photos section - let us choose what types of files will be backed up

    When some photos in my iPhone gallery has been for example color corrected or copped the backup tends to include unmodified original as well as modified version and it is quite annoying when I’m interested to have only modified version, if you would give us some settings menu with checkboxes where we can choose if unmodified originals should be backed up it would be nice, and there is room for more settings like live photos or maybe someone would want to exclude screenshots or videos,..and cool setting might be to backup only photos older than XY days because I tend to make a lot of temporary photos that I delete after a while and they would make it to my backup eventually and this would solve it perfectly

11. Allow Proton Drive to use my smartphone's office app

    Other drives like Onedrive and Google Drive give the option to use the smartphone's own office apps to open documents, spreadsheets, slides, etc...
    I really miss that as I cannot open my sheets, for example, unless I download them. And if I make a change in them, then I have to upload it to the Proton Drive afterwards.
    Sorry, but just to be clear. In those other drives like Onedrive, you do not need to download the sheet in other to open it and if you edit the sheet, then Onedrive automatically replace the older version as you save the edited sheet.
    If you implement this, it would also release the pressure on the enhancement of Proton Docs, as users could just use some other office in their phone like Word and Libreoffice as you work more on Proton Docs and (I hope) Proton Sheets.

    Current implementation: Currently, when dealing with albums in Proton Drive on mobile devices, users must manually tap each image to select them and add them to an album. Same applies also when selecting images in other views, regardless if intention is to add them to an album or not.

    Issue: This process can be cumbersome, especially when dealing with a large number of images spread across multiple rows. The lack of a streamlined selection method makes it time-consuming to organize photos efficiently.

    Proposal: It would be beneficial to introduce a more intuitive way to select multiple images. On mobile devices, a gesture-based selection feature such as long presses, sliding, or other, allowing quickly selecting multiples of adjacent images.

13. Templates structure in Proton docs

    I need to create the same page structure in proton docs multiple times to ensure that i am not missing any element in my report writing.
    It will be extremely productive, if a template could be saved for such requirement and then i just click that template and save my 7 to 9 clicks including the font and the size specifications.

14. Add EXIF data "CreationDate" if not exists

    Images and videos which do not have a "CreationDate" tag in its EXIF data heavily rely on the "DateLastChanged" tag in order to be sorted correctly. WhatsApp for instance does not ship that CreationDate tag with its media files.
    This leads to the problem that images without this important EXIF data entry cannot be downloaded without the loss of any date information (because all other tags are changed to todays date).

    The idea is to set the "CreationDate" EXIF data if a media file does not have it at download time. It should use the "DateLastChanged" date for that. That way all images do have the right date information for correct sorting.

    Images and videos which do not have a "CreationDate" tag in its EXIF data heavily rely on the "DateLastChanged" tag in order to be sorted correctly. WhatsApp for instance does not ship that CreationDate tag with its media files.

15. Backup macOS Photos to photos on drive

    Would be great if the photos and albums in my photos app on my mac are backuped to drive photos. So then iOS phots are backup and macOS photos are backuped (I do not use icloud anymore because I do not trust Apple anymore). In this way I can have all my photos in 1 place.

16. Unable to sync photos backed up to ProtonDrive with PC

    When I back up photos to ProtonDrive, they don't sync with the desktop app, so I can't use or view them locally on my PC or Mac.

    I would like to be able to synchronize the photos I have backed up to Photo with my PC or Mac folders. It's a pain to have to move and copy them manually.

    I have to view them online every time, and it takes a long time for thumbnails to display, which is very inconvenient. Thumbnails are cached to a certain extent, but even those cached thumbnails are slow to display.

17. I want to back up only recent photos on my iPhone.

    When I turn on iPhone photo backup, all the photos in my iPhone's photo library are backed up.
    Let me select the album so that I can back up only Recent Photos.
    Android already allows you to specify which albums (folders) to back up.

    My iPhone's photo library contains photos synced from my local macOS environment, but I don't need to back these up.

    • When sharing a .vcf contact file via Proton Drive, the preview page expands the entire vCard text, making it hard for non‑technical recipients to locate the download button.
    • Desired behavior: Show a generic file‑icon with a prominent “Download” button (similar to how PDFs or images are presented), or automatically trigger a download for pure data files.

19. Enable option to untar/decompress tar[.gz] archives

    Uploading a lot of files is not efficient. At least in my experience, it might take days to upload 10K+ small files distributed in multiple directories.

    Would it be possible to allow the user to decompress/untar uploaded single/multiple .tar archives ? This might help uploading data faster (multiple files in a tar archive). Implied is I guess an increased file size limit.
