1. Download and Upload speed limiter

   In EU most of the countries has bad internet over ASDL, so limiting upload and download speed while syncing files is important, because to big upload can kill whole home network download and vice versa. For example on speed asdl like I have I can upload 2000Kb/s but without limit it can go up to 2300kb/s which kills my internet connection. So I can only use cloud disks which had these limiters build in. For example, Mega, Dropbox, OneDrive and Tresorit has it, but not proton.

2. Proton Drive’s session management - Persistent login session

   Hi Proton Team and Community,

   I would like to raise a security-related suggestion regarding Proton Drive’s session management.

   Currently, Proton Drive maintains a persistent login session, which is convenient from a usability standpoint. However, in certain scenarios, especially when dealing with sensitive or confidential documents, this behavior can pose a security risk.

   Unlike tools such as Cryptomator, which require authentication (e.g., PIN or password) every time the application is accessed, Proton Drive does not currently offer an option for an additional local authentication layer or automatic lock on device access.

   You guys already do this with proton pass.

   Suggestion:
   It would be highly valuable to have an optional feature such as:

   A local PIN or password lock when opening Proton Drive
   An auto-lock after inactivity (configurable timeout)
   A requirement to re-authenticate on device unlock or app reopen

   This would significantly enhance security, particularly for:

   Shared or occasionally accessed devices
   Work environments handling sensitive data
   Users who prioritize stricter session control over convenience

   Importantly, this should be an optional setting, allowing users to choose between convenience and stricter access control.

   I believe this feature would align well with Proton’s strong privacy and security positioning.

3. Ensure I can select and upload multiple files and folders at once, without having to upload files one by one (mobile)

   Currently the mobile app on IpadOS and Android doesn’t support the upload and of an entire folder of files or photos. It also doesn’t support an easy way to multi-select files via a swipe, like the Os prescribes.

   Use case: When I export photos from Lightroom I want to upload them in bulk. Currently, on the web, I can use the OS-Level multi-select behavior to launch an upload of an entire folder. On the apps this is not possible, especially on IpadOS this functionality is very rudimentary. Without this feature, the apps are useless for me.

4. I'd like to share a photoalbum.

   I'm a hobby-photographer and i mainly bought proton drive to share pictures.
   The problem is, when uploading pictures as files, i can share them, but i can not view a prewiev on my phone, without having to download them. On the other side, when i upload them as pictures, i can not share them easily with friends. I want to share a link, from which they can view and download the pictures, without having to create an account on proton.

   This is just stupid and should not be that hard.

5. Tables on iOS are excessively narrow

   Tables that look fine on other devices are shrunk to an excessively small width on iOS devices in the Proton Drive app as well as in the Browser (tested with Safari and Firefox). In a two-column table, the width is so small that line breaks are added even for short words.

6. I need a way to stop keep getting a Sync Issue Alert for a Lock FIle that is being used by Another App.

   Since others have asked for an "Ignore Files" feature and they still haven't gotten it, I need some way to get Proton Drive to stop nagging me with ALERTS about files that WILL NOT SYNC because they are locked (or for any other reason.)

   How about a way to DISMISS an ALERT? How about PERMANENTLY for a given file?

   Otherwise other, more vital alerts and/or other notifications might get lost amongst all the noise.

7. Double-click to open a shared Proton Doc

   Opening a shared Proton Doc – In the web UI (https://drive.proton.me), locate the shared document, double‑click the title or the blue Doc icon (or select the file and press Enter/right‑click → “Open in Docs”). This opens the file directly in the Proton Docs viewer. The three‑dot menu only offers download, details, copy, or remove; it does not contain the “open” command. Adding this step‑by‑step tip will help free‑account users who see only the three‑dot menu and prevent confusion.

8. Private Secure Podcast Hosting by Proton using FOSS Castopod

   I realize that someone could self-host their podcast (using free hosting software from Castopod) and distribute their podcast that way, but most Netizens are not going to go that route. I propose a podcast hosting solution that is based in a more privacy-friendly country like Switzerland.

   If Proton hosted Castopod software on their servers, that would create a private, podcast hosting option that could also be spun-up quite easily. Proton could also limit its support to the most basic set-up issues, with users accepting terms upfront that only initial configuration support will be provided by Proton while also clarifying that Proton's role is to provide private and secure hosting for the Castopod software.

10. Show upload/download status in tray icon tooltip and left click option

    When hovering over the tray icon, it would be really useful to show status information like whether something is uploading or downloading, current speed, how much is completed, and how much is left.

    There’s a lot of useful info that could live there instead of the tray icon being mostly passive. This would make background activity much more transparent and actually justify having the tray icon at all.

    It would be great if the tray icon had a meaningful left-click action.

    For example, in OneDrive, left-click opens a small window showing recent uploads and current sync activity. In Proton apps, left-click on the tray icon does nothing, which feels unfinished and not very user-friendly.

    A left-click could open:
    recent uploads/downloads,
    current sync status,
    or a compact activity panel.

    Right now the tray icon exists, but interacting with it doesn’t provide any value.

11. Proton Sheets - New Feature and Improvement of an old one

    I have migrated all my files from Google Drive to Proton Drive, and am happy with the security Proton provides. However there are a few features that I found don't work in Proton Sheets that I relied on in Google Sheets.

    1. Please add a Group function in Proton Sheets - this is the Excel function where you can hide / unhide a group of rows or columns with one click. Many of my Excel sheets that I moved to Google Sheets use this functionality but this is not a feature in Proton Sheets currently.

    2. Improvement - Conditional Formatting - In Google Sheets, I can see what specific conditional formatting applies to a selected cell by right clicking on that cell, and choosing "Conditional Formatting" from the menu. What is displayed is ONLY the condition formatting rules for that selected cell. In Proton Sheets, when I do the same, it shows me a very long list of ALL conditional formatting rules across every sheet in the entire file. This is too much information and unnecessary. Please fix this by only displaying the conditional formatting rule that applies to the selected cell.

12. More granular user rights for shared albums

    Sharing an album lets you set viewing or editor rights to other users. It would be nice to:

    • let other people add and remove their own uploaded photos to the shared album, and
    • not giving them the right to remove my uploaded photos.

13. Larger folder limits

    I have several folders (associated with an application) that are syncing (or rather, failing to sync) through Proton Drive. The error message in the Drive Windows app is "Folder limit reached. To continue adding more files, create a subfolder.". I don't know how many files are in the folder, what the "limit" is, or even whether the limit is based on number of files or space occupied by the files. I don't have any control of how many files the app puts in its folders or what size they are - but I do need to sync the files between my desktop and laptop. The change I'm asking for is a larger "limit" and some documentation of the limit. Unlimited would be even better - I've barely touched my available space.

    Feature Request: Per‑App “Upload Originals” Setting on iOS

    iOS currently has a global “Keep Originals” setting, but many users avoid enabling it because they’re worried it will break compatibility with messaging apps, Windows users, or older devices. This creates a psychological barrier — people don’t want to change a global setting that affects every app on their phone.

    Because of this, cloud‑storage apps like Proton Drive end up receiving converted JPEGs instead of the original HEIC files, even when users think they’re backing up originals.

    A real example:
    A family member sent me a photo that was 1.1 MB in HEIC, but iOS converted it to a 5.3 MB JPEG before upload. The file became five times larger while losing HDR, depth, color information, and overall quality. This is exactly the kind of silent conversion that makes users think Proton Drive is degrading quality, when it’s actually iOS doing the conversion.

    A per‑app setting would solve this completely.

    Proposed per‑app options:

    Always upload originals
    The app receives the full‑quality HEIC/PNG/HDR file with no conversion.
    Convert for compatibility
    iOS provides a JPEG/SDR version when needed for cross‑platform use.
    Ask every time
    iOS prompts the user each time the app uploads a photo, letting them choose Original or Compatible.

    Why this matters

    Users avoid the global setting because they fear breaking other apps.
    Cloud‑storage apps like Proton Drive need originals for proper backups.
    This mirrors Apple’s existing per‑app permission model (Location, Camera, Photos).
    Only apps that actually upload photos would appear in the list, keeping the UI clean.
    It prevents silent HEIC → JPEG conversions that increase file size and reduce quality.
    It gives Proton Drive users confidence that their backups are truly original quality.

    Modern Android phones fully support HEIC and HEVC, so cloud services like Proton Drive do not need JPEG conversions. The current iOS behavior is outdated and unnecessary.”

    Impact

    This feature would dramatically improve the reliability of photo backups across the iOS ecosystem and would help Proton Drive compete directly with iCloud Photos by ensuring users always get true originals when they want them.

16. See favorite photos in an album

    It would be incredibly useful if I could, within an album view, filter to just the photos I've liked/favorited. I take a lot of duplicate photos, so it's hard to tell at a glance which ones are the "good" photos for a particular trip.

18. faster and reliable sync

    I need faster and reliable sync.

    I tryed to use proton drive to store my encrypted password database (keepass) but if add a new password and save the archive on my computer and after 30s 1 minute i try to reopen on my android phone i stil have the old version

    so i have to use dropbox... it works flawlessy, the same moment i save my file on a device the new version is avviable on the other but it's US based and i don't like that

    also please consider to a sorto of API for third part apps.... i use duplicati backup and i can directly save the backup on Onedrive, AWS, Gdrive and others... but not on protondrive

19. Ability to browse My Files added to Proton Drive in Proton Drive PC app

    After downloading the Proton Drive desktop app I have the ability to choose there which folders do I want to sync but to access My Files added to Proton Drive I have to go to File Explorer. I would love to have it in one place and not only have the ability to sync files from my PC through the Proton Drive desktop app but also to have there all My Files added to Proton Drive.
