I do not have WiFi at home; so unless you add cellular sync, I cannot use this very useful feature.

Hi,
it is working fine. Nice additional tool.
We can get rid of One drive, G drive, Dropbox...
Thank you.
Nicky
PS: everything would be fine with a Proton Drive client for Linux. -

Working well for me so far.
1. Why does the app need to be open for faster uploads?
2. Any meta data going up with the image file?
3. I don't see the photos in my macOS Proton Drive folder. Should I? -

Personally, I don't see this "iOS Photos backup" feature request as a request for a new image editing/tagging/etc. application.
What I need, and will consider as a perfect solution, would be to have the iOS photo library synced with a configurable folder in Proton Drive, not even renaming or trying to organize the photos in the destination folder.
I perform editing/tagging/etc. using native applications (e.g. Photos while using my iPhone/iPad and Lightroom when at my PC (where I'll have access to the synced photos in my Proton Drive).
It's a matter of "separation of concern": leave a piece of software just do what is required to perform a particular task (the backup of the iOS photo library on Proton Drive), and leave the rest to... the rest.
The need to have a configurable folder in Proton Drive as the target of the syncing arises from the need to have different devices (eg an iPhone and an iPad) synced to different folders in Proton Drive.
If and when Proton would like to offer a photo editing application (along with other "office" applications), I will consider it as an alternative to what I'm using (and like to use) right now now, but that's a totally different story.

This needs a good UI, folders, editing ( cropping / compressing ), map view from photo geolocations, and ability to share via a link.

I hope they are implementing the feature like Google Photos or Microsoft OneDrive and not like iCloud.
Google Photos and MS OneDrive you can automatically backup your photos, and if you delete them from your phone it will not be deleted from your cloud, which is extremely useful for me to clean my phone and have more space on it.
iCloud if you delete on your phone, it is also deleted on all devices and then iCloud too... which is not a solution for me (I've more than 1TB of my child photos :D, can't have all of them on my phone to keep them on the cloud, so I don't use iCloud). This is their choice of business model. -

Being able to use Ente.io as the frontend would be cool

This is one of the few limiting factors to fully commit to proton, it would be so useful! I can't wait to see this fully implemented in Proton!!!
