1. Google Takeout Import Tool for Proton Drive

   Dear Proton Team,

   I’d like to propose a new feature for Proton Drive: a dedicated Google Takeout Import Tool to streamline the process of importing data from Google Photos exports while correctly respecting the photo/video timeline.

   🛠️ Issue

   When importing videos from a Google Photos Takeout archive (photos are mostly ok), Proton Drive currently sets the file’s date based on the filesystem timestamp (e.g., when the .mp4 file was downloaded), rather than using the actual creation date stored in the accompanying .json metadata files.

   This leads to incorrect chronological ordering and loss of accurate historical context—especially for older media and large libraries.

   ✅ Suggested Solution

   Introduce a Google Takeout Import Tool in Proton Drive that:

   • Detects and parses .json metadata files included with Google Photos exports
   • Extracts photoTakenTime or creationTime values
   • Applies the correct created timestamp to the corresponding media file (photo or video)

   This ensures accurate and consistent date metadata across all imported files.

   Let’s say I have these two files in my Takeout folder:

   • VID_20170621_122134.mp4
   • VID_20170621_122134.json

   With the json file having the following content:

   When I upload a video to Proton Drive, it should use the PhotoTakenTime from the accompanying JSON file as the creation date. Without proper handling of these JSON files, the file download date (e.g., July 2, 2025) is used instead—resulting in an inaccurate and cluttered timeline. This mainly affects videos, as photos generally retain metadata better. A dedicated import tool is especially important for users migrating years of content from Google Photos.

   • Preserve the original timeline of a user's photo/video history
   • Improve sorting and searching by date
   • Offer a smoother transition for users migrating from Google services

2. Delete current photo in the web app

   Add a "Delete" button to the single photo view in the Proton Drive web app.

   If I have several similar photos and want to keep just one of them and delete all others, I need to close the current photo, find it again in the photo list view (which can be a hard task if the photos are very similar) and delete it from there instead of just clicking "Delete" for the specific photo.

3. photo location

   Support location metadata for photo: show it in details and make it possible to correct coordinates or location. It should also be good to have automatic albums based on location.

4. Heading (chapter) navigation

   I make documents with lots of chapters, which I use headings for. There should be an outline or heading select to more easily navigate the document.
   Also, when hyperlinking text, I should be able to link to a header in that same doc so I can make my own table of contents (so people reading .pdf can also navigate easily).

   Finally, it'd be nice if we could save our own custom heading styles in some way.

5. Open/edit md/docx/odt files in Proton Drive without creating a separate Proton Docs file

   As above, it seems strange that you can open files in Proton Docs, but a new file is created (pdoc) instead of amending the original file. Google drive allows for editing of docx and excel files from the drive without creating a separate doc. Clearly outline in your documentation that a new file is created to avoid confusion. This would also help in the future with integration of proton drive clients and seamless integration with file managers like on windows. I can amend files on pdrive on my windows machine but i cannot do so on my phone or using the drive online.

6. Separate forums for Docs / Sheets / Photos

   I reviewed all 34(!) pages of Proton Drive suggestions, for possibly making a suggestion on core Proton Drive functionality (user groups)... it is too much preparation before making a suggestion.

   I propose to create 3 new forums, for Docs, Sheets and Photos respectively. There is some amount of duplicate suggestions too.

7. Proton music

   Just like you have a section for your Proton photos, you should have a section for your Proton music, because most of us have to listen to our downloaded music from YouTube Music, Dizer and Sportifay. To avoid this and to maintain folder optimization, most of us need Proton music.

8. Android files sync

   Now we have photo sync, but on windows we could sync files, it will be cool and so useful, if we could sync our files on Android, like notes and other.

9. set print area in sheets

   Great work on docs and sheets, they look great so far.

   In Sheets I'd like to see a set print area function. I have many sheets where I only want to print out certain areas and I currently can't do that (unless I'm being blind?).

10. While in album: option to delete photo from album OR from drive.

    It's much more convenient to select a photo in an album instead of in your complete photo collection.
    So while selecting a photo in an album give te option to delete from album or delete completely.

16. Missing Core Spreadsheet Feature: Internal Sheet-to-Sheet Hyperlinks

    Proton Sheets is currently missing a basic, foundational spreadsheet feature that has existed in Excel and Google Sheets for well over a decade: internal hyperlinks between sheets in the same spreadsheet.

    Right now, it is not possible to create a clickable link in one sheet that navigates to another sheet within the same file.

    Let me be absolutely clear about why this is a serious problem:

    I routinely work with large, complex spreadsheets containing dozens to hundreds of sheets. These are not “toy” spreadsheets. They are operational frameworks, logs, dashboards, and documentation systems that must live inside a single file.

    In every competent spreadsheet environment (Excel, Google Sheets), this is solved with:

    Sheet-to-sheet hyperlinks

    Clickable navigation menus

    Index / contents sheets that actually work

    In Proton Sheets:

    You cannot right-click a cell and link to another sheet

    You cannot create an internal anchor link

    You cannot build a navigable index

    You are forced to scroll horizontally through endless sheet tabs like it’s 2003

    That is not a workaround. That is a product failure.

    Suggesting that users “just click the tabs at the bottom” is not realistic once a spreadsheet scales beyond a handful of sheets. When you are dealing with 50, 100, or 200 sheets, manual tab-hunting is slow, error-prone, and frankly absurd.

    This feature is:

    Not advanced

    Not niche

    Not optional

    It is table-stakes spreadsheet functionality.

    The fact that Proton Sheets shipped without internal sheet hyperlinks strongly suggests it was designed for very small, very simple spreadsheets, not real-world operational use. That puts it far behind Google Sheets and Excel in practical terms, regardless of privacy advantages.

    Feature request (non-negotiable):

    Ability to create hyperlinks that navigate to another sheet within the same spreadsheet

    Ideally with support for targeting a specific cell (e.g. SheetX!A1)

    UI support via right-click “Insert link” or formula-based linking

    Until this exists, Proton Sheets is not viable for serious spreadsheet users running large, multi-sheet systems.

    I want to use Proton’s ecosystem. I am actively trying to move away from Google. But missing fundamentals like this make that impossible.

    Please prioritise this. It should have been there from day one.

17. Upload Photo Folders Directly as Albums

    Allow users to upload an entire folder of photos directly into the Albums section so the folder is preserved as a single album. Currently, uploading a folder imports only the individual photos and removes the album structure, requiring each photo to be manually added back into an album. Preserving the folder-to-album structure during upload would significantly improve organization and save time.

18. "Move to trash" option inside the album view

    At the time of writing there is no way to move to the trash photos while previewing them inside an album. This makes deleting photos very annoying because I have to scroll to the date in the timeline where the photo was taken to actually delete it. I'd strongly suggest to enable the "move to trash" function when working with album elements.

20. Delete photo from phone as well

    When deleting a photo or video from Proton Drive, also delete it from phone's storage (to the trash).
    Such like Google Photos.
