Proton browser, based on Firefox and Chromium or self-written. Its functionality should be similar to LibreWolf, Brave, Tor. And with integrated Proton VPN.

The reason I voted for this is less about security and more about ecosystem (which with proton is security by default). I can just imagine a proton browser with all their services integrated seamlessly. On my desktop especially all the proton services feel disconnected. Even if it did use existing open source browser code as it's base i think there is some usability and security to be gained by a first party browser with everything proton built in.

Indeed, I consider this the most important thing that Proton should do now. Browsers are the gateway to the Internet and the World Wide Web. I hope that Proton will create a web browser for us to save the WWW from the monopoly practiced by Google and all companies against great privacy. Thank you.

I was just thinking that I would contribute to a crowdfunded (proton produced) browser fork of Firefox. It seems to be the lesser of all other evils.
The original proton mail crowd funding was very successful so I dont see why a browser crowdfunding couldnt also.
The products are both very necessary.

I would personally not vote for this because I'd like the devs to work on feature parity across the multiple apps. For example, the linux clients need a lot of development and this should be prioritized over a new product. Just saying...

I don't think this is a priority, we have several privacy friendly browsers. Brave, Tor, LibreWolf, etc...

I'm sure this would be a rather large undertaking, so I make this suggestion with a grain of salt, but I would love a privacy browser or search engine. Not too content with the current options out there. Was using DuckDuckGo for a while but have been turning away from them. Currently using SwissCows, but would love to use Proton for just about everything at this point.

I am more than happy with the privacy that Proton provides, and I love how open they are about the team and road map. The fact that they even have a suggestions page is outstanding.

Since 2017, Proton hasn't shown any interest in building a browser, I don't think that idea matters anymore.

We definitely need a true privacy respecting browser, so Proton is the best entity to build one. Others in this thread mention good alternatives like Firefox, (or any *fox), Vivaldi, even Brave (for real?) but the problem with those is that the developers don't have much meat on their bones so eventually they will sell the user out and build in tools or create back doors to obtain info from us to earn some money, see Mozilla. No, to be honest, there is no real alternative for the big ones like Chrome, Edge and Safari. So, please, Proton, if you read this.... build one asap!

Developing a rendering engine other than Gecko would be very complicated (see the problems of mozilla with servo...). Proton could partner with Ladybird.

A browser uncontrolled by big tech without the endless privacy violations is needed now more than ever. Proton is a perfect candidate to provide a browser that can address the endless tracking and ad issues properly. Not to mention the opportunity to integrate their other services into it.
Firefox is no longer trustworthy with their new terms and overall shift against privacy. There's little else left for options.

Regarding what’s currently happening with firefox and what proton has to offer, we have proton write, drive, pass, mail I think it’d be a really good time to have a proton browser right now. No chromium no gecko, proper proton browser.

Now Mozilla has updated it's data T&C for Firefox, the world needs a secure web browser that doesn't use our data against us.

It would be nice to have as well, integrate of things, also don't use chromium as possible.

There should be a proton browser, proton DNS, & proton search engine, for better internet privacy. Proton browser should have proton search engine enabled as default, but allows the option to change search engine for people who would prefer to use a different search engjne. The browser should also allow people to pick what DNS they wanna use, but proton should also provide its' own DNS. The browser shouldn't require a proton account, however if a user wants to log in, they should be able to, and even have the feature to sync data in it. There should also be a proton extension store where people can upload extensions but it gets reviewed by proton to check for viruses, data stealing, etc., before published or updated. The browser should have options for automatic website data clearing and cookies, and automatic history clearing (history can be stored locally or synced to account; both should be optional.). The browser should be customizable.

It would be nice if the have there own browser if you wanna be a google alternative than no own browser = no google alternative

I would love to see a partnership with Brave, though with where they are going and how Proton does things idk if that will happen. But a Proton browser... that would be sick!!!

Additionally, looking at other's comments on this being unnecessary; It might be for you, but me personally I have a very small circle of groups that I trust, with proton being the largest. since Proton has already made a suite of services that combat nonprivate ones like Google and Microsoft. Many people are also forgetting OP's point that companies like Google are buying out all the other browsers, and the simple fact that Firefox is dying and many browsers we love, like Brave, are chromium based.

Would absolutely use a Proton browser with a similar UI and such. would be a game changer, and Proton could realistically be a private challenger to giants like google or microsoft.

Kagi have shown that with a small paying user base they have built quality, privacy-focussed apps - search, browser, etc. They also hint at an email service. Firefox seems to be beyond saving. With Proton's resources the Orion browser could easily be brought to v1.0 status and Windows (it's currently MacOs only). Even if a fork.
