Proton Pass & Authenticator

  1. Web App / Interface

The absence of a nice web interface, such as what you have for Proton Mail, Proton Drive makes this almost a non-starter for me. I imported several folders of password data through your excellent import tool, but then found myself returning to my old password tool because Proton Pass is just not maintainable via the small extension window provided. It's much easier for me to use a keyboard and monitor to do my maintenance rather than just phone app or via the small extension window. A good first effort...but some work on a web user interface is needed for sure.

  2. Add 2FA OTP codes via QR codes on desktop

The mobile app allows one to add 2FA codes to a login, but the desktop browser extension does not. The Authenticator extension for e.g. Firefox supports this, so it's definitely possible.

It would be nice to not have to open the app on my phone, scan the screen, and force a sync in the extension to get the ground

  3. Autofill 2FA code from email

Is it possible to have ProtonPass autofill 2FA codes received from email? Some websites have password-less sign in or don't offer 2FA with a authenticator app, meaning they send a code to your phone or email. If I am using an email alias can ProtonPass autofill it for me?

  4. Seemless integration/link of Proton Authenticator in Proton pass

    Hello,
I have no idea if it is already possible but if both app are installed on a phone, could the Proton Pass and proton authenticator being somehow "linked" and if a login form needs a 2FA code
    => autofill it.

I guess the step linking the 2FA generator to the login/password entry in proton pass is actually missing but it would be nice.

If this feature is already possible sorry for my ignorance (could you please provide me a link to a documentation ? thanks)
    Eric

  5. Add 2FA for logging in to ProtonPass

To just have a PIN code feels a bit unsafe. Could you add 2FA as an option along with the PIN?

Dashlane has this feature already and it adds an extra layer of security. To only have a 6 number pin code for all your usernames and passwords is madness..

  6. Credit card Displays the corresponding issuing organization icon

By using the card number, you can display the corresponding card issuer, such as MasterCard, VISA, UnionPay, JCB, etc. icons to quickly locate the card type. Instead of implementing the current default icon. It would be better if you can customize the icon.

  7. Ignore Microsoft Authenticator "passwords" (Android)

I cannot avoid using Microsoft Authenticator for work.

But whenever I use it to enter a one-time code, Proton Pass pops up and offers to save the "password".

This is where the online service will pop up a two-digit number, and then the authenticator asks you to type the same number. And then unlock with biometrics. And then let you into thAe online service.

It would be slightly less annoying if Proton Pass could just ignore it.

  8. Associate alias with login under one record

I find that I end up tracking two items for a number of logins: the login record and an associated email alias. Would it make sense to have the alias be a sub-record of the login record?

  9. Travel Mode

1Password has a feature that allows you to designate groups of logins that can be removed from your vault by activating "travel mode" on their website and which will be restored to your devices by deactivating "travel mode." The purpose of this feature is to allow you to hide information when crossing international borders, since border agents in many countries (including the US) can compel you to unlock your phone and show them the contents of your apps, including password managers. This is obviously a severe violation of one's privacy.

I would like to see a similar feature in Proton…

  10. Shareable SMS and Email 2FA

Many outdated websites don't offer 2FA apps yet, and require 2FA via SMS codes texted to your phone, or emails.

This means that even if I share a login with someone in my Proton vault, they can't log in without me sending them the 2FA code.

Obviously this is far less secure than the secret key authenticator, but when we don't have a choice it's a necessary feature.

  11. Allow to drop any password manager database file into Proton Pass

I have an offline password manager on my Android phone that isn't listed in the suggested password managers for the Proton Pass app for syncing the data.

I am personally using Password Safe, but it could be good to implement the following idea for this and other password managers that aren't listed or may be used on other devices.

I would like the option to copy the database file off of my phone (or other device) onto my computer, and then when asked to sync my password manager database, I can have the option to choose "upload existing database file"…

  12. View password in extra large type

One of the things that I liked about 1Password (on both desktop and mobile) was the option to view a password in extra large type. So if I need to manually type it in (rather than copy / pasting, which isn't always an option), I can more easily see the characters.

Bonus for making different character types (capital letters, lower case letters, numbers, symbols) different colors, so the difference between lower-case-L and upper-case-I and the number 1 are obvious!

  13. add settings option for plaintext in secure notes (disable both markdown and smart text interpretation)

Allow option to disable markdown and disable smart interpretation of text in secure notes. When I go to copy a line of numbers, Proton Pass treats it as a phone contact, and forces displaying a popup for creating a new contact. I simply need to be able to copy a given number or text from a secure note, without smart interpretation features interfering. I end up copying the entire secure note contents, and paste it into a separate text editing app; from there I am able to select the number I need, copy it, and paste it where I…

  14. Longer pin

Proton Pass (Mobile - Android, and Firefox Extension) only allow for numbers that are 6 digits in length. This is not necessarily the most secure and it would good to allow for numbers that are 8 or more numbers.

EDIT: Users are logged out after 3 failed attempts to prevent against brute force attacks

  15. Reorder Items When Creating/Editing New Login

When creating a new item such as a login, note, etc, or editing an existing item, it would be helpful to be able to reorder the default and custom values. Right now, if I put in recovery phone and recovery email, and then later decide I want the email to be above the phone, I have to delete the phone and re-enter it in order for it to be below the email. If I had other items under the email, I would have to delete and re-enter more information. This is less than ideal. Better organization options would go…

  16. Customize password generator and configure default settings

Generate password generates passwords that are long, Some websites have limits on the length of the password. It would be nice if we can control the length of the password and also the kind of characters in the password(alphabets/numbers/special characters)

  17. Authenticator Warning

I used the Aegis authenticator prior to switching to the Proton authenticator app. One of the nice features was the numbers changing from blue to red at the 10-second mark and the phone vibration activating at the 5-second mark. I would like to see this feature added to the Proton authenticator.

  18. Like other apps

Please add an archive in the app to put passwords or anything unused.
Please add a collection to the app to categorize passwords such as email, social media, etc.
Please create widgets for ios that include weak passwords, total number of passwords, etc. Like Dashlane.

Please allow me to add attachments to the note with the ability to close the note with a password or a Face ID.

Please create a page that contains all the passwords created by the app because they get lost, and I can't find a page that keeps them like other password apps. With an…

  19. Proton pass and passkey sign in

I'm using proton pass for all my credentials and have the android app installed on my Pixel 8. Some sites allow you to sign in using passkeys, even if you don't have an account on the site. (for instance https://nnsc.tf -> Register). So when I choose "continue with a passkey" on the site, Firefox shows a list of options, Pixel 8 Pro, qrcode and security key. When I select Pixel 8 Pro, a notification is sent to my phone and I'm asked to connect the device. After doing that, Android complains that there is no passkeys. When i google this…

  20. Don't automatically add a forward slash when a port number is at the tail of an URL.

I have a login in Proton Pass like example.com:10000, commenly used for Webmin. PP automatically adds a forward slash, which is nice for the webserver you're going to, but not in this case.
