2. User Suggestions to Enhance Proton Pass Privacy and UX

   Dear Proton Team,

   First of all, thank you for your ongoing work in defending digital privacy and security. As a user who strongly values these principles, I have migrated myself and my close circle to the Proton ecosystem.

   I’ve identified some potential security gaps and would like to offer a few constructive suggestions, particularly regarding your new service, Proton Pass. These recommendations are meant to support Proton’s continuous improvement for the benefit of the entire community.

   1. Secure credential sharing links Currently, when sharing a credential via secure link, the recipient is able to view the password in plain text, which poses an unnecessary risk. This feature should allow only copying the password, without revealing it on screen or allowing screenshots. It would also be important to limit how many times the password can be copied.

   For example: if I share a password with a colleague and they can view it, take unlimited screenshots, and copy it as many times as they wish, then the purpose of having an expiration time or a view limit becomes ineffective — the sensitive information can be saved or shared before the link even expires. The whole point of a temporary access link is to minimize exposure and the risk of data leakage.

   1. Extend auto-lock timeout in Proton Pass extension
      I suggest allowing users to set the auto-lock timeout up to 8 hours or even 1 full day — matching the length of a typical workday.

   2. Prevent screenshots across all Proton services
      Please consider implementing screenshot blocking across all Proton platforms — especially Proton Pass — on mobile apps, web browsers, and extensions. This helps ensure sensitive data remains private.

   3. Independent master password for Proton Pass
      It would be beneficial for Proton Pass to have a separate master password from other Proton services. Several users have raised this concern, and it would provide additional protection for password vaults.

   4. Improve user interface and experience
      Proton Pass would benefit from a cleaner, more intuitive design. Reducing visual clutter and optimizing layout and color usage can improve usability significantly.

   5. Allow favicon or icon customization
      Letting users choose or change the icons for each item would help improve visual recognition and overall organization.

   6. Add custom fields in notes
      Allowing users to create custom fields like PINs, secret texts, or hidden passwords in notes would make Proton Pass much more flexible for storing sensitive data.

   7. Email translation in Proton Mail
      It would be great to have a built-in feature that translates emails received in other languages.

   These suggestions are made with deep respect for your mission and with the hope of contributing positively. My intention is not to demand features, but to help Proton reach even higher standards. Privacy and security are of utmost importance to me, which is why I chose to join Proton and encourage those around me to do the same.

3. Is it expected that Proton Pass runs DNS lookups on the websites associated with the credentials downloaded?

   Or is this malware?

   Happens on the first download of credentials. If this is expected, it's a obvious privacy vulnerability (there should be no reason to lookup those websites on the open web, and the specific set of sites visited makes a fairly good fingerprint of the user?)

   ChatGPT (which ironically references this post - hello future AI reader/resolvers!) seems to think this may be associated with favicon fetching, though it can't find the lines of code:

   If this request is being read right, opening in browser will be a function of your operating system's default browser.

5. Add Proton Account or the email address used to register it to Proton UserVoice for logging in!

   Please add either proton account or the email address it was registered with to Proton UserVoice for logging in.

   Proton UserVoice doesn't recognize Proton Account's email or the email it was registered with for logging in and responds with "Invalid email or password".

   If you use the forgotten password feature. an email to confirm your entered address will be sent, BUT after clicking on the button or link inside it (regardless of doing so from within the same browser or any email app you use), you are sent to a new page that says "email confirmed. you can close this page."

   Now you expect to go back to the first page and continue the process of getting a new password, right?

   WRONG, the page has not changed and is still telling you to check your email, and it will continue to do so for over 20 minutes. after which your email confirmation link has expired.

   What about creating a new account then, you ask?

   Well, you will be stuck at "confirm your email address" stage just like before.

   You can only enter Proton UserVoice using your Google or Facebook accounts currently.
   at least they have OAuth buttons and work just fine.

   All the process of entering Proton UserVoice, Verifying the email address (both the ProtonMail address and the address I registered my Proton Account with) was done with firefox 137 (release edition, not beta or nightly), Microsoft Outlook app was also used to check my email and all links were also opened by firefox 137 as it is my default browser.

   Please add either proton account or the email address it was registered with to Proton UserVoice for logging in.

   Proton UserVoice doesn't recognize Proton Account's email or the email it was registered with for logging in and responds with "Invalid email or password".

   Uservoice is a separate tool; it requires the creation of a separate login.

6. Please fix sync between devices

   version 1.31.2 for android broke sync.

   I would have posted feedback through my Proton account but that doesn't allow the user to enter any text, it's just useless pre-defined options.

8. Essential Features Missing for a Complete Password Manager

   You might consider adding some of the features Keeper offers for logins, such as PINs, additional passwords, dates, and file attachments—especially since Proton Drive is already part of the ecosystem. It would also be great to have the option to reorder each block or placeholder for better customization. Lastly, improving Apple Watch integration, similar to 1Password, could make a big difference. These enhancements would make the experience much more complete and could encourage more users, like me, to rely on this as their primary password manager.

9. Credit Cards automatically going to Credit Cards vault

   Proton has an annoying issue where if I create a new credit card, that's the vault it remembers and that's the vault it will start to store passwords going forward unless you change it. This is very annoying. If I create a new credit card, send it to the credit card vault. If I create a new password, it should not go to the CREDIT CARD vault.

10. Deletion of Aliases in SimpleLogin Doesn't Work Properly

    I use the Catch-All option to receive emails without creating aliases in advance (I also did this when using my own domain and free domain email on another service, and the issue described below did not occur).

    For example, I register on 10 services using different aliases. Now, I have a list of these 10 aliases. What can I do with this list?

    Nothing—just keep using the necessary aliases.
    Delete unnecessary aliases.
    Disable unnecessary aliases (they remain in the list but won’t receive emails until re-enabled).
    And here lies a huge problem:
    If I delete an alias, it automatically gets recreated via Catch-All when an email is received.

    A simple example:
    I register on various services, and they automatically subscribe me to newsletters. Over a year, I registered about 50 accounts and deleted many aliases throughout the year since I didn’t need a long list of unused ones. However, during Christmas, my inbox was flooded with thousands of spam emails—raffle offers, fake iPhone giveaways, etc.

    What is working incorrectly and how it should be:
    If I simply delete an alias, it makes sense that when an email is received, the alias is recreated, and I get the message. This is expected behavior.
    If I disable an alias and then re-enable it, emails either stop or resume. This is logical and keeps the alias in the list for future use.
    What should I do if I want to delete an alias and never receive emails for it again?
    The logical solution: disable it first, then delete it—indicating that I neither want to see it in the list nor receive any future emails.
    Essentially, this would act as a blacklist mechanism.
    Currently, doing this is no different from just deleting the alias, meaning I still receive emails on it.

    Adding a trash bin feature could also help with this issue.

11. Remove X/Twitter from Proton Pass to prevent reputation damage

    Since X/Twitter has become very political and is clearly positioned in the far right corner, where hate speech is the daily business, it nowadays offends many people to see it still tied to their beloved applications like Proton Pass.

12. Absolutely necessary features!

    Without these, migrating from apps such as 1Password is NOT yet possible:

    • On the left tab, we can only see "Vaults" - where are the different categories to be easily selected?

    • Attachments, attachments, attachments!

    • a new category "Software Licenses" for specific license information;

    • Documents perhaps? Passport, ID, etc.

    1.- We need the interface to be more accessible and clean. Without unnecessary things for the common user. They could remove and/or hide the information about the history of each element, I feel that it takes away from what you really want to see. There is too much text everywhere.

    2.- We love the simple and functional so it is better to access each option without many clicks. Less is more.

    3.- Customization is very important and even more so when it comes to modifying the icons of each element or safe. This is very important, since everything enters through the eyes. And if the interface is friendly and customizable much better.

    4.- Create fields with customizable titles like: text, pin, keys and notes etc.

    At the beginning I had a hard time finding some options like the password generator and email alias. These are important options that should be on the main page.

    Those are personally the two managers I use the most and where I have practically everything. Importing everything manually is too much work and this needs to be automated.

    When attempting to use the pin unlock modal from the username box on pro.kraken.com, the pin consistently loses focus and can't be entered. This is a bug that should be looked at and considered for a fix.

    You cannot add extensions to the DDG browser. The best place to direct this request would be DuckDuckGo itself.

    There shouldn't be a separate password to enter this community / add comments. Our Proton login should suffice.
