I'm not personally a fan of biometrics for application authn so if you implement this I won't be using it personally - but there are others who do like the idea. That having been said if that is something being considered look at Truststamp's fully encrypted, irreversible, biometric tokenization: https://truststamp.ai
"Technology that creates unique, irreversible hashed-tokenized identities and facilitates secure, interoperable identity proofing – anywhere in the world, online and offline."
Caveat: the OP is attempting to solve a different problem than biometric/authn - they simply want the logout to stop on app update - which is entirely unrelated to authn mechanisms. So my concurrence here is to the matter of biometric/authn in general rather than their specific complaint of "auto-logout on update" for which I can envision quite a number of update situations in which logging out would be required.

From their own site - they need support from a Swiss-based organization...
"Currently, OpenBoard is maintained by the Education Department (DIP) of the canton of Geneva, in Switzerland. The University of Lausanne, who developped the original Uniboard software in 2003 has joined the effort by means of a logistical and financial contribution. An association project will be developed in 2019.
A meeting was held in June 2016 between representatives from the universities of Lausanne, Neuchâtel, Fribourg and Geneva, the departments of Education from the cantons of Geneva and Jura as well as various institutions from the canton of Vaud (Switzerland) to together reflect on the desired evolution of OpenBoard.
Interest is growing fast across Switzerland but also in Europe and North America. A swiss law non-profit organisation should be created. This organisation would promote OpenBoard and its open source development and foster collaboration between interested parties. This in respect of the core principles which led to the creation of this fork, that is the refocusing on the work of a teacher in a classroom, privileging the ease of use."

Or add a tailscale-like feature to Proton allowing the same chaining through Proton rather than Tailscale

An OIDC service that allows users to authenticate at apps & services using their Proton credentials as a secure, 3rd party IDP that those services can trust.
OIDC is: "It is easy, reliable, secure, and eliminates storing and managing people’s passwords. It improves the user experience of sign-up and registration and reduces website abandonment. Furthermore, Public-key-encryption-based authentication frameworks like OpenID Connect increase the security of the whole Internet by putting the responsibility for user identity verification in the hands of the most expert service providers."

An OIDC service that enables users to use their proton credentials to authenticate with apps and services that use OIDC (e.g., apps that let you authenticate using your Facebook or gmail or apple credentials etc) - having a secure OIDC connected not to an insecure app would be a good service.

This would make Proton a carrier under US law and subject them to CALEA and other Federal regulations that would significantly weaken privacy for all of us.
