I came here to second the request, but also just discovered you can indeed label emails using only the keyboard. The step we were missing was pressing space after tab to select the label we want. Once the label has a tick next to it from pressing space you can then press enter to apply that label.

It's more keystrokes than I would like, but at least it saves us from having to switch to the mouse or trackpad.

It would be even better if you could skip the extra keystrokes to label the first search result by pressing enter straight after typing whatever search text you wanted e.g typing "to" then pressing enter would apply a label called "todo" (assuming nothing else matched "to" before "todo").

A subject-only search field would be useful, but it would be even better if the search field allowed operators like "subject:XYZ" or "folder:Folder1".

Impossible to search multiple folders at this point too. We're stuck either searching everywhere or a single folder selected by the GUI buttons/drop-downdown (since folder search doesn't descend into subfolders).

Most surprising to find that in 2026 ProtonMail still isn't making it trivial to search the current folder by default.

Subfolders are also excluded from search, but since you can't select multiple folders for search there's no way to manually replicate this feature either! As others have stated, allowing syntax like "in:foldername1 in:folderername2" would be helpful if devs didn't want to change the existing button-based UI.

My current workaround for this is to try and include part of the parent folder name in the subfolder name. Unfortunately, this then makes subfolder names longer so hits issue #47731496 (https://protonmail.uservoice.com/forums/284483-proton-mail-calendar/suggestions/47731496-resizable-left-pane).

Please implement this - especially since a userscript-based fix to make the sidebar resizable only works on the web version of ProtonMail and not the desktop app.

Already requested at https://protonmail.uservoice.com/forums/284483-proton-mail-calendar/suggestions/47731496-resizable-left-pane so please vote there and add a comment too. Hopefully we can get enough voices for Proton to address this basic shortcoming in their product.
