When copying Markdown-formatted text from external sources into Proton Mail's compose window, the Markdown syntax is displayed as plain text instead of being converted to rich text formatting.
Example from my workflow:
- Input: "**Subject:**" (Markdown bold)
- Output in Proton Mail: "**Subject:**" (literal asterisks visible)- Input: "---" (Markdown divider)
- Output in Proton Mail: "---" (literal dashes visible)- Input: "- bullet point" (Markdown list)
- Output in Proton Mail: "- bullet point" (literal dash visible)Current workaround: I must manually reformat every element using Proton Mail's toolbar buttons (B, I, headings, lists), which adds 5-10 minutes per structured email.
Expected behavior:
1. Auto-detect Markdown patterns on paste and convert to rich text, OR
2. Add a "Convert Markdown to Rich Text" button, OR
3. Support "Paste as Rich Text" that preserves formatting from sourceImpact: High – affects professionals who draft emails/documents in Markdown editors (Notion, Obsidian, VS Code, etc.) and need seamless integration with Proton Mail.
