How can we improve Proton Drive?

You've used all your votes and won't be able to post a new idea, but you can still search and comment on existing ideas.

  1. Choose photo sync folder per device

    Hello,

    It would be good to allow the user to select the folder where Photos are synced to for each device, as done by other services.

    This would be particularly useful when a user possesses more than one mobile device and wishes to keep the photos of each of those devices separate from the others.

    Example:
    Mobile 1: PhotoFolder1
    Mobile 2: PhotoFolder2
    Mobile 3: PhotoFolder1

  2. Desktop support for photos

    Hello,
    It's awesome we can now backup photos from phones, however it's not really convenient to search through all the photos (mobile and web), I wish we had an UI/UX similar to what Dropbox does.

    Also I'd love to be able to check my backed up photos from my computer (again, similar to Dropbox, just a preview from the folder, and only download if I open the photo), now I can only check from the web.

  3. View breakdown of storage

    It would be great if we could see how big folders are in Drive, as well as a nice view of what's taking up all our space. Much like the program WinDirStat.

  4. Photo backup by album should save to albums

    In the mobile app I can select which albums to backup on Proton drive. When saved to Proton drive the photos should stay sorted into those albums.

    Additionally, being able to create share links to those albums would be good as well.

  5. Annotations for files/directories

    The ability to tag directories and files with annotations, even if they're just limited to being very short notes, would be very useful for tasks pertaining to organizing file collections, and overall preventing long-term forgetfulness that tends to come with that (example: it's 2030 "why did I keep these files around? They look deprecated... oh, right here's a note I left six years ago reminding myself why I shouldn't delete these. Okay then.")

  6. Document requests for upload

    Besides sharing documents securely I also want to receive documents securely. Therefore, a proton mail integrated feature that allows to request documents to be uploaded via proton drive to my drive via a link shared via email.

  7. Crucial information on reinstalltion is not documented, seriuosly impacting on what is cloud stored. Default setting not appropriate

    New features:
    * Relevant documentation
    * The removal process in the app should NOT have the default set to "Remove Proton Drive settings and previously remembered credentials"
    * Removal of a named folder from the list of folders that set to be synced is too simple.

    I could not find any documentation on this, only found out by multiple tests.

    If your plan is to reinstall the Proton Drive app and expect to return to syncing as before with all previous versions intact - Be careful.

  8. 200 Gb upload to Drive

    I would like to upload my family pictures to Drive (I think it will be safety), and Now I upload on webpages but it's too slowly.
    Maybe ftp or something else upload version is it possible?

  9. Web PDF Viewer Improvements

    Here are possible improvements to the pdf viewer (web):
    - Remove encryption
    - Convert to PDF/A
    - Convert to Linearized PDF

    I think the first one is the most useful for people. And once this is implemented, the other two could be easy to implement (given the toolchain required for the the first one).

  10. Upload from a hyperlink

    Ideally we would have remote upload but then I guess that's not possible due to E2EE. So, instead give a web UI feature, where instead of having to manually download and then upload, the Web UI itself downloads the file onto storage and encrypts and uploads it.

  11. Back up files based on comparison of date last modified vs. date last backed up to Proton Drive

    Of the many thousands of files on my computer, only some will have changed since the last backup to Proton Drive. The backup would proceed much faster if Proton Drive would compare the date of last PD backup with the date the source file (on my laptop, for example) was last modified. Perhaps Proton could provide this option: f the latter is more recent than the former, then backup the file. Otherwise, skip.

  14. Option to choose the type of link to be created for sharing with others: Read only or edit access

    Although the option exist to create a sharing link but the link provides full fledged access, a user should be able to create a link which is still secured by password but is not giving edit access to the person holding the link and the password. The feature already exists in microsoft's "one drive".

  15. Being able to identify and delete the largest files

    With Google, there is a page that will help you to understand what service (Drive, Mail, Photos, et cetera) are consuming what % (or amount of GB) of the total diskspace available in your plan.

    As second step it would be very useful to be able to filter on file-sizes over all sources (Mail, Drive, Photo) and being able to delete the selected files to free up space efficiently and have regular housekeeping.

  17. Remove from download on ios Files app.

    Remove from download on iOS “Files app”. If I open a file in the app, the file is also downloaded locally to the device and I have no way to remove it from the downloads. With dropbox, even if I open the file (in app) it is not downloaded to the device. Only if I put save to device.

  18. Missing file replacement dialog in proton drive app

    Proton Drive Android App is missing the file replacement dialog. Whenever we try to upload a same file in a folder, the app just renames it to <filename>_(1).<extension>, which is super annoying. I need to delete the old file and then upload new. This is not an issue in web client (even on android browser).

  19. Viewing Options

    It would be nice to have three folder viewing options (list, thumbnail, large thumbnail). Every view should be independently selectable in each hierarchy level p.ex.:

    Main Folder list view
    Subfolder small thumbnails
    Subfolder content large thumbnails

    If 'list view' is now chosen in one of the hierarchy levels, it automatically applies to all the other levels. The shared folder view is always shown in 'list view' for the recipient. It would be easy, if the chosen view would automatically apply to the shared folder view too (or elegant, if a choice option for the recipient could be offered to change…

  20. Synoloy FTP Drive

    Hello,
    I am a new VPN+Drive customer
    I will contact you regarding the Proton Drive part
    I have some questions :

    1. On Drive you can see the size of the files but at the directory level, no information on the number of files and the size of the directory
      It is important for me to see if all files are present (number)

    2. I have a Synology server with the Cloud Sync app. My server serves as a first backup and I used Cloud Sync for a second external backup
      to the Web (Infomaniak). But for you this manipulation does not…
