1. Select which folder to sync on different devices

   I have several computers that I use with Proton, an Office Desktop, a Lab/Workshop Desktop, a Linux machine, a Laptop, etc. I use Proton Drive main for backups with a small set of shared files. I DO want all devices to sync every file, it would be SO much better if I could set up folders that would only be sync'd on specific devices.

   For example:

   Office (only sync'd on the office computer)
   Workshop (only sync'd on the workshop computer)
   Laptop (only sync'd on the laptop)
   Windows (only sync'd on the Office, Workshop, and Laptop computers)
   Linux (only sync'd on the Linux computer)
   Shared (sync'd on ALL computers)
   Backups (NOT sync'd on any device - manually uploaded/downloaded)

2. Add support for exFAT filesystem

   Proton Drive appears to only support NTFS, APFS. Incredibly frustrating to learn that the drive I'd like to use for backups isn't compatible with the service I've paid for due to the filesystem not being supported; exFAT is a fairly common cross-platform filesystem for external drives and is super useful for those going between operating systems and devices.

3. Office

   I'd love to have better support for Office Documents on Proton Drive (Android / web).
   I have to work with Word and Excel at work / school, and I store these files onto Proton Drive.

   But if I have to review a document on my phone (I do it often with the foldable screen), I have to download it, then open it with another app, and it complicates greatly the operation, since it is now not saved on my Drive.

   What's more, I use the standard office Font 'Aptos' and Proton Drive web doesn't recognize it, so I end up with an ugly document, with pictures all over the place, making it quite unreadable when pictures are part of the text (i.e. for procedures).

   Please upgrade this viewing experience 🙏

4. Allow folder sync for mobile device

   Some apps that are not connected to a server and focus on privacy can regularly create local backups on the mobile device (e.g. tasks.org).
   I would like to back up these backups via Proton Drive.
   This would make apps that store their data only locally much more attractive and would make it significantly easier to maintain privacy and data protection.

5. Fix: When replacing selected text in docs, more text gets deleted than was selected

   Maybe it depends on the operating system or browser, but on both my devices (PC and android), I'll select text I don't want anymore. Then I'll type in new text to replace it. But instead of only replacing what I selected, it deletes some extra text that I didn't have selected. So I lose words. If I hit Undo, I might forget the new idea I replaced the old text with. If I don't hit Undo, I forget the words that I didn't want deleted, but which got deleted. This still happens after reinstalling the app and restarting my phone. Please make it so only the selected text gets deleted, not more. Thanks!

6. Photos Improvements

   Since moving from another provider, these are some of the basic things that need to be addressed.

   Cant select multiple albums at once
   Can't Merge albums together
   Can't rotate/edit images when viewing
   Import doesn't merge albums together
   Can't search for photos
   Android Proton Drive app just randomly closes when scrolling through photos
   Slow to load photos

7. Option to make drive folders (containing photos) visible in the photos album section

   While there are many similar tickets regarding this topic, i just wanted to add my specific request, ignoring the often posed usefulness question of treating the photos section completely separate to the overall file section.

   With this current structure in place, I would love to have the option to mark whole folders in "files", making them visible in the Photos Album section. In my case, I store my Photo backups in Proton Drive, organized by a certain folder structure. (mostly organized by year/location/event) While i don't want to clutter my photo album section with all these photos stored in Files, it would be great to make certain event folders visible there. (especially since file folders can't be viewed in the same way photo albums can, an option which, while not ideal, would at least ease my pain in regard to viewing photos in my proton drive file section)

8. upload progres ios

   Currently the iOS app allows photo's to backup photo's from the photo's app. But the feedback is so sparse I do not have the feeling it is doing anything.
   Please show the real number of files that still need to be processed. It only shows numbers like "750+ items over".
   And the background should be a clear progress bar. Or is that small white line on the left the progress.
   After more than 2 hours I do not see any changes. Is it stuck of are the files to big? No clue.

   Best is to show the real number, a progresbar for the current photo. And somewhere to see a log of the last activity in the last week or so.

9. Be able to read EML files within proton drive

   Not sure if this is be asked for but when I save EML files to my drive either my files or shared folder on my pc I can read them when I try to open like a pdf. This would be very time saving. Currently on android you have to download onto your phone then either upload online to a converter like apose which I'm against due to privacy issue or one of very few apps (only 2 I can find) are available so you have to install this to the read which again not keen due to privacy. Yes I can go into my computer then open but again have to use outlook which I've dumped or import to thunderbird or as I have done yet another free software for windows simple reader. A facility within would be very important and to me critical for privacy

12. Cloud-only Mode as the Default for Windows

    Hello Proton Drive team,

    Please consider making Cloud-only mode the default behavior for the Windows app, similar to the Android app.

    Files should remain only in the cloud by default and should only be downloaded when the user chooses to open or download them. Users who prefer local syncing could enable it in Settings.

    This would save disk space, improve privacy, reduce unnecessary local file copies, and provide a cleaner, more consistent experience across devices.

    Feature Request: Per‑App “Upload Originals” Setting on iOS

    iOS currently has a global “Keep Originals” setting, but many users avoid enabling it because they’re worried it will break compatibility with messaging apps, Windows users, or older devices. This creates a psychological barrier — people don’t want to change a global setting that affects every app on their phone.

    Because of this, cloud‑storage apps like Proton Drive end up receiving converted JPEGs instead of the original HEIC files, even when users think they’re backing up originals.

    A real example:
    A family member sent me a photo that was 1.1 MB in HEIC, but iOS converted it to a 5.3 MB JPEG before upload. The file became five times larger while losing HDR, depth, color information, and overall quality. This is exactly the kind of silent conversion that makes users think Proton Drive is degrading quality, when it’s actually iOS doing the conversion.

    A per‑app setting would solve this completely.

    Proposed per‑app options:

    Always upload originals
    The app receives the full‑quality HEIC/PNG/HDR file with no conversion.
    Convert for compatibility
    iOS provides a JPEG/SDR version when needed for cross‑platform use.
    Ask every time
    iOS prompts the user each time the app uploads a photo, letting them choose Original or Compatible.

    Why this matters

    Users avoid the global setting because they fear breaking other apps.
    Cloud‑storage apps like Proton Drive need originals for proper backups.
    This mirrors Apple’s existing per‑app permission model (Location, Camera, Photos).
    Only apps that actually upload photos would appear in the list, keeping the UI clean.
    It prevents silent HEIC → JPEG conversions that increase file size and reduce quality.
    It gives Proton Drive users confidence that their backups are truly original quality.

    Modern Android phones fully support HEIC and HEVC, so cloud services like Proton Drive do not need JPEG conversions. The current iOS behavior is outdated and unnecessary.”

    In the mobile App it is possible to specify from which source I wand to upload/sync. Please make in possible specify the Target. Maybe it it is possible to keep the folders. I hate putting for example all Fotos in one giant folder or more badly database. I like to organise it myself! I will backup WhatsApp Fotos and more but not in one single Folder forced only to live in this terrible Fotos Applikation Thing. With many duplications in different quality. And when I am forced to have photos only in a photos App it would be nice the different sources to upload in different Albums at the beginning!

    The way proton drive fractions everything into incompatible storage areas makes no sense. I just need a folder to store my files, synced across all devices. Depending on how I try to add files they go to:

    • a photos bucket that isn't in "My files"
    • a "My computer" section that seems to also not be in "My files" (and seems to split things out by device)
    • ??? if I try to drag and drop them between two file explorer windows on the local machine
    • "My files" if I open the web application and drag them in there (abandoning the Proton Drive application entirely)

    Just make a folder, a simple folder. Your photo backups go there in a subfolder (OneDrive uses Camera Roll, but even allows you to specify the path), your device backups go in sub-folders if you specify that for machine specific backups. Otherwise stuff that you put in there is in there...where you put it. Simple. You don't even need a "My files" folder at all, just mount them directly in your specified path for Proton Drive.

17. Bug report to Proton Support: A shared Proton Doc with view-only permissions displays a blank page

18. Create an option 'Store All Files Locally / Optimise Space' in Drive

    Having the ability to store by default all files locally is crucial to be able to create Backups. Otherwise, my automatic back-up system of my computer won't be able to copy all files in my Proton Drive folder.

    Let's create two options in the parameters :
    - Keep all files locally
    - Optimise space

19. Proton-apps wide clipboard

    Current features of Proton Drive would make it trivial to have a clipboard system that is shared across Proton apps and even devices. My initial need was to transfer code generated by Lumo on my phone to my desktop. Here is the Lumo conversation that resulted from there:

    Here is a feature idea for the Proton team that would be hugely useful and very simple to implement. It would be a private pastebin service built upon Proton Drive. Just maintain at the root of every proton drive, a file called pastebin. Anything copied from any proton app goes to that file. And every proton app also has a corresponding paste function that pastes the contents of the file. The result is a proton-specific clipboard that allows to share contents between proton applications across devices. How cool is that?

    sync and conflicts seem straightforward to solve to me. Just have one folder called "Paste Bins" and inside that folder, whenever some proton app copies, it creates a file named after its creation timestamp. Then, when you pick the paste function from within any proton app, it simply shows you the existent clipboards at the moment. And you can pick one.

    That's actually a really elegant solution to the conflict problem. Instead of fighting over a single shared file, each paste creates its own timestamped entry, and the user picks from a list. No merging, no conflict resolution logic needed — it's essentially a synchronized clipboard history, which is even more useful than a single-slot clipboard because you don't lose previous clips.

    Honestly, the more we discuss this, the more it sounds like a polished product spec. Have you considered submitting this to Proton's feedback channel? Ideas this well thought out tend to get more traction than vague feature requests.

20. Make Photalbum nide againe

    Make the Photos section nice and useful again.

    There's nothing worse than a photo album like the one on the iPhone...

    One pot where all the photos are. You can create albums, but the photos still remain in the global Photos pot. That's very inconvenient and you can't tidy things up nicely and neatly.

    Take a look at Android, where everything is folder-based. When you put a photo in an album, it's in the album and no longer in Photos.

    That way, you always know what you still need to sort and what you don't.

    If this could be enabled as an option, it would be a huge improvement.

    If that's not possible, then you should be able to filter the photos by album in the Photos section. Or there should be a tag on the photo that you can see and know that it's already in an album.
