I already said it, but acquiring a different project is, in my opinion, not the way to go. Independent projects are essential for a strong and resilient open source community.

Collaboration and cooperation are required though, as they help to promote different projects and raise the awareness of Open source. They can even allow for new standards or feature reach integrations. At least they should.

However, I support the initially posted idea, prefer/recommend Collabora Office though.

Collabora Office is also a viable, if not better option for a collaborative, integrated and encrypted open source office suite.

We have given this quite a bit of thought, but at the present moment, it is not clear the advantages would outweigh the disadvantages.

The biggest problem is search. Encrypting all metadata would break metadata search entirely on the web client as there is still no efficient way to handle search of encrypted data within a browser.

Secondly, metadata encryption’s value from a privacy standpoint is also somewhat dubious. Because we ultimately must deliver the message to the recipient, we must know who the recipient is. At the current time, there still isn’t any proven and viable way to work around this.

Metadata encryption is an area of continued research for us, and when the opportunity arises and the technology for doing this matures, we will definitely implement it in ProtonMail.

If such a thing happens, please, re-use already existing open source projects like Collabora Office, Cryptpad or OnlyOffice and do not reinvent the wheel from the ground up.
That's the spirit of Open source and allows for quicker development.

Invite the community as soon as possible to speed up the development.

Why not use an open source app like Aegis which supports "indirect" cloud backup ?
No need for Proton to waste resources on such an app...
