A few things that are important to me:
- LaTeX support for math. Mathquill.com is a great library for implementing this. Check out desmos.com to see mathquill in action.
- Sharing with non-Proton users, even if it's just for viewing. This would especially important if Proton creates a Google Forms equivalent.
- Syntax highlighting for code blocks. Not expecting an IDE, just better readability.

The initial state of Docs surprised me. The UX is a lot better than what I was expecting, probably because of my experience with Standard Notes. There is, of course, a lot left to do before it comes close to Google Docs:
- LaTeX support for math (I suggest using mathquill.com. Desmos.com implements it and it's very easy for the end user)
- A menu for browsing Unicode characters such as ⬉, ♬, etc. Google Docs calls this Special characters
- Table of contents based on titles and headers.
- Suggestion mode
- Syntax highlighting for code blocks (not expecting an IDE although would be pretty cool)
- Pageless format
- Headers & footers
- Render the gray bar in front of quotes when printing
- Line spacing
- Create a shareable link which would allow anyone who accesses it to edit or view the document without a Proton account -

Introducing Docs in Proton Drive – collaborative document editing that’s actually private: https://proton.me/blog/docs-proton-drive
With Docs you can:
- Write with privacy — Create and edit documents within Proton Drive, knowing your contents are only accessible to you and those you choose to share with.
- Share and invite anyone — Invite other users to view or edit your documents with a single click.
- Collaborate in real-time — Changes are reflected immediately, ensuring every contributor always sees the most up-to-date version.
- View cursors and presence indicators — See who else is viewing or editing the document, enhancing teamwork and communication.
- Leave comments and replies — Add comments to share feedback without editing the document. Comments are visible to all collaborators, keeping everyone in the loop.
- Import and export with ease — You can upload .docx documents, edit them, and download in various formats like .docx, .txt, .md, and HTML.

My friends and family only want to use Proton Mail and Pass. Calendar and Drive don't suit their needs and they don't care about a VPN.

This is incredibly important to me. I cannot ever fully trust any cloud password manager to always be there when I need it so I'd like to have easy backups in the form of a KeePass database. If possible, I'd like passkeys to be transferred as well.
