The UX is a lot better than what I was expecting, probably because of my experience with Standard Notes. There is, of course, a lot left to do before it comes close to Google Docs:
- LaTeX support for math (I suggest using mathquill.com. Desmos.com implements it and it's very easy for the end user)
- A menu for browsing Unicode characters such as ⬉, ♬, etc. Google Docs calls this Special characters
- Table of contents based on titles and headers.
- Suggestion mode
- Syntax highlighting for code blocks (not expecting an IDE although would be pretty cool)
- Pageless format
- Headers & footers
- Render the gray bar in front of quotes when printing
- Line spacing
- Create a shareable link which would allow anyone who accesses it to edit or view the document without a Proton account -

A few things that are important to me:
- LaTeX support for math. Mathquill.com is a great library for implementing this. Check out desmos.com to see mathquill in action.
- Sharing with non-Proton users, even if it's just for viewing. This would especially important if Proton creates a Google Forms equivalent.
- Syntax highlighting for code blocks. Not expecting an IDE, just better readability.
