  1. Dynamic swipe on mobile (mark as Read/Unread - Spam/Safe)

In any email mobile app, i'm always looking for two things :
    - Swipe to mark as read
    - Swipe to mark as spam
I believe that depending o the current status of the email, those swipe could be dynamic. If the message if already read, then the swip would mark it as unread. if it's in the spam folder then the allocated swipe would place it in the inbox.
Right the mark as read is way too complicated

  2. Prevent Auto loading of remote content embedded images in Spam folder

It would be useful to enable an auto option for loading of remote content embedded images for all emails except those in the Spam folder. I'd like to keep it Auto everywhere else. If it’s in Spam we need to be more careful, so picking up the same settings as an email which passed spam checking doesn’t seem right.

  3. Allow users to customize the Encrypted Proton Mail message to Non-Proton Mail users.

Non-Proton Mail users often discard or delete new encrypted messages, because they may sometimes appear as spam.

    Especially Non-English speaking Non-ProtonMail users.

It would be better if one could just write down something like:

"Hi, Mike! This is my new email address. I have sent you an encrypted email, just click on the link below and type in the password to open it. This is the password hint: ...text..."

  5. Improve addressing with extension character; allow hyphen (-); use correct sender address.

    1. Add the use of a hyphen (-) as the extension character, in addition to plus (+). Reasoning is below.

    2. When a message arrives for example-bob@protonmail.com, replies sent by the recipient should automatically show example-bob@protonmail.com as both the header sender and the envelope sender. The reason should be obvious.

Why hyphen (-) in addition to plus (+). The use of plus (+) tells people that you are using an extension, while the use of hyphen (-) makes the address look like an ordinary address.

Many buggy websites reject email addresses that contain a plus.

For additional reasoning see the original…

  6. Encryption of all metadata

If Protonmail is to be serious about privacy, I don't understand why all metadata isn't kept solely in encrypted form. I just signed up for Scryptmail and any data is kept in encrypted form, unreadable for any third party.

I don't see why it would be necessary to keep for instance the senders or subject titles in encrypted form when Protonmail doesn't support POP3 or IMAP.

The problem is that otherwise e-mail is inherently insecure, because if for instance a governmental entity wants to see your account, while they won't have access to the content of your e-mails, they can…

We have given this quite a bit of thought, but at the present moment, it is not clear the advantages would outweigh the disadvantages.

The biggest problem is search. Encrypting all metadata would break metadata search entirely on the web client as there is still no efficient way to handle search of encrypted data within a browser.

Secondly, metadata encryption’s value from a privacy standpoint is also somewhat dubious. Because we ultimately must deliver the message to the recipient, we must know who the recipient is. At the current time, there still isn’t any proven and viable way to work around this.

Metadata encryption is an area of continued research for us, and when the opportunity arises and the technology for doing this matures, we will definitely implement it in ProtonMail.

  8. Add received spam senders to blacklist with one click

When I get a spam email I would like to be able to blacklist the sender with one-click ( maybe 2 clicks or a right-click) to add them to my blacklist without having to copy and paste or re-type the spammers email address, please.

  9. Use @passmail.com domain

Another similar request was made here:
    https://protonmail.uservoice.com/forums/284483-proton-mail/suggestions/47150074-allow-use-of-passmail-net-domain-for-default-emai

But I would like to use the @passmail.com domain when making a new address on my account. That domain is far more reasonable to say over the phone instead of protonmail.com or pm.me. :)

  11. Implement DANE for added security and privacy

DANE (DNSSEC) would be hugely beneficial to the security and privacy of ProtonMail. DANE makes Man-in-the-Middle attacks practically impossible.

This is a necessary addition and should certainly be prioritized over-all, as it is at the core of what ProtonMail represents: privacy and security.

It's currently a feature available over at Tutanota (https://tutanota.com) and definitely sets it apart as an arguably more secure option, here's a great read on the topic: https://tutanota.com/blog/posts/dane-everywhere

  13. Custom domain + email alias directly on ProtonPass/ProtonMail

It would be great if we could create email aliases using our custom domain directly through ProtonPass. I know this can be done via SimpleLogin, but thinking about a family plan where a spouse or children would use the service, it's complicated to deal with privacy education by asking them to use one portal to create emails and another to create and manage passwords and logins. Even for personal use, it's much simpler and faster to create aliases through ProtonPass directly via the app or extension.

Along with this, it would also be great if each family member…

  14. "Keep me logged in" option

I really like ProtonMail and use it as my primary mailing service. But one of the most tedious things about it is having to enter the two passwords every time i want to check my e-mail.

ProtonMail keeps logging me out after a few seconds/minutes of closing its tab, so i now have to keep a tab open in order to continuously check my e-mail. Furthermore, i'm using long passwords (in conjunction with Keepass) for more security, so it's not easy to type my passwords every few minutes.

I use ProtonMail on my desktop home computer, so there's no danger…

  15. Provide multi lingual versions

Provide the ProtonMail Service in further major European languages such as German, French, Spanish, Italian. That could improve the acceptance and increase the number of users.

  16. Mail filters for app

I have ProtonMail Plus and use the Android app. Please add Filters to the settings menu for the phone apps so mail filters can be added, edited, deleted or turned on/off using the phone app. I rarely have a need to log into the ProtonMail site and it is annoying having to login just to create a mail filter.

  17. Aliases to separate inboxes / folders

Let's say you use a number of different E-Mails. Some you only use for websites where you expect spam. Some for websites which still send promotions and the like, but which you generally trust. Another alias might be your personal E-Mail address that you hand out to friends.

Fortunately, Protonmail offers the alias functionality, but right now, everything is dumped into the same inbox.

Now, I have seen lots of requests for folders (sorry, but labels are not folders. They do not do the trick). What is missing from all this, I believe, is the ability to create…

  18. PGP Smartcard Support

A moderately happy plus subscriber, however i was disappointed to find i cannot use my own PGP keys that i have stored on my YubiKey. I would hope at the very least in future i will be able to use the ProtonMail Bridge and have it allow me to insert my own PGP encrypted messages with my own keys using GPG4Win without throwing me a 554 error.

    Other ideas for this area:

    • Support PGP smartcards
    • Allow plain IMAP connections to ProtonMail so that i can use my own mail client and handle my own encryption
    • Allow integration with ProtonMail and…

  19. catch-all support for custom domains

With the addition of custom domain support, I really would love the option to have a catch-all email address, as I've been using that feature a LOT on my current/previous hoster.

I vastly prefer that over the account+alias@protonmail.com feature, as using that would require me to change all the places where I used all those other email addresses.
