1. Enable 'rclone' to give you access to the Proton Drive as part of the Mac file system, or produce a Terminal app yourselves.

   I've used the command-line program 'rclone' to show my Proton Drive as part of my Mac file system, so I can backup files from a Terminal. It's dead slow, but it worked. Then, two days ago, I ran

If you believe this is in error, please contact us here: https://proton.me/support/appeal-abuse (Code=2028, Status=422)"
   I went to that URL and filled in the form. No response, and it still doesn't work, 48 hours later. There is no abusive traffic on my network. I'm using Proton VPN.

2. Local cache

   Other cloud providers have a local cache that you can set the size of, that just retains your most recently opened files so you're not having to re-download them every time you open them. I realise you can set specific files or folders to be available locally, but it's a pain having to do this when you have lots of different files (drawing files is what I'm thinking of) with large (GB) attachments. With a cache they're just available while actively working with them, and then they eventually get pushed back off the local drive when you're no longer opening them again.

3. Add Simple Diagram Feature in Proton Docs

   Hi Proton team,

   It would be great to have a simple built-in diagram feature in Proton Docs — something lightweight to create quick flowcharts or concept maps directly in a document. Nothing complex, just basic shapes and connections to visualize ideas easily without leaving the editor.

4. Ability to overwrite a file

   Currently if editing a file in Drive with an external application (Libre Office, AndrOpen Office, etc) there is no way to save the file. I have to "Save As", delete the original and rename the new one. Contacted support and was given the usual "This is how it is, it may be fixed in a future version¨. I say this is a bug that should have been caught in alpha testing and frankly I'm shocked that I'm the first to mention this here.

5. Delete original backup if organized into an album

   I'm wondering if it would be feasible to add a feature into proton drive, where the original videos and photos get backed up if its possible to delete it after that same photo or video gets moved into an album as I imagine for most people it would be easier to search through named albums vs a random collection of pics and videos put together.

   TL;DR - Photo/video gets backed up>Move photo/video to album>Delete original photo/video (without deleting the one in the album). Saves space and keeps things clean and organized

7. I'd like to share a photoalbum.

   I'm a hobby-photographer and i mainly bought proton drive to share pictures.
   The problem is, when uploading pictures as files, i can share them, but i can not view a prewiev on my phone, without having to download them. On the other side, when i upload them as pictures, i can not share them easily with friends. I want to share a link, from which they can view and download the pictures, without having to create an account on proton.

   This is just stupid and should not be that hard.

8. Link sharing: Add "Request Access" Approval for Shared Links (Google Drive-style)

   Please add a "Request Access / Manual Approval" option for shared links in Proton Drive.

   How it should work:
   When someone clicks a shared link, they cannot immediately access the file / folder.
   Instead, they see a button like "Request Access."
   The owner receives a notification and can approve or deny each request, tied to the requester's email address.

   Why this matters:
   Prevents link leaks. Even if the URL is forwarded, only approved people get access.
   Gives owners more granular control, without relying only on passwords or expiry dates.
   Matches a feature users are already familiar with from Google Drive, making migration easier.

   Optional enhancements:
   Let owners revoke individual approvals later.
   Combine with existing Proton Drive features like link expiry and passwords for layered security.
   Allow domain restrictions (e.g. only @company.com accounts).

   This would give Proton Drive one of the strongest and most user-friendly access control systems in the privacy-focused cloud market.

9. Auto trim Trash item older the XX days

   Compared to other Web Drive providers, Proton Drive lacks a feature where items whose 'Deleted Time' exceeds a certain threshold (i.e. 30 days) get automatically deleted by the system.
   There are a number of reasons as to why this might be so. One possible reason could be that, due to data encryption on Proton's side, they cannot view certain metadata of the file, such as its 'Deleted Time'. This would then exclude any attempts by the server to perform housekeeping duties.

   The solution is to move the deletion routine into the user clients instead. All the server has to do is track a new variable storing the number of days for trash retention, which the user would set to their preference. When a client app connects to the Drive, it would retrieve the stored value and then perform the deletion routine. To minimise server traffic, clients should only do the check once every 24 hours.

   For browser clients, the user would have to click into the Trash folder and click on a specific button, which would manually initiate the deletion process. I'm sure some client-side JavaScript could easily do this securely.

10. Speed up downloads from Proton Drive using shared links

    I've shared a folder that was about 337 MB using a share link. The downloads are abysmally slow at 47.83 KB/s to 185.54 KB/s. Then the download fails at less than a third of the way through.

    I'm on a paid plan. Replicated with the person whom I shared the folder. Both of us can't download it.

    Both of us are on different high bandwidth fiber internet plans and have no issues with other content.

12. API Checksum

    I keep most of my personal/project files in a folder structure that 'lives' in the cloud, but has a full offline mirror on my main devices (desktop and laptop). From my point of view this is an essential quality of life thing, and I have no idea how other people survive without doing this.

    The problem I have now is that I'm on linux, automating my mirroring with rclone. Rclone is great, but if a file gets corrupted during the sync process, it can't tell, which is A PROBLEM because over time with repeated syncs, corrupted files can potentially end up overwriting good files.

    Normally this problem can be solved by running checksums to verify integrity. A script can make sure that everything matches up correctly, and can automatically repair things instead of propagating destruction upon all my files. Unfortunately, it seems that Proton Drive hasn't exposed a system for this yet, so there is no reasonable way for me to do these integrity checks that are a key part of any healthy synchronization framework.

    The number one thing a file system should not do is destroy its files. Checksums are kind of 'the way' we make sure we don't explode things. This is really quite an essential feature.

    Edit: IMPORTANT: It seems I should mention that checksums can also MASSIVELY reduce the overhead traffic on your servers. They allow a sync engine to see if a file is the same, and its metadata just changed for some reason, so then the sync engine doesn't have to re-download the thing it already has. The users want this to speed up syncs on their end, and you guys should want this to get better performance for less server load on your end.

13. Support hard links in Drive for file access from multiple locations

    Similar to the concept of hard links on file systems (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hard_link) it would be useful to have files that can be accessed from multiple locations in Drive that all point to the same underlying storage. This makes it economical to organize information hierarchically where a file might be conveniently accessed from multiple locations.

14. PIN/Password (instead of a long password) in Proton Drive Windows apps (like the Proton Pass app)

    The PIN feature in the Proton Drive app is great for shared devices or work use, so no one else can access my Proton Drive app.

15. Add light theme for Proton Drive desktop app

    The Proton Drive desktop app currently only supports a dark theme. Other Proton apps (Mail, Calendar, Drive web) already allow theme selection, so it would be great to have the same here.

    I realize dark themes are more trendy, but for me they have a negative effect - I feel more tired and even sleepy when using them. In bright rooms the reflections also make it harder on the eyes. A light theme helps me stay more productive and matches the rest of my system.

19. Foto Sync

    Ich habe ein iOS Gerät und die Fotosynchronisation eingeschaltet. Nun werden einige Fotos doppelt in der Proton Mediathek angezeigt, da es bei einem bearbeiteten Bild das original und das neue Bild speichert, auch wenn auf dem IPhone nur das bearbeitete Exemplar vorhanden ist.

    Zusätzlich wäre es super es würde auch gelöste Fotos synchronisieren.

20. Keep the direction of photo viewing after deletion

    When viewing photos in one direction, delete a photo, continue in the same direction (as in the Gallery on a Samsung phone).
