How can we improve Proton?

  1. A all-in-one program on PC, maybe on mobile device…

    Hello,

    When reinstalling my computer, I needed to reinstall every app drive, bridge, vpn… and each time I had to do the full logging process.

    I was wonderingif it was possible to develop one Proton software with all the feature inside.

    Maybe the same also in mobile device app …

  2. Inactivity options, sign-out/lock

    The new desktop client does not have "Keep me signed in" as an option because that is its default and it can't be altered.

    This is not documented for the new desktop client which can lead to people wasting time trying to sort out what is happening.

    What does this do:
    If you don't sign out but simply close the app window next time the protonmail app starts you are not challenged for a password. This still occurs if you reboot the laptop/pc/virtual machine.

  3. Allow me to set auto-delete trash to X number days/months/years

    I like the auto-delete feature for the trash, but I would like to keep things in my trash for longer then 30 days.

    Please provide more options or allow me to set a custom time period for auto-delete.

  4. 2FA by hardware key only

    Being able to add physical Fido token is great but I would like that the requirement for TOTP to be removed.

    TOTO is quite often software based and software = surface of attack. Physical token allow air gap and are very secure and I don’t need TOTP personally, it makes my account vulnerable.

    Also just like Apple, a minimum of 2 physical tokens should be enforced since having a single token is putting you at risk of you loose it. 2 or more should be the rule of thumb.

  5. FIDO NFC for MFA

    Hello. I recently was adding 2 FIDO keys to my account and I noticed that I needed to have the authenticator app checked on has well. An issue comes into play when I use proton pass as my totp.

    If I get logged out of my account on my phone (iPhone), I don't have an option to use NFC with the FIDO key as my MFA. Can this function be added?

  8. Make Archive a top-level action after reading a message

    My normal action after reading an email is to archive it. Yet the archive action is generally hidden under a menu rather than being at the top level after reading a message.

    On web, Archive is contained within a meatball menu at the top of the message. So after reading, it takes 3 actions to archive it: 1) scroll to the top, 2) open the meatball menu, 3) archive it.

    Hello,
    It would be very nice to have a new App for the mindmapping, like Gitmind or other which are already available. I don't know how many people would be interested in such functionality, but I would appreciate it for project following or like an organizer (couple to the protoncalendar and of course protondrive)

    A service to store metrics such as IoT, health, etc.
    Health to replace Apple Health and offer interoperability with other applications such as meal trackers for calories, sports, sleep, etc.
    IoT to extend, for example, the storage that we can do on Home Assistant, and bring together all our important metrics in one place in a secure and interoperable way.

    With the recent updated inactive account policy implemented (https://proton.me/support/inactive-accounts), I'd like to suggest the idea for Proton accounts to have an inactivity protection mechanism.

    What is an Inactivity Protection Mechanism?

    An inactivity protection mechanism is a system that automatically triggers a predetermined action when a user fails to engage with their email account within a specified timeframe. This feature would ensure that if a user becomes unavailable or incapacitated, their email account can be secured and protected from unauthorized access.

  17. Show Word Count

    ProtonMail is often used for Email Counselling where there is a need to stick to a word limit.

    Myself and many of my counselling colleagues would find it very useful to have a word counter tool on draft emails to avoid pasting confidential words elsewhere to check the word limit.

    Ideally this feature would work like microsoft word whereby the word counter automatically updates as you wirte.

    To stay ahead in this field and avoid us moving to other email services please consider adding this feature.

  20. Proton On-Site Forums to Replace the Uservoice.Com Mess + Soc. Media

    Not everyone uses social media. And uservoice.com is an ugly, over-complicated, clinical mess. It would be infinitely better to have a proper set of moderated forums on-site at Proton, inc. help forums where users and support staff could chip in. Social media could act as an adjunct to this, but the real focus should be in forums. Even the biggest Linux distros e.g. have their own forums, and Proton is still much smaller than they are.
