More advanced filter functionaility & testing
Hi,
I spent a bit of time searching through the existing ideas and feedback and it seems like quite a few users have the same desire I do.
I am a new user to Proton Mail and Proton Services in general and I pleased to say I've really enjoyed my experience thus far. I appreciate the tons of work that must have went into making security tools user friendly (who knew PGP could have ever hit mainstream?).
I say this next part with full appreciation of the work done thus far: it would also be great if Proton Mail could match the filtering functionality and ease of use as other email providers.
I appreciate the ability to define filters, especially the support for Sieve which I didn't realize I wanted, but it would nice to have more user friendly filtering functionality.
For example,
- Outlook.com lets you filter all except the most current (or customer number) of email that matches a filter
- Outlook.com has a "sweep" feature that lets you quickly move all emails from a sender into a folder without creating a filter
While I'm not necessary asking for an implementation these features 1:1 in Proton Mail, it seems like there is an opportunity to make the current filter experience a lot better with better integration with Sieve. All of the features mentioned in the example seems like they could be programmed in Sieve.
Additionally, often time when defining filters, I want to test them out, but the long load times after clicking the "Apply to existing" mail button makes this a cumbersome process. Could there be an easier and quicker way of testing changes to filters? For example,
- only running on one folder (for example inbox)
- generating a list of mail that will be affected before running the filter
It would be nice to have a progress bar so I know if a current "Apply to existing" is currently running and how long it would be before it finishes. I often times have multiple filters I'm updating at once and if I click the "Apply to existing" button errors out and tells me it can't run until the current "Apply to existing" finishes. Could we batch "Apply to existing" jobs?
Also, many times after defining filters, a new email comes in which I want to add to an existing filter I created. I currently go through the process of copying the email, click filters, clicking through the pop-up to add the email, and then clicking "Apply to existing" button. Its is a common use case I have and it seems like other uses do as well judging by the votes on "Dynamic filter creation" feature suggestion. I would love if this could be made into a simpler, quicker, "one-click" action.
