How can we improve Proton Mail?

You've used all your votes and won't be able to post a new idea, but you can still search and comment on existing ideas.

There are two ways to get more votes:

  • When an admin closes an idea you've voted on, you'll get your votes back from that idea.
  • You can remove your votes from an open idea you support.

  1. Dynamic filter creation

    It would be extremely convenient to be able to automatically add an email address to an existing filter as follows:

    1. User has some folders setup already
    2. User drags a new email from friend@somewhere.com into folder "friends"
    3. Small dialog pops up to ask if you would like to add this email address to the filter(s) that send to the "friends" folder.

    To make this simpler, you could have a default filter per folder, and this dialog would simply add the dragged email's address to that filter. It would then be simpler to check if this email is already part of the…

  2. Sorting by date, sender, subject, subject A to Z or Z to A

    Every other email I've used allows sorting by date, sender, subject. A to Z or Z to A (not the same as filtering by key word)

    Hello, Allow us to right click on an email address either within the email listing or an individual email and be able to run a search for all matching emails based on the email address.

  4. Read receipt / confirmation

    Would It is possible to know if the recipient open or read the mail? as https://www.mailbutler.io/en/ or https://mailtrack.io/en/

  6. SMTP out to allow for support of mail forwarding services

    I've used a mail forwarding service since 1996. It gives me the luxury of switching the underlying mail provider while maintaining a static email address. I would like to be able to send email using this (pobox.com) service's SMTP server so all mail is sent using the forwarding email address. This is a capability that exists across most other web mail clients. The combination of a strong privacy-oriented forwarding service like pobox.com and the secure mail capability of ProtonMail would be a perfect match.

  8. Proton Mail MacOS app

    For MacOS, for more protection, we should get a new MacOS app for ProtonMail. This is a more simple way of using ProtonMail instead of visiting the website or creating new encryption methods for existing mail apps (such as apple mail).

    could you PLEASE offer a choice of BIGGER fonts for our messages, instead of the microscopic font you offer. do you pay by the font size

  11. Support for Spark Email Client

    It would be great to get support for Spark. If you're unfamiliar with Spark by Readdle, you can check it out here: https://sparkmailapp.com/

    I have 10+ email accounts that I manage with Spark. It supports every single type of mail service there is, but because of ProtonMail's security and encryption, they are currently not compatible. Gmail, Exchange, iCloud, everything but ProtonMail. Would really like to get that working.

    I get a very frequent stream of spam with a specific word in the body (Sppcity), but there is no way to create a spam filter for text in the body.

    Attachments are not always worth keeping, so please add ability to delete selected attachments as an alternative to simply downloading them.

  14. BUTTON FOR DOWNLOADING MULTIPLE ATTACHMENTS

    I would like to totally recommend adding one button for downloading multiple attachments. I'm reciving emails with plenty of photos and I cannot download them at once

  15. Proton Mail for Apple Watch

    Hey all,

    Any chance of seeing the iOS app extended to the Apple Watch in the near future? Now that the watch has cellular capability and really enables phone-free activity, it would be great to be able to check my ProtonMail inbox from the watch.

  16. Permanently Delete Option For Filters (Not Sending To Trash)

    When creating a filter, it would be greatly appreciated if there was an option to permanently delete the mail without sending to trash. There are cases where you don't want to be tempted at a later date to read the email by going to the trash. For example, let's say you do not want to be contacted by somebody and move on with your life, but they keep email you. You create a filter to move to trash (great) but in the back of your mind, you know that their emails are the trash folder, so you may be tempted…

  17. Mail filters for app

    I have ProtonMail Plus and use the Android app. Please add Filters to the settings menu for the phone apps so mail filters can be added, edited, deleted or turned on/off using the phone app. I rarely have a need to log into the ProtonMail site and it is annoying having to login just to create a mail filter.

    Search is slow
    Deleting multiple (15+) emails is slow
    Emptying the trash is slow

    This service is so slow that I'd rather just let the NSA read my email

  20. Improve addressing with extension character; allow hyphen (-); use correct sender address.

    1. Add the use of a hyphen (-) as the extension character, in addition to plus (+). Reasoning is below.

    2. When a message arrives for example-bob@protonmail.com, replies sent by the recipient should automatically show example-bob@protonmail.com as both the header sender and the envelope sender. The reason should be obvious.

    Why hyphen (-) in addition to plus (+). The use of plus (+) tells people that you are using an extension, while the use of hyphen (-) makes the address look like an ordinary address.

    Many buggy websites reject email addresses that contain a plus.
