1. Proton Mail Lite Plan - $10/year

   Many users, like myself, don’t require the full Mail Plus subscription but still want a reliable, privacy focused email experience. For casual users who primarily receive emails, a Lite Plan could be the perfect fit.

   Including an additional pm.me address or at least access to Proton Bridge would add significant value. A simple pricing model, such as $1/month or $10/year, would make this plan accessible to a wide range of users, encouraging more people to adopt Proton Mail while keeping it affordable.

2. Passwordless login using hardware key / passkey only

   Enable the user to use a FIDO2 hardware key or an iOS or Android biometric passkey as the sole login method for users that desire it. It would be for all Proton services, in my case mail, drive and pass.

   I would like to eliminate using passwords altogether and solely rely on a passkey in my iOS Passwords app OR my Feitian FIDO2 hardware key with fingerprint sensor.

   Requiring multiple keys would be a way to help prevent users from locking themselves out.

   1password is currently in beta with passwordless login and google already supports it.

3. ideas to make Lumo+ worth it

   I think there are ways to make it worthwhile to fund permanent chats for free users. This is a major pain point because most people want their chat history to be permanent.

   My ideas:

   Personalize Lumo’s appearance. Some users form a bond with the AI they use, and Lumo is one of the few assistants that actually has a visual persona. Proton could turn this into a Lumo + feature, allowing users to change Lumo’s colour, add a collar, or dress it in outfits.

   Redo‑reply option. Not many users need this frequently, so it could be a premium‑only feature, or free users could receive 1–3 free redos per month.

   Conversation mode (voice‑to‑voice). While other AIs already offer it, it isn’t essential for Lumo, but adding it as a Lumo + perk would make the subscription more attractive.

   More interactive elements. Enable users to pet Lumo, play with it (e.g., a laser‑pointer mode), or otherwise interact with the avatar. Such playful interactions would differentiate Lumo and could justify an additional fee.

4. Setup for catch-all and wildcard aliases with SL & PP

   I would like to request support for Fastmail/Migadu-style catch-all aliases in Proton/SimpleLogin, where any email sent to *@*.example.com—including all subdomains of a custom domain—is automatically delivered to my main mailbox (e.g., example@example.com). This would allow users to receive emails sent to any subdomain without manually creating aliases, simplifying email management while keeping full control over a custom domain.

5. Allow adding payment methods for users with Apple subscriptions

   Issue:
   Users that have an active subscription through Apple's App Store cannot add payment method in Proton Mail settings. When they click on "Add credit / debit card" they are greeted with the "Manage your subscription on Apple App Store" popup.

   While I understand why it wouldn't make much sense to have a payment method on an account that has their subscription managed by a 3rd party, I've encountered an edge case that I think would be beneficial to the <1% of users like me.

   I've cancelled my Proton subscription through my Apple Account. Now, since the Proton mail settings don't allow me to add a payment method, I need to wait for my subscription to expire, then add a payment method to Proton, then pick a subscription.

   I just think this would be beneficial to implement, don't see any issues with adding a payment method since the user can be notified that the payment method is inactive or will not be used as long as they have a 3rd party controlled subscription. But any additional purchases or activations through Proton can still be completed with the added payment method.

6. Show the Proton account creation date in the settings

   To mark the 10 years anniversary of Proton, many look back at when their accounts were created. Showing a simple "Account created on ...." on the Dashboard or Account section of the settings would be nice to keep the date in mind. Also that helps knowing when anniversary storage drops will fall! :D

7. Recovery phrases shouldn't be instant access – A safer alternative: recovery phrase + delayed access

   First of all, I don’t see the real value of the current recovery phrase. If someone securely stores their master password and TOTP seed, those already provide full access to the account – just like a recovery phrase does. So what’s the actual benefit of having a separate recovery phrase in this setup?

   Sure, I understand that a recovery phrase that bypasses 2FA is more convenient, but from a security standpoint, it's essentially the same as handing over full access – there's no meaningful distinction.

   In practical terms, both a recovery phrase and a written-down master password + TOTP seed effectively reduce account security to single-factor access (1FA). Anyone in possession of either of those combinations can gain immediate access. That’s a significant security concern.

   In my opinion, the purpose of a recovery phrase should be rethought. Instead of granting immediate access, it could initiate a delayed recovery process – say, 24 hours, 48 hours, or even a week. During that time, the account owner could be notified and given the option to deny the recovery attempt.

   Basically, the security of 2FA is preserved by breaking it down into 1FA + a delayed access mechanism.

   This approach would strike a better balance between usability and security. Users still have a way to regain access if they lose credentials, but it adds a critical layer of protection against abuse.

   An added benefit is that it would make it safer to share the recovery phrase with a trusted person (e.g. in case of emergency or death), since they wouldn't be able to gain instant access.

8. Modular bundles for PLUS users

   Hi, I love your services! I'm currently using Proton Mail Plus and I'd like to suggest a "Modular Bundle" system.

   It would be amazing if we could pick and choose additional services (like Proton Pass) and add them to our existing Plus plan with a loyalty discount (e.g. 40%). Currently, the jump to the Unlimited plan is quite big if someone only needs two specific services.

   Allowing us to customize our plans would be a game-changer for the community!

9. Allow password reset without losing all data

   Allow users to configure if they want data to be encrypted in case of a password reset.

   My data is not highly confidential or interesing to others. For me the risk of losing everything after a password reset is much higher than being compromised.

   So it would be great to be able to turn off the invalidation of the encryption keys in the event of a password reset.

10. easier access to my account management

    I'm getting confused how difficult it is to access the management of my account, to see for instance my subscription plan.
    I have received an e-mail tell me my plan has been renewed and there is a link to go to a dashboard to be able to cancel or adjust my plan.
    Until here everything is fine but when I click on the link I'm redirected to a web page with all the apps and no where I can access my account...
    Tried a random app to see if I can access my account, selected calendar but it was the wrong app.
    I had to Proton mail, got to the settings of protonmail and then have access to my subscriptions..
    My best guess this is historical as the first entry point was protonmail original but would be nice to have the account management separated from a dedicated app, or at least accessible from any apps.

    Thanks for the great work and hope this improvement will happen some day.

11. OAuth flow for external applications to use to access Proton services

    Allow developers to implement their own apps integrated to the Proton enviroment and, through an auth flow, get the required permissions to use users accounts

    Examples of implementation
    Proton Drive SDK (Existing Proton Drive SDK implementation of authentication and app indentification is easily forjable and apps wth bad intentions will store user credentials)
    A future Proton Mail SDK (which would allow open email clients like Thunderbird to implement Proton Mail without the need of Proton Mail Bridge)
    Proton VPN SDK (An SDK where apps can tunnel requests via a Proton VPN server)
    Proton Docs & Calendar SDK (SDK to develop Proton Docs addons [available via the Proton Docs website] and apps that read Proton Docs data)

    Some implementation suggestions
    The user should be warned about every permission the app is asking
    The authorization URL should be very clear that gives access to your Proton account (such as "authorize.proton.me)"
    A form of 2FA should be asked before authorizing any app

    This is an important step for a free environment, where Proton apps and third party apps have a secure auth flow with proper and granular permission granting

    I have been a bit disappointed with Proton. It seemed to be perfect for me, and I thought the lowest paid subscription would cover all that I needed. I read carefully what was offered, but I soon discovered, one at a time, that I had to up the ante, so I ended up having to pay double what I had expected. That was reluctantly accepted, only for me to discover,which is not clearly stated as far as I can tell, that there is no app for Linux on Proton Drive. That is nearly a deal-breaker for me, and it seems a good many others have met the same disappointment.

14. App-based MFA

    I like the way that Discord, Steam, Github, Apple, etc do their logins, which is by a phone app that prompts you with a notification and you have to enter the code that it says on the computer. This would be a really convenient way to log into Proton rather than having to use your phone for 2FA. Some of the apps I mentioned also do a qr code thing to log in which is super convenient as well.

16. Allow a ProtonVPN Plus User to Simply Upgrade ONE of The Included (Free) ProtonPass, ProtonDrive, or ProtonMail but NOT ALL of them

    I bought ProtonVPN Plus for 24 months. It comes with Free, but Limited ProtonPass, ProtonDrive, and ProtonMail.

    I want to upgrade to ProtonPass Plus, but I don't have any use for ProtonDrive or ProtonMail. I have been heavily invested in other solutions for many years

    But I am told that my only option to get ProtonPass Plus is to upgrade ProtonVPN Plus to a much more expensive plan and get the upgraded ProtonDrive and ProtonMail as well which I do not need or want.

    But I see a different way. But DO I REALLY have no choice other than to create a completely new Proton Account just to get ProtonPass Plus without having to pay for things I do not want???

17. Suggestions for Billing and Payment Options

    Dear ProtonMail Team,

    I have two ideas that could make your service even more convenient for customers:
    1. It would be very helpful if the billing date could be adjusted directly in the user dashboard.
    2. Additionally, it would be desirable if personal accounts could also pay via direct debit, similar to what is currently available for business plans.

18. I want to add VPN to my Mail Plus account and take advantage of the end of summer sale

    The end of summer sale is tempting but I already have products from other providers so I don't need the whole Unlimited offering. Besides which, after a year the price would escalate and I couldn't justify the expense. I want to add VPN to my existing Mail Plus account, preferably via the end of summer discount, but I can't find a way to do this. Why can't I have Mail Plus plus VPN? (I previously posted this on Reddit but I'm unable to view Proton's response for some reason)

19. Auditing/logs: Generate a log entry or increment counter for any sent or received emails.

    This would be a powerful tool to monitor for covertly diverted or transmitted emails. The log entry would not have to include any information about the email, just that an email was sent or received. It can be left up to the user to correlate it with their messages.
