How can we improve Proton Drive?

  2. File Viewer and Media Player

    I think you should have a file viewer or player for files that are linked to/in your Proton Drive, much like Google Drive does -- not just downloads of such files.

  3. Be able to log in with more than one account at the same time in Proton Drive.

    I mean that the program allows you to do that in at least 2 accounts (ideally in more accounts) But to start with 2 would be fine. The fact of being able to work, for example: with the files from your home account and your work account at the same time.   4. Proton Drive VAULT / ARCHIVE area that is cloud only and excluded from all app sync operations.

    It would be desirable that a part of your Proton Drive that should only be in the cloud and not visible to the app.

    Currently the Windows app syncs everything:
    * Everything in the directories that you select is uploaded
    * Everything in the "My Files" can be accessed from desktop by cloud stubs that the app creates.

    It would desirable to be able to select what you want from Proton Drive storage to be visible to your Win desktop. This could be done several ways:

  5. Save to external drive

    Saving to external drive.

    I have a mac mini with 256GB on it. After installing all the apps and documents that I use, more than half of it is used. Not to mention the caches, temp, backup files, etc.

    I use Box and other online storage and they have options to where to store their files so I use an external drive to store my files synced with the online storage apps that I used.

    I would love to see Proton Drive to have the option to store the files.

  6. Map Viewer for Geo / Location Data in files

    This is similar but more focused than the idea here: https://protonmail.uservoice.com/forums/945460-general-ideas/suggestions/45229390-proton-maps

    This is more about a 'viewer' of files on Proton Drive to open a map UI of items within Drive that have a geolocation. Creating layers/adding geometry (like a google mymaps) is not part of this idea but could be part of roadmap.

    1. View geotagged photos from an album in a map view; or to add/change location of photo (via pan/zoom from the photo view)

    2. Open geo-files in a map view, that is kml, gps tracks, sheet with lat/long, shapefile, geojson... open standards.

    Again, the focus of this idea…

  9. Multiple passwords for share links

    I'd love to see the ability to add more than one password for a share link that you can individually control and remove. This would add an extra level of security when sharing with multiple people and allow you to better control your opsec. Say one person shares the password without permission, you can effectively kick them off the link by just deleting that one password while still allowing others to access with their own password that you gave them.

  10. View only permissions for share link (no download option)

    I would love to see a feature in share link settings that would block/remove the download option. Useful in cases where you want people to be able to preview photos for example, but not be able to easily download them. This wouldn't stop tech-savvy users but would provide some friction against the average user downloading things you may not want them to.

  11. Streamlining File Management: Automatic Deletion of Recycle Bin Contents

    I suggest implementing an automatic deletion feature for the recycle bin (or trash folder) contents, where deleted files are permanently removed after a specified time period. This would eliminate the need for manual emptying of the trash folder, adding a convenient touch to file management. While not a critical issue, this enhancement could significantly improve user experience.

  12. Collaborative folders

    File/folder sharing link is inconvenient.
    I manage an organization (for family members) and file/folder sharing within org members accessible by everyone's respective account credentials (including pointers in everyone's ProtonDrive views) is essential. Link+Password sent by email is not a good solution for this very practically relevant use case for organizations.

  13. Use QR code to share files/folders

    QR codes for sharing Proton Drive files/folder URLs. It would make sharing links from a desktop to phone MUCH easier. Not to mention safer. I'm using an online QR code generator. God only knows what they are doing with that data.

  14. 2FA protection for certain files and folders

    Drive should have something like the "Personal Vault" from OneDrive.

    Everything in the Proton Drive is available all the time everywhere. As some files are extremely critical, but dont need to be looked at or changed all the time from everywhere, this is a convenient weakness.

    Example: I don't want my Bitcoin recovery phrase on the android app to be be "protected" with a fingerprint, and on the unlocked PC not protected at all.

  15. Containers with own password and 2fa

    Allow the creation of separate proton drive containers where you can setup individual security (passwords and 2fa) for each container. So when you go to proton drive not all containers are always mounted. This has the advantage that if your computer is breached or infected not all your drive containers and files within are directly accessible.

  16. Pause backup photos

    Pause backup photos on Android.
    It is sometimes necessary to delete some photos before backing them up.

    Deleting backed up photos is much slower than deleting photos in the phone gallery, and when automatic backup is enabled, you have to delete photos both in the phone gallery and on Proton Drive.

    Manually turning backups off and on takes a long time because it's deeper in the settings, someone needs to specify yet another folder for backups, and most importantly, when backups are turned on, all the photos on the phone are synced if they're already backed up.

  17. View breakdown of storage

    It would be great if we could see how big folders are in Drive, as well as a nice view of what's taking up all our space. Much like the program WinDirStat.

  19. Offline access in Linux Proton Desktop app

    I was very pleased to see the release of the Proton desktop app for Linux. This feature may be coming along with the full release, but it would be excellent to have offline access to my mail and calendar through the app.

  20. limit number of link accesses or file downloads

    Introduce feature whereby a user can only download file once or allow a link to only be used once so file can be listing on online marketplaces like ebay or trademe - so the link expires after download. Perhaps even a feature where you can assign multiple links on the same file that can be downloaded once only by each user - that is a feature I would upgrade to pro for
