Besides having custom domain email, this was one of the reasons I upgraded my subscription

Unlike the e.g. the Mail Client which would be neat as flatpak, for Drive it might not be suitable to package as flatpak if we want proper system-integration and sync-features (which are the aspects most critically needed)

I know Linux support can be tricky as there are so many different distros and package managers but since I use Linux as my daily driver for work this is pretty essential for me. Basically this an the lack of a full suite (docs, sheets, slides) is the main thing preventing me from cancelling my Google Workspaces subscription and moving to Proton full time. Having a flatpak would be great.

Like we got NOTHING, no app, no SDK, no documented API.

Proton you know just having a documented API would’ve helped making at least a temporary solution, or imo it will make a better solution as communities can adapt it to their needs on any distro on anything.

A linux client is an obvious fit for Proton’s open-source ethos. Many drive competitors already support Linux. The missing linux client is a deal breaker for many people. Flatpak/AppImage with an optional cli would be great.

I would highly appreciate a Linux Proton Drive Client. The rsync option is tricky to configure.

I've been with Proton for nearly a year now, and as much as I do use Drive via the web interface, it is a pain to manually upload my files in order to back them up. I like the idea that was presented about integrating Drive into the Mail/Calendar app. Whether integrated with another app, or as a stand-alone app, I'll take it. I would love to be able to have my files automatically synced. I'd committed to the Proton suite, as it meets most of my needs very well, but this particular issue is what is stopping me from upgrading to an unlimited plan. Once this is resolved, I'll happily upgrade.

Swapped over to a Fedora variant full time, missing native Proton Drive is a real pain. Please either provide a Linux client or allow third party client access.

Even just having the SDK, and thus an API guarantee would be plenty. At the very least 3rd party applications like rclone would be able to properly talk with Proton bug free.

Adding my user voice. I'm in the process of returning to Linux after a few years away by dual booting between Windows 11 and Fedora. I fully expect Fedora to phase into becoming primary. I'm committed to Proton's services and am delighted that the VPN worked like a charm, but am dismayed to discover the lack of drive syncing.

Glad to have a desktop client for mail , but I agree with OP that It's not financially worth it to spring for the full suite of apps without support for 'nix systems.

It's a must for me.

If you're going to block RClone, at least bring out your own proton drive for linux. You're literally screwing paid users over by ignoring an obvious gap in your offerings.

This is the second most voted on, and MOST commented on thread. How Docs got more votes, I'll never know. Either way, this should be your second priority.

Yes... there are a lot of Linux distributions but IMHO a good starting point to provide a Linux client and keep the community happy would be having a repository with a .deb and .rpm packages. No more no less

Since the inception of Proton I'm waiting for a Linux client.

Rclone implementation is helping but still imperfect.

pCloud did it and used AppImage, FUSE and some other open libraries.

I'm conscious such development will take time and is resource consuming. But holding it means it is also holding people from transitioning fully from Windows to Linux. Valve and Proton (the other one) did a lot of good to gaming industry and gaming on Linux. Now Proton (this one) needs to invest cash in it and do the switch.
