Linux Client
Proton Drive really needs the ability to sync desktop files automatically. This post focuses on a Linux client for Proton Drive.

Why is there time to launch new products such as Lumo, Wallet, Meet, Authenticator, and Pass, but no time to enhance existing products like Drive and Calendar?
I don't give a **** about AI, private and secure or not, and will not use it. The impact on the environment alone is plenty of reason to steer clear of AI.
I've been using Bitwarden for many years, and use it to share credentials with friends and family. Pass is of zero use to me.
There are so many authenticator apps out there, do we really need yet another one?
I equally don't care about crypto. It's niche, and far less useful than an app that lets me access my cloud files on Linux. Drive is pretty useless to me. I've been on Linux exclusively since 2001.
It's ridiculous that this request has been open since June 2022, and now, near the end of 2025, Linux users are still unable to use Drive in a meaningful manner. Access via a browser is NOT meaningful.
It's time for Proton to pay some serious attention to Linux users. Our money is as good as that of Windows and macOS users, yet we're being treated as if we don't matter.
As a long-term Visionary user, I've been sending you a significant chunk of money over the years, and in return I don't think it's too much to ask for a Linux client for Proton Drive, and I don't mean a half-baked one like Proton VPN for Linux, which is mediocre at best, and frequently causes issues, unlike the NordVPN and Mullvad clients for Linux.
Calendar and Contacts are equally useless on Linux, and the desktop in general, as there is no way of accessing them from apps like Kontact, Evolution or Thunderbird.
Calendar also lacks proper support for cross-timezone entries, making it pretty useless for travellers.
Without a Linux client for Drive, my Visionary plan doesn't exactly offer much value for money, with only Proton Mail being fully useful via the Bridge, and Proton VPN limping along with its cobbled together Python/GTK app (where's support for Qt/Plasma?).
As I've suggested in the past, why don't you team up with the dev of EteSync, a reliable E2EE solution to sync contacts, calendar, tasks between Android, iOS, Windows, macOS, and Linux. And as a bonus, it can even be self-hosted!
Come on Proton, you really can, and ought to, do better than this.

Can we please get a timeline on when this will be implemented. I have a Duo account, and it would be very helpful to be able to sync between my Linux Machines. I do not have any Windows or Mac machines!

With so many people ditching Windows after another arbitrarily forced e-waste producing upgrade this should be a priority. Proton is focused on privacy and security, the people whom are also focused on privacy and security use Linux. Please stop tethering yourselves to weaker links

It would be so important that a Linux client is also available for Proton Drive. Everything else already exists. 🙏

This has been around for a long time now. Come on guys, other cloud providers seem to be able to do this.

Almost 5k voted for this feature - looks like the demand is high, especially since we already have mail, pass and vpn clients.

Without a decent Linux Desktop client, Proton Drive is uninteresting. I will continue to use Google Drive and Cryptomator. As an alternative, I will take a closer look at pCloud.

My proton subscription expires this week. Without a Linux CLI client, I am not renewing.

The workaround I have to use despite paying nearly 100 pounds a year is ridiculous. I have a general purpose Windows Server at home, it makes the most sense for me, I unfortunately have to use a lot of Windows only tools - anyway... I mounted a drive from there on my Linux desktop that I use for backups, photos, videos etc and they sync to Proton Drive that way. It's great that I can do this, it makes Proton Drive usable, but it would be a whole lot more useful if I could sync files on my device... Even Google's services work, comical situation really. Most people using Linux do not have a Windows Server so for them, this service would be almost useless. Not having sync can end up being a laughable amount of pain. People want to use this service on their desktops, and their Linux servers. Sort it out.

Lack of this feature is the only reason I'm still on Tresor.It. As soon as I can have a Linux (.deb / Ubuntu) version that syncs automatically, I can finally transfer my data on Proton Drive. The web interface is not an acceptable option.

I'd love too see this too. Having no Linux client is the only thing that keeps me from starting a paid Proton subscription (and thereby migrating to Proton services in general). I'd do that as soon as there's a Linux client.

Desperately needed to auto sync for Linux. Also please make it possible to sync a KDE Plasma Vault to Proton Drive when the vault is unlocked.

Yeah, this is really needed...
I need my drive to have constant access to some of my Linux directories, which can be backed up easily.
It is disappointing to see that Proton is very supportive of privacy, but doesn't support Linux which is private by default.

Proton team, please, I see nothing happening for linux client for months at https://github.com/ProtonDriveApps/sdk, I know it is just sdk but still can you make some honest statement where we are with this? Everything is better than leaving us scream for most wanted feature that long.

I'm happy with my Proton suite, but am genuinely surprised to see that there's no Proton Drive for Linux client. Many Proton users (myself included) will be looking to move away from today's bloated commercial OS offerings, and the lack of a Proton for Linux client is a bit of a hurdle.
