Note that Proton CAN do right by Linux. It wasn't too long ago that suspending your laptop while using ProtonVPN on Linux was enough to disable Internet access until you did a full reboot. The newest ProtonVPN works flawlessly.

Until there is Linux sync to Drive I will be outsourcing everything but email and VPN to other providers and likely downgrading my account at my next renewal date.

I currently sync about 70 GB of photos and documents to pCloud ... which has recently been shown to have some significant vulnerabilities in their end-to-end encryption (in a paper by researchers at ETH, an eminent Swiss technical university).

I would love to take advantage of the 500 GB of Proton Drive storage I'm already paying for. But keeping all my files in sync manually is a non-starter -- I know I can't remember to do so without fail. I need automated sync on Linux. But from what I can read from the Proton tea leaves, such a project is not a priority -- or even truly on the roadmap. (Someone from Proton please tell me I'm wrong!)

I was a very early adopter and backer of Proton offerings. I have access to all Proton programs and services. But their spotty support for Linux (and other oddities) means I only use Proton mail and VPN. For everything else I use other providers. I'd love to use Proton for everything -- calendar, passwords, the lot. But instead I'm left scratching my head and searching for alternate providers for *everything*. Sigh.

UPDATE: I just watched the AMA with Andy Yen, Proton CEO: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=Dp7ght2fMR4

Between 39 and 46 minutes he talks about Linux support for Drive. It's complicated due to the diversity of Linux file systems, kernels, and distros in general. But he predicts a simple sync client for, say, a common distro like Ubuntu in a year or two. So at least the idea is out there.

Yen himself -- and the whole Proton infrastructure backend -- runs Linux, so there is at least some motivation internally for a Linux Drive sync client.

I love my .ch domain name. I don't live in Switzerland, but a bunch of my ancestors did. Roots! (And a country-level domain that isn't controlled by one of the Five Eyes is a bonus.)

ProtonMail has made Gmail unnecessary for me.
ProtonMail Contacts are now full-featured enough to replace Google Contacts.

I have weaned myself from Gmail and Google contacts as a result.

    Still desperately needed: ProtonMail Calendar.

When ProtonMail Calendar comes online, I will cancel my Gmail account entirely.

Still on my wish-list: ProtonMail Tasks, ProtonMail Notes. But there are third-party solutions to those problems that work well enough for now. Calendaring should be the focus going forward.
